Chapter 95: Chapter 95- Little Decline
"Wow, that move is insane!" said Bokuto, running his hand through his hair, impressed by Karasuno's back attack.
"Yeah, the agility of number ten at that height is impressive, but the talent of that setter is terrifying. He's just a first-year, and his tosses are so precise... what a monstrous duo Karasuno has found," observed Akaashi.
"Kuroo-san, do you have any idea how to stop that super-quick duo from the first year?" asked Yamamoto while Kuroo was still on the bench.
"Not sure yet... I need to play against them more to come up with a trick, but if they lost the qualifiers for nationals in their prefecture, Shiratorizawa definitely found a way, so I will too..." said Kuroo confidently, a mischievous smile on his face.
The game continued with both teams playing at the same level, but once again, Karasuno's super-quick attack threw the match off balance. Without Kuroo finding a solution in time, Karasuno won the set 25-21.
"THAT'S IT, WE BEAT ALL THE TEAMS, WE'VE COMPLETED THE FULL CIRCLE!" Tanaka celebrated loudly.
"Yeah, but I don't think this will last forever..." said Hinata with a smile on his face, his head tilted back and his arms resting behind him.
"Hinata is right... we're at a good level, but if teams figure out how to stop our main weapon, we'll lose our advantage and face difficulties," said Daichi as he led the team off the court.
"Hehe, listen to your captain. That invincible attack of yours won't last forever, so enjoy your dominance while it lasts..." said Kuroo as he did his defeat dive.
"HEY! Kenma-san! I'm two centimeters taller than him! Why can he do that super-quick and I can't!" said Lev, pouting.
"Because compared to him, you're as slow as a slug, and I don't have as much precision as that setter..." Kenma explained calmly.
"Darn it!" Lev complained, doing his own dive.
"Kageyama, you've got a silly smile on your face..." observed Sugawara, looking at Kageyama, who seemed happy with Kenma's praise.
The matches between the teams continued until nightfall, and as the games went on, the players started getting used to Hinata's super-quick. By the end of the matches, Kuroo was managing to touch the ball with some consistency and had completely stopped it twice. Washio from Fukurodani had also started touching the ball, though not as well as Kuroo, but he was improving compared to the other two teams. Chigaya, the blocker from Shinzen, had touched the ball once, while Ubugawa still hadn't figured out how to handle it.
"Shoyo, I'm afraid Karasuno's performance will drop significantly tomorrow. You guys had a big advantage over the teams, but now that we're learning how to stop your special attack... I think we'll be even..." analyzed Kenma while playing a video game and talking to Hinata and Inuoka.
"We know that very well, but there's nothing we can do. We'll just have to improve, and that's it..." said Hinata while playing his own game.
"Hmm... I wish Lev had your mindset... then he wouldn't be so bad..." said Kenma.
"That guy... he doesn't seem like he's from Japan," observed Hinata.
"Not really, he's half-Russian. When we went to play friendly matches at his school, he was still a bench player, so he didn't come with us. Even though he still only plays with reflexes and natural talent," said Kenma in his usual monotone.
"That guy! He's got everything going for him!" said Inuoka excitedly.
"Well, it's funny watching you guys push him to improve... I think it's time to take a shower!" said Hinata, leaving his game and heading straight to the bathroom. As he was about to enter, he ran into Lev, just like in canon.
"Ah, you're here! My rival!" said Lev excitedly.
"I feel like a lot of people have called me that..." Hinata whispered.
"As I said, my older teammates always make it clear that I'm worse than you, but that won't last long!" Lev taunted.
"I'll root for you!" said Hinata, patting Lev on the shoulder before going to take his own shower. After finishing, he returned to the room, played a bit more video games, and then went to sleep, waking up the next day.
"Alright, let's go again!" said Daichi after gathering the Karasuno players to get ready for another training session.
This time, the matches happened in a different order, but what Kenma and everyone predicted came true. Karasuno's performance, especially against Fukurodani, dropped drastically after they learned how to counter Karasuno's super-quick, leaving them with a performance similar to Nekoma's.
"Seems like without Hinata carrying you, you're not so scary, Ryunosuke!" taunted Yamamoto as he watched the Karasuno players preparing to board the bus to leave.
"Shut up and get ready. In two weeks when we come back, I'll make sure to end you and that horrible haircut of yours!" said Tanaka as he got on the bus.
"But we can't deny what he said. When they were all focused on stopping Hinata and Kageyama, we couldn't get past the blocks, especially from Fukurodani and Nekoma..." observed Asahi.
"I know! We didn't contribute enough, but it won't stay like this!" said Tanaka, his eyes burning with determination.
"That's the spirit, guys. Aside from Hinata, our attack wasn't that great, and our blocking was even worse. We have a lot to improve, but we can't lose our spirit. This is just a challenge we have to overcome to reach the next level! So let's train even harder!" declared Ukai as he boarded the bus along with Takeda, who took the wheel.
"YES!" everyone shouted in unison, agreeing with Ukai's words.
