Chapter 21: 20
"Let me go!" — the little dhampir writhed as if he were already dead. — Why did the mistress ask you to train me in the first place?
"Well, it wasn't her — that's the first thing. And secondly, to be perfectly honest, you're the weakest link in the team. Do you want her to get killed because of you? Do you want her to suffer at the hands of our enemies? The woman who saved you, gave you a home and care, who has done more for you than anyone else. Are you really that ungrateful?
"No!" squealed the short man, "Never, I would do anything for my mistress. But... I'm scared. People are scary. I want to be useful!
"We'll fix that," I nodded importantly. "If you want to be useful to your mistress, you have to give it your all! Your desire is important! Do you want to become someone she can rely on?
"Yes!" — m-m-motivation. And "a little" suggestion has nothing to do with it. Absolutely nothing. — What should I do?
"Now we're going to perform a little ritual. It's very old, but extremely effective. — I smile sweetly at the child. — All I need is your consent. Tell me, are you willing to temporarily entrust your body and soul to me for... — what a temptation," — your empowerment?
Don't say too much, Verg. Don't finish his sentences, let him figure it out for himself.
"Yes!" — I'm speechless. "I'll trust you, senpai. If the lady trusts you, so do I." — And a bow. "Please make me stronger, for her sake." — Hmm, did I overdo it with the suggestion?
"Wonderful. — I slowly say the word, massaging my bridge. — Here, take it and read it. This is a contract, modified for our case, which you can show me or your mistress if there are any complaints. As you understand, it is demonic, so all the points specified on the parchment will be fully observed. Especially the encrypted, veiled and ambiguous ones.
"I'll read it now." The guy took the sheet and began to study it. Time passed, and I began to think that they had figured me out and that now there would be haggling over every clause and a bunch of clarifications, but... "I agree." And he put his clumsy signature on it.
I wonder if he really didn't notice the points written in Arabic and framed around the parchment? I made them into a nice drawing, just in case...
"Okay." I said the word just as slowly, putting away my copy of the contract. Ah, boy, naivety is good for the heart, but not for the mind. And you don't think with your head. "Then lie down in this circle." It was burned into the floor of my laboratory, which we had moved to, by the way. I placed several containers with biomass and several artefacts with the souls of medium demons that I had managed to squeeze out of Sazex around the edges. "You will fall into a sleep that will last for some time, your body will change, and your soul will gain additional potential and magical reserves. The main thing is not to be afraid, everything will be fine.
I start the ritual and begin to observe its progress. If everything goes well at first, the rest of the process does not require observation. The ritual itself is part of something bigger, as it is designed to influence character to a certain extent by manipulating the personality. I won't be able to make any drastic changes, but it will be possible to change the direction of his development. The biomass will strengthen the body, and the souls will kick-start development.
But the best part of our contract is that in the event of Gasper's death, his artefact will pass to me. If I want to or if I see a threat to myself or my family in his actions, I can take the artefact by force, literally tearing it out with his soul. In short, I've got him by the balls... I've got his soul. It's a pity that the figures of evil don't see such deals, because when Ajuka created the figures, he didn't know about the possibility of such manipulation of souls. And no one knows, because everyone who could do such a thing died either before the war between the three factions or during it.
Okay, it seems like the process is going smoothly, and when the guy wakes up, he won't wear women's clothes anymore. His body will become stronger, but his appearance won't change. Well, further training with the mechanism and magic will give him a boost to improve his control and increase his reserves.
"Sleep well, my little investment in the future," I sang sweetly. "You'll still be able to prove your worth. I hope you'll give me a reason to slaughter you or cause an accident. Later, not now.""You're getting meaner and meaner," the dragon chuckled, "At this rate, you'll trick Rias into selling her soul for a bag of chips. You seem to be growing and improving, but not in the right direction."
"Hmm, buy Rias' soul... There's something to that, don't you think?"
"I was joking!" the red one jumped up, "Don't even think about it, Sazex and Gremory will tear you limb from limb!"
