Chapter 418: Chapter 419: Inferno on Earth
The moment Odin threw Gungnir to its sudden disappearance was but an instant.
Odin was astonished. Gungnir was not truly invincible, but based on his past experiences, its guaranteed hit effect would manifest as long as the target's magical power was inferior to his own.
How could a mere wizard possess magical power to rival that of a deity?
Before he could ponder further, Murphy's attack had already arrived, with several beams of light shining down. With his strongest offensive means gone, Odin found himself unable to counter those satellites and was forced to dodge as lightning.
While Murphy directed the attack on Odin, he also harbored some doubts. The figure that had appeared looked like himself, and the dense fog around it was eerily similar to the Spirit Realm's mist he had encountered.
Could this be another time loop? Tampering with time was no trivial matter. "Time regression" consumed an immense amount of magical power. Taking the Time Magic Box he possessed as an example, sending himself back ten hours was its limit.
Although the presence of a time converter meant that time magic would consume the magical power of the entire magic network node, not the wizard's own, repeating time regression within the same period would be like continuously overloading the magic network. If it exceeded its bearing capacity, paralyzing the magic network entirely was a possibility.
Therefore, unless absolutely necessary, he would not resort to time regression to solve problems. Yet, today, he knew he would regress more than three times, indicating the future situation could be dire.
Aside from this, another point concerned him.
When repairing the broken time converter, the power he used seemed not merely for "repair" but was akin to a form of time regression, hence the significant consumption of magical power.
This might be due to the time converter's uniqueness. Its principle remained unclear to them, but they understood it was a magical device connected to the entire magic network. Perhaps because of its inherent 'time' attribute, repairing it inevitably involved time manipulation.
But if it required time regression for repairs, did that mean he had also harnessed the power of time? However, when Murphy attempted to use time stop and acceleration, neither had any effect. He shook his head, concluding he might be overthinking.
As he pondered, he continued to command the satellites to attack Odin. Like Murphy, Odin possessed lightning abilities and moved at incredible speeds. Despite controlling four or five satellites for the assault, Murphy couldn't fully contain his opponent.
It occurred to him that if there were tens of thousands of Starlink satellites deployed, they would form a net in the sky, ensuring Odin faced attacks no matter where he fled.
While seeking an opportunity, Murphy also began clearing the monsters around Stonehenge. However, after several fire attacks, a giant wearing bear skin and wielding a huge club emerged from a forest, reshaped from the exploded flesh of numerous wild animals. He threw a huge cauldron into the air, which could block the fierce fire.
Murphy quickly matched his appearance with the database, identifying the figure as Dagda, the father of the gods in Celtic mythology.
The giant's arrival stalled Murphy's assault. More alarmingly, the spreading blood mist began to affect animals and insects. Unlike initially rushing towards Stonehenge, they dispersed in all directions, attacking any living beings they encountered and infecting them to become like themselves, seemingly aiming to expand their numbers before conducting a sacrifice.
...
Meanwhile, on the west coast of the Atlantic, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, what was once a sunny coastline was now gathering storms. In moments, a low-pressure system formed over the sea and quickly grew into a category 12 or 13 hurricane.
The violent winds drove the tides, creating waves several meters high that surged towards the coast.
The horrifying tsunami submerged many lower-lying urban areas. When the tide receded, humans were horrified to find large monsters crawling out of the mud—octopuses tall enough to walk on land with their tentacles, crabs with human faces and the size of cars, and even swordfish with human legs.
Upon their appearance, they began a massacre throughout the city. The crabs could sever an adult human in half with their pincers, the octopus's arms could twist a person into a pretzel, and the shrimps jumped onto people's heads, chewing and swallowing their entire heads...
It was as if a scene from a horror comic had come to life, terrifying ordinary people to the point where resistance was inconceivable. In no time, this world-class tourist city, the pearl of Brazil, became a hell on earth.
...
Murphy and Lucas immediately noticed the situation in Rio through satellites, realizing this was a contingency left by the once-arrived god Tyr, though they hadn't expected it to escalate to such a scale.
Rio, far in Brazil and outside Murphy's sphere of influence, couldn't be protected by a magical barrier like London. Moreover, with a population exceeding five million, facing such a disaster, Murphy couldn't simply bomb or cleanse the area with fierce fire.
Clearly, this was a long-planned attack.
"Dispatch the Countermeasures Bureau!" Murphy decisively ordered Lucas, "Get in touch with the wizards in Brazil immediately and provide support!"
The sea monsters' killing spree was likely not without reason, possibly part of a blood sacrifice that must be stopped.
Looking towards the surroundings of London, Murphy frowned, realizing the battle here couldn't drag on.
Instructions were sent through the command system to several combat units. After repeated confirmations with higher-ups, several bombers took off from RAF Brize Norton and arrived over the target airspace in moments, commencing carpet bombing around Stonehenge.
Simultaneously, Murphy ceased the ray attacks from the magical satellites. Though powerful, the rays' narrow focus and Odin's swift speed meant the satellites couldn't keep up.
To capture him, an area attack was necessary.
Closing his eyes, Murphy manipulated several satellites to form an array over a designated 30-kilometer area, then extracted a vast amount of spiritual energy from the mind network to enhance the spell's strength before chanting, "Petrify everything!"
A massive wave descended, petrifying everything in its path. Birds fell from the sky, and even Odin stiffened, unable to escape as lightning.
However, it was only for an instant.
With the magical power available on the satellites, petrifying such a vast area was impossible. Murphy had simply exhausted the magic stones' power, emitting a solitary wave pulse.
The pulse was of immense magnitude and high level, but lasted only a moment.
Yet, that moment was enough.
Murphy appeared behind Odin in an instant, pushing him into a large glass container in an underground laboratory.
