Gurren Lagann - mecha lord

Chapter 9: Gunmen

Goro's voice was calm but firm as he laid out the plan. "Kamina, Simon, listen carefully. If my theory is right, the only way inside the Gunman is through its mouth. Kamina, I'll sneak attack that big Gunman and open up a path using Lagann to create an opening for you to jump into the cockpit and hijack it. While you're doing that, I'll distract the smaller one until you take full command of the Gunman. Once you've got it under control, you join me, and we take down that lackey together. Got it?"

Kamina's grin widened. "Hell yeah! That's what I'm talking about!" he said, his fist slamming into his palm.

Simon, on the other hand, looked more hesitant. "W-what about me? What should I do?" he asked, his voice shaking slightly.

"Simon, your job is to stay back and keep hidden. I'll handle Lagann while Kamina takes the big Gunman. If things go south, I'll call for you. Otherwise, stay out of sight and stay safe," Goro said firmly, making sure Simon understood.

Simon hesitated but nodded slowly. "O-okay, Goro. I'll stay out of the way."

"Good," Goro said with a reassuring nod. "Kamina, get ready. The moment I make the opening, it's all on you."

Kamina smirked confidently. "Don't worry, Goro. That Gunman is as good as mine!"

Goro positioned Lagann carefully, hiding it behind a rocky outcrop. The patrol Gunman and the larger, captain Gunman were close now, the captain's imposing frame dominating the scene. Goro's eyes narrowed as he tightened his grip on the controls.

"This is it," he muttered. "Simon, stay put. Kamina, on my mark... let's do this."

The drills on Lagann began spinning as Goro revved its engines, preparing to launch into action.

The Lagann jumped latched onto the massive Gunman like a tenacious insect, its drills biting into the outer plating. The beastman inside the captain Gunman barked in alarm, "What the hell? A mini Gunman?! Get off me!"

The larger Gunman thrashed wildly, trying to shake Lagann loose, but Goro's precise piloting kept it clamped firmly in place.

"You're not shaking us off that easily!" Goro shouted, his focus razor sharp. With Lagann's drills spinning, he pried open the massive mouth, revealing the cockpit.

"Now, Kamina!" Goro roared, his voice cutting through the chaos.

With a determined yell, Kamina leapt from Lagann, soaring toward the open cockpit. The beastman pilot inside turned in shock, its voice laced with confusion and fury. "Humans?! How dare you-"

Kamina didn't waste a second. He slammed into the beastman, fists flying as he grappled to gain control of the cockpit. "Get out of my seat!" Kamina bellowed, his fighting spirit igniting like a blaze.

The beastman snarled, swiping at Kamina with claws, but Kamina dodged and countered with a punch that sent the beastman reeling.

Outside, Lagann continued to hold the massive Gunman steady, Goro using its drills to fend off the smaller Gunman trying to intervene. "Hurry up, Kamina!" Goro called, sweat dripping down his brow as he maneuvered Lagann to block an incoming attack.

The smaller Gunman charged Lagann with all its might, ramming it with a thunderous impact that sent Lagann flying through the air. The sudden attack knocked Goro off balance, and Lagann crashed hard into a rocky wall, shaking the ground.

"Gahh!" Goro cried out as the impact jolted through him, his hands gripping the controls tightly. Sparks flew in the cockpit, and Lagann's systems momentarily flickered.

The beastman in the smaller Gunman sneered, "Humans thinking they can mess with us? You're done for!"

Lagann's drills spun weakly for a moment as Goro fought to regain control. "Damn it! This isn't over!" Goro growled through gritted teeth, his determination fueling him despite the pain. He quickly scanned Lagann's systems. While battered, Lagann was still operational.

"Kamina, you better get that thing moving fast, because I'm not letting these guys take me down!"

Inside the cockpit, Kamina managed to overpower the beastman, delivering a final blow that knocked it unconscious. With a triumphant grin, Kamina grabbed the controls.

Kamina clenched his fists in frustration. The controls wouldn't respond, no matter how hard he tried. Red warning lights flashed, blaring a message he couldn't ignore: Unauthorized User. The system wasn't recognizing him.

"Damn it!" Kamina growled, slamming his fist on the console. He felt powerless, an emotion he despised. Outside, he could see Lagann struggling against the smaller Gunman, Goro fighting valiantly but clearly overwhelmed.

In the corner of his eye, something caught Kamina's attention. "Wait... is that Simon?" Kamina squinted, his anger briefly giving way to surprise.

Simon, clutching the Core Drill in his trembling hands, was sprinting toward Lagann. His legs wobbled with every step, and tears streaked his face, but there was an unmistakable determination in his eyes. He wasn't running away; he was running toward the danger.

Kamina's chest tightened. "What the hell am I doing here, feeling sorry for myself?" he muttered, his frustration now directed inward. Even Simon was out there risking his life.

Kamina slammed the controls again, this time with all the fire and fury in his heart. "Don't screw with me! I'm not useless!" he roared, his voice echoing through the cockpit.

Suddenly, the red lights on the console flickered and shifted to green. The entire cockpit began to hum, a low rumble that Kamina felt deep in his chest. The controls responded, their resistance gone. Kamina's grin stretched wide as the realization hit him.

"That's more like it!" He grabbed the controls with both hands. "JUST WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?"

The massive Gunman roared to life, its movements now entirely under Kamina's command. With a sharp turn, Kamina charged the smaller Gunman attacking Lagann.

Outside, Goro was fending off a relentless assault, sweat pouring down his face. He barely registered the massive Gunman coming to life until it slammed into the smaller one, sending it sprawling.

Kamina's voice crackled over the comms. "Your knight in shining armor has arrived!"

Goro smirked, his exhaustion giving way to relief. "You're late, Kamina," he shot back

"Fashionably late!" Kamina replied with a laugh. "Now, let's finish this!"