"But they won't find out. You know how it works, finding out who sold their soul or if it was sold at all is pretty tricky. The threads of the contract are too ephemeral, too conceptually incomprehensible. This isn't some Harry Potter nonsense; demonic papers are much more, heh heh, universal." The demonic Jew inside had already raised his head, demanding a contract with Graffia, Sona, and Rias.
"Calm down, you wretch! What are you thinking? Shut your mouth. Graffia may obey for obvious reasons, but Sona is not that stupid... Rias. We need a different approach here, or a situation where no other solution is possible. I remember she likes chess..." the dragon said with a hint.
"Wait," he said aloud, "why the hell do I need their souls?
"How should I know?" The suitcase raised its eyebrows. "You asked me a question, I gave you an answer or a plan. The reasons are secondary. Maybe you wanted to tie them to yourself so they wouldn't run away.
"Okay, hit me over the head again, it seems like not everything has been cleared out. — I shake my head, massaging my temples, — Ouch! I'm just kidding!
"Sorry." And he couldn't even hide his amusement.
"You fucking flaky bitch.
"Hey!
***
"Here I am, my dear Rias." I open the door to the club and smoothly, like a snake, circle around the chair to sit down. I wonder if I can repeat that trick Lucifer did when he turned into a snake and crawled up to Eve? It's a shame, of course, that the apple, that very "apple," wasn't really a fruit, or rather, it wasn't a fruit at all... Oh dear, what happened then, all of Eden was in an uproar.
My eyes followed the redhead, who was reading something intently.
"Tell me, Virgil, how do you feel about me?" — but... that's not what I wanted to hear at all. She put the book away and looked into my eyes. "What was between us 'back then'... do you feel something? Or...
I closed my eyes and relaxed my body, settling into a more comfortable position in the chair. I hadn't expected this conversation, although I knew it was inevitable, not after what we had done and especially not after what she had made up in her head.
And it was a good question. What did I think of her? On the one hand, there are problems with her home and some demons (which can simply be killed quietly, but that's a detail), and on the other hand, there is a banal unwillingness to give such a valuable and delicious piece to anyone, especially resisting the possibility of losing my dragon part. So I can say for sure that I value her, even if it's not love, but my silence here is like the moon.
My silence dragged on, and my half-open eyes caught Rias's increasing nervousness. Her eyes begin to glisten, but the tears are not yet flowing. It seems to me that she thinks I want to say, "I'm sorry, but we can't be together."
I opened my eyes and started looking at her, noticing how her fingertips were trembling slightly. She was biting her cheek from the inside. She was sitting there waiting for an answer. Is that why she feels this way? How did she come to believe that this love is the kind they write about in novels and sing about in songs?
"Rias," she gasps in surprise, "To be honest... I don't fully understand my own emotions. But. But if I gather my thoughts together, then..." I walk over to the chair she is sitting on and turn it so that we are facing each other. "You are dear to me." I see hope in her eyes. "If you thought I would turn away from you, you are wrong." I'm too greedy, too stubborn and reckless for that. — I say this, and it makes me feel uncomfortable, I need to go on the offensive. — Answer me, will you be mine? All of you, completely. — My teeth are grinding from the sweetness of the moment. — Only mine and no one else's.
I can see the wheels turning in Gremory's eyes, his brain working at full capacity. I can literally hear the noise. Time passes, and finally, a light comes on in her blue eyes, which instantly focus on me.
"Yes." — A quiet, barely audible answer miraculously catches my ear. "I agree to be yours, and I don't need anyone else." — She throws herself into my arms and squeezes me tightly. "I don't need anyone else." Our lips touch in a tender kiss that sends waves of goosebumps across her body.
I pick her up and sit down on the sofa, placing her next to me.
"Well, I wanted to take you for a walk around the most romantic city in the world. Feed you delicacies.
"I'm fine here, as long as you're with me." "God, is it just me, or does everyone else taste sickly sweet, Ddraig?
Thank God that conversation is over. I don't like dealing with matters of the heart, I'd rather use the Grail again and watch cartoons with ghosts.
