Chapter 115: Threatened
Being repeatedly ignored didn't feel good. It was the first time Paul felt that his existence was worthless.
That's why his fists clenched as if he wanted to make his fingers pierce through the palm of his hand.
At that moment, another one of the 12 spoke up.
"You little brat, you should know the kind of status we all have. Mr. Paul is one of the richest men in this region, being one of the most important businessmen, thanks to his Mantra Group being present in many companies." He said and glared fiercely at Louis.
"You are nobody to talk to us like that, much less to someone as distinguished as Mr. Paul. Who do you think you are? Maybe you have a good status thanks to Dimash, but don't you know that Dimash himself had to back down in front of Mr. Paul? Being from the younger generation and so arrogant... phew!" He pretended to spit before speaking again.
"I despise you. You are the most arrogant young man I have ever seen."
Clearly, his words reflected what the rest wanted to say, so no one else had to open their mouths.
Finally, Louis smiled and looked at him.
"Since you want to speak for him, what is your name?" he asked.
"Hmph. Although you are not worthy, you should at least know that I, Theodore Fortinni, will make your father's life miserable just for this. Not only me, I think we all agree." He said, and after looking around, several people took his side.
Well, everyone at the Table of 12 was on his side, as well as several other businessmen.
Only a few decided not to say anything, as they did not have Dimash's power or anything like that.
Louis smiled then. "So, Fortinni, huh. Very well." He nodded and looked at Paul.
"Before midnight, you, you, you, and you will sell your companies for as much as... 10 million. I hope you can enjoy it every day, because it will be the last thing you do."
He had pointed to Paul, Fortinni, Dewey, and the member of the House of the Ancient Moon who was crawling like a dog in front of Paul.
After that, Louis turned around and didn't look at anyone who was questioning or insulting him from behind. Honestly, all of this was nothing more than a game.
He wanted to bring down a few people. Only then would they respect him in this underworld.
Although Dimash was worried, he followed closely behind with Jessy and Secretary Jackson.
When they were outside the Tower, Dimash looked strangely at Louis and couldn't help but ask.
"Is what you did okay, Mr. Carwine? That's... quite dangerous. They are renowned businessmen. Even if your family is closely related to the Ascended, it's not easy to make them give up, let alone sell their industries for so little."
Louis smiled. "Tell me one thing. If I make them sell their industries for 10 million, it would cause chaos, right?" he asked.
Dimash nodded. "Not only that. It would directly affect the local economy of the District. This district tends to stay afloat solely because of local businesspeople, since the Houses don't invest much to not draw too much attention to themselves." He said, then remembered that Louis had pointed out a House of the Ancient Moon member, so he spoke again.
"Plus, you'll have serious problems with Ancient Moon. Those guys are powerful, even if they're weakened. And if the rumors are true, that man in the straw hat could be with them, which makes them several times more dangerous."
Louis shrugged.
"So buying them at that price will create chaos. Just what I need." He patted Dimash on the shoulder. "I've recently realized that chaos and I are good friends. I need chaos to make my moves. So this is just what I need." With that, he got into Dimash's car.
In the current era, this car is a great luxury.
"Since you have nothing to do and depend entirely on my help to regain your pride, take me to several places. There are things to do before midnight," he said.
Although Dimash found it hard to believe that Louis could accomplish what he said, he eventually got into the car, almost grumbling.
After everyone was inside, he started driving in the direction Louis told him.
He stayed in the middle-class neighborhoods of this place. He stopped at one of the houses in the area, and only Louis got out.
Knock*
Knock*
A few seconds after knocking on the door, someone came out to see him.
"Lord Carwine, I wasn't expecting to see you today," said the man, stepping aside to let him in. "Come in, Lord."
He was Theos' brother, Jacob.
Once inside, he served him coffee and sat across from Louis.
Louis then spoke.
"There's an important mission for you."
"An important mission?" Jacob immediately became excited. "What do you need, Mr. Carwine? I'm already working for you."
"It's a simple mission, but complicated at the same time. You must go north."
"North?" Jacob immediately knew it was the district's northern part, so he frowned.
"Yes. You must go and investigate everything you can about the White Lotus and also about a certain character... The Lord."
Jacob frowned even more when he heard those two names.
"Are you planning to invade the North, Lord Carwine?" he asked.
Having him investigate the White Lotus and "The Lord" was a matter of great importance. The House of the White Lotus is the strongest in the North, although there is one almost equal in power, it is slightly above, and its latest moves position it even better.
As for "The Lord," he is an important figure. He is the leader of the church that worships the Industrial God of Steam as its supreme deity.
As the main leader, his status and power within the district are immense, to the point of reaching the level of power of the Houses on his own.
It is not easy to investigate him.
And Louis knew it.
"The North will eventually bow down to me as well. But they have greater power than the South, so I have to move differently. I need information from those guys to defeat them more easily."
Jacob nodded. "Very well, Lord Carwine. I'll do just as you ask. Luckily, I have some contacts in the North, so it will be easier for me."
"Very well." Louis nodded. "You'll leave early this night. Take this money and do two more things. Invest in various companies that are in the same market as the Mantra Group companies."
Jacob nodded. "Mantra Group? If I'm not mistaken, that's Paul Borne's, right?"
"Yes. That's the one."
He smiled. "Very well, Lord Carwine."
Louis then stood up. "Remember to leave at dawn. Between 1 and 3 a.m. is a good time. Before or after that, you'll be discovered."
After that, he said goodbye and left.
Dimash took Louis to the place he had indicated—one of the House of the Ancient Moon companies.
Upon arrival, Louis finally told everyone to get out and follow him.
"Lord Carwine." Several people greeted him as soon as he started to enter, and no one got in his way.
This was strange for Dimash. What was going on?
Meanwhile, they went inside and were soon on the top floor of the building, in the last office.
Knock*
After knocking, Louis didn't wait for the door to open and simply walked in.
Theos and the other leaders of Ancient Moon were present. The three immediately stood up, startled.
"Lord Carwine!" Theos quickly stepped forward to let him in. "Come in. You should have told me you were coming, and I would have come out to greet you," he said quickly.
Louis simply entered. He didn't pay much attention to him.
"Call Jackvin, Dicson, and Fraid. I have something important to say. Tell them to be here in less than an hour." After that, he sat down in the main seat.
"Right away, sir." Theos quickly left and sent for them with an Ascended, so it would be faster.
After that, he returned to the room. But no one spoke.
Dimash and his secretary couldn't understand what was going on. They were in shock, so it was even more difficult for them to process it.
They weren't the only ones, as Jessy had no idea that Louis was in charge of Ancient Moon. Wasn't it just a part of the House of Shadows?
Since when did that become the House of Ancient Moon?
Louis noticed her doubts, so he smiled at her.
"That's why I told you earlier that you could use my status. I'll help you use it soon. You'll understand soon enough," he said.
Jessy didn't know what to do or say, so she simply nodded.
Afterward, the room fell silent again, and before long, Jackvin, Dicson, and Fraid arrived.
Once everyone was inside, Louis finally spoke.
"The way you have educated your businessmen brings shame to my face and to the South. They bow down to the north in a ridiculous manner, maintaining a posture of shame and dishonor. I dislike it. I thought you were good at something, but now I see you are not even good at that." He sneered.
