GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

Chapter 2128: Blood Network.

Any one of them could follow the connection to the blood vessel. They decided to let Legion-4 be the one since he was one of the clones in control of the pathway of killing.

Legion-4 followed that connection until a dark world appeared in front of him. The dark world contained a large red web. The web was made of a spherical core at the center and a red ring rotating around it.

The red ring had many strings connected to it. These strings led to unknown places in the dark world. One of the strings was connected to Legion-4's mind.

He concentrated on something in his mind and sent it through the string connecting him to the core. A few seconds later, he received a reply from the captain.

She said, "It seems you can multitask easily."

He was confused by what she said, so he asked through the network, "What do you mean?"

She replied, "Usually, anyone that uses the network loses control of their body. They have to close their eyes and concentrate on controlling the blood vessel. But you can control the blood vessel and your body simultaneously."

Legion-6, who was now in control of the body, said to Captain Sheckel in the real world, "Oh. I guess I'm special."

She nodded in agreement. "Indeed you are. You have a strong and versatile consciousness. I believe it might be because of what you survived."

He snorted and said, "What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, huh?"

She said, "Exactly."

He asked her, "Is that supposed to make me feel better about the death of everyone I knew and the loss of my memory?"

She shook her head. "No, it shouldn't make you feel better. But you have to give other things a chance to make you feel better. You can't let revenge be the focus of your life. It will push you towards damnation."

"In fact, it is already pushing you towards damnation. One of its impacts is how your pursuit of revenge made you begin training as soon as you completed your assimilation. Another impact is how you came to report for duty instead of spending at least one month at home to relax, like was suggested to you.*

She sighed and said, "You have a sturdy mind, which is why you can't feel the effects of those things yet. But your mind can only take you so far. You need to relax. You need to actually live instead of just being alive. You need to find meaning in life, or you won't have life anymore."

He said with determination, "I'm fine. I'll be much better when I find and end whoever it is that destroyed all that I had."

She shook her head in pity. But she didn't try to convince him anymore.

She said, "So be it. Take it as if I said nothing."

"In the spirit of dedication to hard work, I won't slack off anymore. Let me complete the tutorial for the blood network."

"As I said earlier, the core of the network is the node, and I am the node. The outer ring is everyone else. If you want to send information, you can either send it to me or everyone else."

"By sending your message to the outer ring, it will be broadcast to everyone else. The blood vessel will twitch and inform you when there is a message for you."

"That is all for the tutorial. Do you have any questions?"

He had a lot of questions, such as the safety of having a part of the god of killing in his body, and proper safety measures needed to be put in place to guarantee his life.

He also wanted to know what it costs to use the blood network to send and receive messages. Her reply was that the cost of spiritual energy was negligible. The main cost was in mental energy.

Apparently, using the blood network too much can cause mental fatigue. That's a bad thing for godclads because when the mind is weak, the divine flesh in the body can use this opportunity to take over the body. This will lead to mutation and death.

Apart from the risk of mutation, there wasn't much danger to using the corpse of a god as a communication medium between people. He found that to be unbelievable after he sensed the intent and will from the heart in the possession of the captain.

To address his concerns, she said, "Sure, the blood network can be stubborn sometimes, but that's only an instinctive resistance. It is similar to air resistance to an object moving at a fast speed. It is a natural phenomenon. There is nothing malicious about it."

He could only say, "If you say so, boss."

She smiled and said, "I say so. Now let's get you started on your post since you want to work so hard so much."

She stood up and said, "Follow me. I'll take you on a short tour. Then I'll drop you at the prison."

She took him around the first underground floor. This floor contained the infirmary, a small dormitory, the library, the recreation room, and many other utility rooms.

The first underground floor was managed by the captain. She had the utmost authority in determining what went on on this floor.

One of the things she had control of was the access and use of the underground tunnels that connect the first floor to the various houses on the street and beyond it.

The underground tunnels led to locked rooms on the first underground floor. These rooms looked like normal rooms containing the library and other things. From his perspective, he couldn't tell which room led to a tunnel and which led to the infirmary.

This wasn't done on purpose. According to the captain, the tunnels were secured like this to prevent unauthorized people from accessing the underground base through the tunnels.

There were doors on the other side of the tunnels too. This formed double protection for the tunnels.