I transported us to the roof of the school. I protected us from the wind with magic. We sat there for several hours, watching the sun slowly sink below the horizon. Rias's head was on my collarbone, my hand slowly stroking her soft, invitingly fragrant scarlet hair.Soon I realised she had fallen asleep, so I carried her to the bed in the club, covered her and double-checked the barriers. You have to protect what's yours, or you could lose everything you've invested. Greed won't let you waste such a valuable resource. For such an effect, you can even spread yourself across the floor with sweet words.
There was absolutely nothing to do. The problematic conversations with my family and Rias were over, and everything had been settled. The bodies for pawns were ripening, but I had no desire to train. Of course, I was tempted to summon Excalibur, but that was more of a desire that had been passed on to me from Lutz. Therefore, it was ruthlessly pushed to the back of my mind.
All that remained was to wait for the summit, which was just around the corner. Even the demons and fallen ones weren't coming to the territory, how boring! As soon as Rias woke up, I would take her on a date, because we had slept together but hadn't gone out once.
***
The day of the signing of the peace treaty.
"Greetings to all gathered here," Sazex addressed everyone present. "Today is a great day. The day when a peace treaty will be signed between our factions. Conflicts will cease so that we can stand united against those who would encroach on our freedoms.
The former Gremory delivered this speech for the record, which would be made public later. At that moment, there were many representatives from each faction in the room. Michael was there with the churchwomen we knew (unlike in the canon, here Zenovia remained a loyal supporter of the church and continued to serve heaven) and a number of angels to maintain order. Azazel was also there with Vali, the fallen angel who had brought his winged squad. From the demons, there were Saz and Serapholl, accompanied by Greifia and a squad of demons. They all joined forces and formed a ring of their people around the academy so that they could hold back the enemy until the main forces arrived.
In addition, the sisters' retinue was inside the building, ready to report on Kokabiel's attack.
Akeno, Shuri, Reina, and I sat quietly in a corner, not drawing attention to ourselves, peacefully sipping the tea that my sister had brought us. I refused to share it with anyone else, savouring its exquisite taste with my friends.
It was amusing to watch Graifia, who periodically cast barely perceptible glances at me, the meaning of which I did not even try to determine. Oh well. But if the dragon and my intuition were to be believed, she posed no threat. Oops, heh heh, Serafall accidentally glanced at the maid and caught her looking at me. Having made up her mind, she nodded and turned her attention back to Lucifer, who was still talking.
Ignoring the tons of overly watery speech, I leaned back in my chair and relaxed. I didn't want to hear these pleasantries.
The negotiations had been going on for three hours, with the parties discussing all the points for the umpteenth time. Everything could have been ready long ago, but for the cameras and for appearances' sake, they had to show a heated debate.
Finally, everyone got to the most important points.
"Now, we would like to hear the opinion of the forces that could shake the world order. Dragon Emperors, have your say," said Azazel, and everyone began to look from Vali to me and back.
I remained silent, waiting for White's response, which was not long in coming. It was a pity, of course, that we hadn't communicated for so long, and I still didn't know how Arthur had been deprived of the fragment of Excalibur. Damn, oh well.
"I don't mind," said the "grandson," "There are enough enemies in the world as it is." He gave me a direct, "menacing" look.
"I agree," I nodded at Vali and smiled crookedly. "There will always be those who go against the system you are creating now. You can practise on them."
Azazel and Sazex grunted in response, while Michael continued to stare at me with an inscrutable look. His expression showed that he was thinking hard, as if trying to remember something.
"Good," said the chief of heaven. "Now we have to decide what to do with the holy sword." For some reason, everyone tensed up. "I would like to know if you will return it to us."
"How can I put it...," I scratched my chin, "If you can remove the bond between us, then please do so. But," I raised my finger, "may I remind you that this piece of metal chose me as its owner. I will pull it out now, and you can try to take it. Don't get nervous," I warn the crowd, pulling out the artefact.
Everyone gasped as the aura of the weapon filled the room, even Sazex was moved.
"Here," I said, holding Excalibur by the hilt towards the archangel, "if you can take it, take it. No... well, if you can't, then you can't."
As soon as the archangel took the sword in his hand, it immediately went cold, ceasing to glow with energy and turning into an ordinary, albeit beautiful, piece of metal.
