Chapter 301: Chapter 301 Scale Lizard
The somewhat bulky body of the dragon was torn into several pieces midair, accompanied by a massive amount of blood as it plummeted to the ground.
Law didn't see how the dragon was killed by those ten flying-type magical beasts, nor could he have ever expected that the prison side possessed ten flying-type magical beasts capable of slaying the dragon that had come from the distant skies.
The prison had no landing pad, nor any airship. Originally, as long as Law crossed the lake and reached the opposite shore, the dragon could immediately descend to pick them up, allowing them to escape with ease.
Timing-wise, the margin of error shouldn't have been too large, and by the time Law emerged from the water, the dragon should have been nearly overhead.
However, the sudden appearance of ten flying-type magical beasts not only caught Law off guard, but also ruined his plan.
During the chaos he had caused in the prison, he hadn't seen a single flying-type magical beasts from start to finish. He truly had no idea where these creatures had come from.
What shocked him even more was that the enemies were actually capable of controlling so many magical beasts.
After all, magical beasts possessed intelligence close to that of humans and were not an easily tamed species.
Even a powerful family like the Zoldycks, with their immense resources, had invested significant time and effort to successfully domesticate a single dragon solely for transportation purposes.
Moreover, these ten flying monsters are obviously unusual, because each of them had a human head atop their monstrous bodies. Not only that, these ten monsters are actually covered in Aura.
For a moment, Law thought of the Chimera Ants, but there were obvious differences between the two.
These flying-type magical beasts with human heads appeared grotesque and unnatural, while the Chimera Ants, which is born with human genes, looked relatively more organic.
With little time to dwell on it, Law immediately carried Sanbica and dashed into the dense forest.
When he found Sanbica, all Law wanted to do was to take her back for treatment as quickly as possible, but the now that Zoldyck Family's dragon was dead, his only option was to find a place to hide first and tend to Sanbica's injuries.
The ten flying-type artificial creatures hovered high in the sky, their wings flapping steadily. After killing the dragon in a coordinated assault, they happened to notice Law coming out of the lake. They immediately locked on the target and swooped down at him. Their speed was extremely fast, much faster than the dragon had been.
Their rapid descent made the airflow around their bodies visibly distort.
The Aura fluctuations carrying killing intent were approaching rapidly from the sky.
Sensing the Aura, Law's expression darkened. Though the Aura of these ten bizarre magical beasts wasn't weak, he wasn't afraid.
The problem was that he couldn't fight freely while carrying Sanbica.
In a place like this, if there is no one to protect her closely, even if Sanbica's virus restricted zone could still maintain a one-meter radius, Law would not dare to leave her alone.
After all, there are so many creatures on the island, and there would always be reckless creatures who might attack without recognizing the danger.
Only when Kuro comes to provide protection can Law focus on dealing with these flying artificial creatures.
Whoosh! Whoosh!
The ten flying-type artificial creatures swooped down from the sky, aiming straight for Law's back.
Without even turning his head, Law gauged their positions based on their Aura fluctuations. Channeling Aura into his feet, he explosively accelerated, covering dozens of meters in an instant.
Boom! Boom!
Law's sudden burst of speed caused the diving attacks of the flying beasts to miss entirely, and their bodies speared into the ground like javelins, creating deafening explosions and causing the earth itself to tremble.
'What a powerful force! Why can magical beasts use Nen? Is it because of artificial modifications?'
Law glanced back and saw the ground behind him shattered and sunken over a wide area. Even the billowing dust was unable to fully obscure the devastation.
Though their flight had contributed to the impact, their size was only five to seven times that of a human. To cause such destruction upon landing, their raw physical power had to be immense.
'What are these ten magical beasts?'
Before arriving, Law had received some classified intelligence about the Clort Prison from Netero.
However, the scant information provided had no connection whatsoever to these human-headed, beast-bodied magical beasts.
Logically speaking, magical beasts wouldn't possess human's Aura Nodes, so it is hard to imagine what allows them to use Nen.
'The way they use Aura seems somewhat rigid…'
Luo suppressed his doubts for the time being, suddenly stopped, turned around and looked at the billowing dust. Though he couldn't see the ten magical beasts, the unconcealed fluctuations of their Aura completely exposed their positions.
'Even with their vision obstructed, they're not concealing their Aura. Are they practically begging me to use them as target practice?'
Law stared coldly at the dust cloud, freed one of his hands, gathered the virus emitted from Sanbica into his hand, compressed it into a virus ball, and then shot it into the dust cloud.
Whoosh!
Five Nen Spheres wrapped in viruses shot into the dust like lightning.
"Hmm?"
Law's eyebrows suddenly raised. Although he couldn't see through the smoke, from the Aura he sensed, he knew him that all five bullets had been dodged.
"They actually dodged them."
Law muttered to himself, and while the smoke was still there, he compressed five more virus-wrapped Nen Bullets. He then used In to try his best to eliminate the fluctuations of the Nen Bullets, but though he couldn't mask Sanbica's Nen Virus.
After making preparations, Law fired five Nen Bullets again.
Watching the Nen Bullets vanish into the dust, a hint of surprise flashed in Law's eyes, and then he ran towards the dense forest without hesitation.
'The second round had also been dodged.'
'This isn't normal…'
'The fact that they could evade my attacks with zero visibility meant these ten magical beasts couldn't be judged by ordinary standards.'
Just as Law started moving again, a powerful gust of wind erupted from within the dust, dispersing it instantly and revealing the true forms of the flying magical beasts.'
Their wings resembled those of bats, but the skeletal protrusions bore three bone spikes thicker than an adult's forearm, exuding an intimidating presence.
Their upright bodies were covered in pale yellow scales, somewhat resembling a lizard's, but their necks grotesquely supported unmistakably human heads.
Among the ten flying magical beasts, while their human faces differed, their lower bodies were nearly identical, showing they are the same species.
Scale Lizards… that was the name of this magical beast. Compared to most flying magical beasts, Scale Lizards' size was average, but they possessed a deadly advantage, that is, biological venom.
When hunting, they injected neurotoxic venom into their prey through the bone spikes on their wings and the claws on their feet, swiftly paralyzing and killing their targets.
Aside from their lethal venom, their considerable speed and uncanny alertness are also what make the Scale Lizards difficult to deal with.
Many hunters had attempted to ambush Scale Lizards with firearms or arrows, but the Scale Lizards seemed to possess the reflexes of flies, often dodging attacks from blind spots with eerie precision.
With power of human's Nen, combined with the body of a Scale Lizard, this weird monster was artificially assembled.
Law had no intention of fighting, and he just wanted to rush into the dense forest as soon as possible and find a suitable place to treat Sanbica.
The ten human-headed Scale Lizards suddenly split into two groups. Five of them flew towards the prison in the center of the lake, their rapid flight carving long wakes across the water, while the other five pursued Law.
At the same time, Kuro rushed toward Law's location at full speed.
Those ten deformed flying monsters looked difficult to deal with, so he had to protect Law at all costs.
