You Ruojin's eyes turned red, and she lowered her head. Luo Huian was going out of her way to protect her and provide her with justice; she couldn't ruin it by crying in front of Zhou Pan. However, how could Zhou Pan be willing to apologise to You Ruojin? In her eyes, she had already made enough compromises by coming here and apologising to Luo Huian.

"Don't go too far!" Zhou Pan snapped angrily. She said to Luo Huian, "First of all, I did nothing wrong by saying that this woman is someone who sold her body because she did it. Everyone knows what happened between her and that Chu mer. Even if that mer is gone, the truth remains the same!"

Madam Zhou was terrified when she saw Zhou Pan scolding Luo Huian and You Ruojin. Was she stupid? Did she not tell her that Luo Huian had many backers who were willing to stand up for her for the smallest thing? So why was Zhou Pan acting out of line!?

"Pan'er!" Madam Zhou cried out loud. She had never bothered with this niece of hers and treated her like her own daughter. But she never thought that her mindless spoiling would come to cause trouble for her like this.

Zhou Pan snapped out of her daze, but she was still unwilling to admit that she was in the wrong. With her eyes filled with tears, she lowered her head and refused to say another word.

Luo Huian shook her head and shrugged. "It seems like your niece doesn't understand that she was in the wrong, Madam Zhou."

"No, Miss Luo. This is not what it seems like—"

Madam Zhou tried to speak, but Luo Huian held her hand up and asked her to come some time later.

When Madam Zhou saw that Luo Huian was not willing to talk anymore, she sighed helplessly. She clearly wanted the situation to calm down, not escalate any further! But alas.

She turned and looked at Zhou Pan grumpily. It was just saying a few flattering words and leaving the matter behind them. Madam Zhou had told the same thing to her niece countless times, and yet she didn't even listen to a thing that she had said to her.

Annoyed, she turned on her feet and then walked out of the bakery.

Zhou Pan could see that her aunt was angry with her, but she didn't take it seriously. After all, she was her niece, and Luo Huian was an outsider. Her aunt would not find trouble with her for an outsider, would she?

Luo Huian watched them leave and scoffed. She knew what Zhou Pan was thinking, and from what Xiao Hei told her, this woman was destined to be kicked out of the company today. She was going to lose her job, which she was so proud of, and once she lost her job, the mer she was with would leave her as well.

And her aunt, on whom she was depending, would also not support her.

However, Luo Huian didn't have the time to care about such things. Because at that moment, she could hear the sound of sobbing, which made her turn around and look at You Ruojin, who was full-blown sobbing while sitting behind the counter of the dry pastries. Seeing her cry like this, Luo Huian was simply speechless.

When Luo Huian finished listening to You Ruojin's cries, she couldn't help but frown. She also felt annoyed with Zhou Pan for ruining her good deeds.

But this time around, she didn't say a word. She thought about it and decided to take things slow with You Ruojin. She said to her, "Ruojin, how about you go back to your old job?"

"What?" You Ruojin raised her head and looked up at Luo Huian, who was smiling down at her.

She said to her, "I can see that you are having a hard time dealing with the customers in the bakery, so how about I introduce you to the weapon-making department? You know the one that made Sister Qingling's spear and Dong Geming's weaponized car? Maybe you will do a good job there?"

Luo Huian wanted to keep You Ruojin close to her because she thought that it would help the woman better. But it seemed like the egg in her hands had not moved even an inch; in fact, if not for the fact that she could feel the spiritual energy of the beast inside, she would have thought that it had died under You Ruojin's care.

When You Ruojin heard her words, her eyes lit up, but it was quick to get extinguished when she thought it through clearly. She shook her head and said to Luo Huian, "I can't. You Ruojin was a dreamer, but she was not a daydreamer; she knew what she was worth and would never try to think above her station.

"You don't have to worry about it," said Luo Huian with a smile on her face. "You only need to think about how to work hard and prove that you are worth the effort that I am putting into you, and leave the rest to me."

That was what Luo Huian said. But as she sat in front of Wei Yucheng, she realised that it was not as simple as she thought it was. With her hands plastered on the table, she raised her head and looked at Wei Yucheng with a hint of annoyance. She said to him, "But why? I told you that she is skilled, and she can definitely make some changes in the weapon department as long as she awakens. Do you really have to be like this?"

Wei Yucheng raised his head and looked at Luo Huian. His lips were curled in a soft smile as he spoke to Luo Huian in a calm voice, "It is not that I want to refuse your request, but it's nearly impossible. First of all, Miss You has no qualifications that would allow her to join the department."

"But—"

"I understand that you are optimistic towards her due to your skills, but the truth is that these skills that you speak of are yet to appear. No one would believe something that is yet to happen. People only believe what they see, Miss Luo."

When Luo Huian heard his response, all the arguments that she had prepared went down the drain because she knew that the mer was right; no one would believe something that was going to happen in the near future, and she didn't even know what kind of trick would awaken You Ruojin's skills. She was still searching for something, which made the entire thing even more difficult.

Wei Yucheng looked at Luo Huian, who was frowning so hard that she looked like she was about to kill some mosquitoes with her furrowing brows. He closed the file in front of him and then leaned forward. "But if you want, then I can make a spot for her in the weapon department. I did a favour for the head of that department a few years back, and she owes me a little. If I spoke to her, then she would definitely help you out."

His words were nothing less than a sonorous musical tune, but Luo Huian narrowed her eyes and questioned, "What do you want?"

She knew the mer, and she knew him very well. There was no way he was going to just offer her something so good. There had to be something in between.

Wei Yucheng smiled, his lips curled up, and he said to Luo Huian softly, "A kiss."

An awkward silence stretched all over the room. For two whole minutes, Luo Huian looked at the mer as if he was speaking another language, but when she saw that the mer was indeed serious, she said to him, "Just what did you say?"

This was not her asking him to repeat; this was her asking him to change his demand when he still had time.
