GREED: ALL FOR WHAT?

The change was so thorough that there was no blood or signs of the injury on her head in just one second. If they hadn't seen everything happen, they wouldn't have believed that she had a heart in her forehead.

She handed the squirming blood vessel to them and said, "This is yours."

Legion wanted to back away from her, but they calmed down first and asked her, "What was that? What was this? What am I to do with it?"

She chuckled in mirth and shook her head as she chuckled. "So many questions. All of your questions will be answered soon. Just take this and put it on your forehead."

They didn't do what she asked for. They continued to watch her warily while waiting for answers to the questions that they asked her.

She stopped chuckling and said seriously, "I am a lamp bearer and your captain. I won't harm you."

She had a point about that. Besides, they had something they could use to nullify any threat to their person if need be. So they took the blood vessel from her.

She nodded and said, "Just put it to your forehead. It will do the rest."

They did as she said. As soon as the blood vessel touched their forehead, it drilled into it and disappeared.

They didn't feel any pain. But they felt that there was something in their head.

She explained to them, "It will take some getting used to. So just ignore the wiggling for now. Soon, it will be like it is not even there."

They didn't know what she was talking about because there was no wiggling. The blood vessel had settled in and wasn't making any ruckus.

But they didn't tell her that. They just nodded in understanding.

She continued her explanation, "That right there is a piece of the body of the god of killers. It is why it is always resisting."

If they didn't have a strong mind, they would have fainted when they heard that. But they had a resilient mind and had even had a whole universe in their mind before. A tiny piece of the body of a god wasn't enough to spook them.

However, they did inhale and exhale slowly and deeply in order to release the tension they felt when they heard what she said. But this reaction wasn't enough for her.

She coughed and said, "I was expecting you to faint or jump about in panic. It seems the custodian was right. You have a sturdy mind and will."

"Usually, I would say that you shouldn't panic because the blood vessel isn't exactly the body of the god of killers. It is part of the divine artifact built with the body of the god of killers after the god of justice killed him."

"But it seems you don't need that explanation. Be that as it may, I'll give you all the information you need to have peace of mind."

Legion said, "Please do."

He wasn't frightened earlier, but he won't have peace of mind until everything has been clarified.

She chuckled before continuing. "What you have is just a tiny blood vessel. I am the one in control of the heart, and I am the one bearing most of the pressure. If I am still fine and dandy, then you have nothing to worry about."

"Now onto the tutorial. That blood vessel is part of a network of blood vessels connected to the heart that I possess."

"Those blood vessels are still connected to the heart even though they appear to be separated. We use this connection between the blood vessels and the heart to send information from the blood vessels to the heart and vice versa."

"This is the communication system that we lamp bearers use. It is faster than the telegram and even faster than using altars."

Legion said, "I guess that's what you get when you use the body of a dead god for communication. It has to be faster than an altar, or something is out of place."

Captain Sheckel laughed and said, "Right on. Not only is it faster than the altar, it is capable of creating a network between people."

"For example, the heart in my possession is the node of the network between me and all the lamp bearers in my division. The heart controls this small network but is also a part of a larger network that connects me to my supervisor."

"My supervisor is connected to other division leaders all over the world and can send information to them instantly. I too can send information to him."

Legion said in growing realization, "So through a series of nodes and connections, the lamp bearers managed to construct a large communication system that spans the world. That is impressive."

He wasn't pretending about being impressed.

According to his plan, radio technology and the global communication system that can be built with it won't come until at least 20 years later. Yet, some people have already found a way to achieve what he had in mind.

All they needed was the body of a true god. So while the system is fast and impressive, it is terribly expensive. It is so expensive that only a few of these types of networks can ever exist.

He asked her, "So how do I use this?"

She pointed at her forehead and said, "Just tap your head two times in rapid succession. The blood vessel will become active, and you will be able to touch it with your consciousness. Then you will see the network."

"The network is a web with a core and an outer ring. I represent the core. I am the node. The outer core represents everyone else."

"What you need to do next is concentrate on a piece of information in your mind and then deposit that information into the node. I will see the information immediately and reply."

He did as she told him. He tapped his forehead twice and immediately felt a connection between his consciousness and the blood vessel in his forehead.
