Chapter 122: Volume 2 Chapter 65: The Gathering of All Wings
"Wait, what did you just say?!"
"General, according to the latest satellite observations, the second batch of 21 Ghidorah's Wings and the third batch of 23 Ghidorah's Wings will land simultaneously!"
In the command room, General Zhang stared in disbelief as he listened to the latest report from his subordinates. According to the astronomical observation team, an alarming development had occurred.
"The second batch of Ghidorah's Wings has begun to slow down, while the third batch is accelerating."
"According to our estimates, they will converge and… land together in East Asia."
After saying this, the reporting personnel seemed drained of all strength, as if speaking those words had exhausted them entirely. Even General Zhang felt his mind was in chaos.
…
An hour later.
At the World United Government's parliamentary shelter, via video link, personnel from the European Space Agency explained to the council members what had been captured by observation satellites at the Lagrange point. Leading the briefing was their director, Gene Craig, a renowned astronomer who once had significant achievements in academia. Now, he had shifted his focus entirely toward training new recruits for the space agency.
"Please take a look—this is what we are calling the second batch of Ghidorah's Wings, and here is the third batch."
Standing beside the screen, he displayed a series of images showing two clusters of light dots. The two clusters differed slightly in size; one cluster had larger light dots, while the other had smaller ones.
The larger cluster represented the second batch of Ghidorah's Wings, and the smaller one represented the third batch.
As he scrolled through the images, it became evident that the brightness of the smaller cluster was rapidly increasing as it approached the larger cluster.
"Five hours ago, after the last three Ghidorah's Wings landed on Earth, an anomaly began. Based on our observations, the third batch increased its speed by at least 40%, while the second batch reduced its speed by 20%."
"They're converging, gentlemen. They're converging."
Hundreds of images, like a series of comic strips, vividly illustrated the acceleration and deceleration of the Ghidorah's Wings. At the end of the sequence, new, more ominous images appeared.
Gene spoke again.
"Next, we have our projected trajectory."
"Based on the current orbits of the Ghidorah's Wings, we predict that the 23 from the second batch and the 21 from the third batch will converge approximately 170,000 kilometers from Earth. The second batch slowed down, while the third batch sped up to facilitate the convergence."
"It seems the complete annihilation of the first batch served as a warning to them… so now they intend to remain together."
"They plan to attack as one."
The new images depicted the predicted scenario: after passing the Moon, the two clusters would merge into one larger, brighter cluster near Earth and then descend together.
"The convergence has delayed their arrival by about ten hours. According to our calculations, the estimated landing time is 9:33 UTC, and the landing site will be near Yanjing, East Asia."
"By 9:00 a.m. UTC tomorrow, a total of 44 Ghidorah's Wings will launch a full-scale assault—not just on East Asia, but on the entire planet."
"This will be the most critical battle we face against them, gentlemen."
Gene's presentation concluded, and the projection shut off. The parliamentary meeting room fell into a heavy silence. No one spoke after the presentation ended.
Eventually, a new projection appeared, showing the command room of the East Asia Monster combat command base. General Zhang and his team had been waiting for the international conference to conclude.
"General Zhang, this is the situation you will face. It is estimated that 44 Ghidorah's Wings will land in your region. How confident are you that you can eliminate all of them? And how confident are you that you can end this battle without causing massive damage to other regions?"
Ludwig posed the question, fully expecting a grim response. But to his surprise, General Zhang gave a success rate that exceeded all expectations.
…
In the East Asia Monster combat command base, General Zhang held a report in his hand and addressed his team.
"The meeting is over, and the plan has been outlined. You all know what needs to be done, right?"
"If things go as before, 22 Ghidorah's Wings will remain intact and fly over our homeland. Based on that number alone…"
"Even if they self-destruct without launching an active attack like the previous three, they could still flatten all the buildings in East Asia before they perish!"
"I will not allow that to happen, and neither will any of you. So, get moving—deploy the equipment! We have full control over the robots. Go!"
His words came out in rapid-fire bursts, like a machine gun, and as he finished with a sharp command, all personnel immediately sprang into action.
Watching his team focus their energy on the mission, General Zhang felt both relieved and resolute. At the same time, he mused inwardly.
"This time, it's not their homeland being threatened. That's why those old cronies in Australia can act so relaxed. A bunch of jerks. I won't forget this—don't expect a friendly face from me in the future."
"But… will this operation really succeed? No, it must succeed. If we don't have faith in the plan we devised ourselves, how can we deliver a crushing blow to those winged monsters?"
"Regardless of the risks, doing something is better than doing nothing."
Based on the original battle plan, using only their current resources, eliminating all 22 of the remaining Ghidorah's Wings after they land was almost impossible. Even if they could, the cost would be enormous. While they could theoretically bear such losses, they were unwilling to do so at the cost of countless lives.
Thus, they had only one option.
They had to strike while the monsters were on the ground but before they took flight again—using unconventional tactics.
With this thought, General Zhang turned his gaze toward the large screen in the command room. Now that the international conference had concluded, it displayed a map of East Asia.
Several red dots were marked on the map, indicating the locations deemed most likely for the Ghidorah's Wings to land.
These were the places they would sacrifice.
Faced with a choice between people and land, they chose the people.
…
In Australia, two natural consciousnesses were in communication. One represented Godzilla's ecosystem, while the other represented humanity's ecosystem.
After a brief exchange, they reached an agreement.