"Impossible..." the angel exhaled, "It only behaved like that when its owner was..." His eyes widened and stared at me like the eyes of all the big bosses. "You... it can't be."
"Don't make things up," I said, shaking my head. "It's not quite what you think. Let me..." I took the sword from his hands and hid it in my pocket. "This story isn't for today, and it's not for many. Let's get together, you, me, Az, Saz, maybe someone else. I'll tell you over a cup of Asgardian ale.
"That's an idea. "Important," Azazel nodded, sensing a possible drinking session. Sazex supported him, to the displeased snorting of Serapholl.
"Since we've come to the conclusion that the sword will remain with me," I said emphatically, "I can't leave you without compensation.
"What are you talking about?" asked the angel, recovering from his shock.
"Do you know a sweet and naive nun named Assia Argen? I can see in your eyes that you do," I grunted. "Well, I'm giving her to you as a gesture of goodwill, to strengthen the angels and in the hope of warm relations."
With a snap of his fingers, the nun appeared in the light of teleportation, still lying in a coma.
"Here you are. — With the gesture and tone of the most generous merchant, I point to the girl. — The artefact is with her.
The angel, who had stood up to check on the blonde, called one of his men and sent him to the Vatican with the girl.
"We searched her," the archangel rubs his nose. "Can you tell us why she's with you?"
"Koki-chan decided to strengthen his faction with her artefact, but I, the valiant one, appeared and dealt with everyone... I mean, solved the problem. I saved the girl from the clutches of evil and treacherous fallen angels." Don't roll your eyes, Azazel!
"Thank you for saving her. She is a kind soul who does not deserve such a terrible fate," the angel thanked me.
"That's not all! The attraction of unprecedented generosity continues!" — Clap your hands and a second blonde appears, but this time with red eyes and the features of a bloodsucker. — Only today and only now, descendant of Vlad the Third, a potentially powerful mage — Valeria Tsepesh. Starting price — one service.
"Am I the only one who finds this strange?" Serafall asked in a loud whisper, "He's doing this here and now...
"It's simple, this girl is strong and can strengthen any retinue or faction, and she can also be used to put pressure on the vampires," replied the demoness. "But to give her away for free... I'd choke on my own greed. So, while everyone is still here, you can purchase such a valuable asset... um. Asset.
"He treats her like a thing," Zenovia hissed to Irina, who was drilling my carcass with a murderous gaze.
"Pff. I rolled my eyes at her whisper.
"I'll take her," said Rias, and without meeting any resistance, sent the girl to her home in Kuo.
"Strange. Sign here and here." I handed her the parchment, which she signed after reading it several times. Az and Sazeks rolled their eyes again.
"Shall we continue?" the leader of the fallen asked in a tired tone. "This isn't a summit, it's hell."
As soon as the leaders signed the document, the academy was sealed by a dome preventing teleportation. Looking out the window, everyone saw a multitude of seals from which demons, fallen ones, and human magicians poured out.
And time isn't standing still, because Gasper is still improving in my lab. I got a little carried away, and the process took a couple more days.
"They know they're late, don't they?" I raise an eyebrow.
"No," Az shrugged. "Can you handle it?"
"Yeah," I nod. "We need to relieve the tension anyway." I say the last words under my breath. "Are you with me?"
"Of course!" Val's armour calls out and rushes at the mages, tearing them apart with his bare hands.
"Right," I turn to Rias and my friends. "Stay here, I'll create a protective barrier. And don't you dare come in, there's plenty of me here, and White is with me." They nod, albeit reluctantly. "And get your people out of here, let them rest." I address the leaders, who have already created communication seals.
Wonderful. I create a barrier that amplifies the red and cover everyone with it.
"Everyone's here." Cattleya appears on the scene. Hmm, she's wearing glasses. The strict teacher look suits her. "Once we get rid of you, we can carry out our plans." She says and swallows the snake...
Her power level has increased significantly. She wasn't the weakest before, but now... This Leviathan can stand up to Seraph or Sazex.
The steroids from Ouroboros are cool, no doubt about it.
"Do you mind?" I summon my artefact, which I switch to sword mode and Excalibur. I get nods from the leaders and step outside my barrier, feeding it a little more energy, just in case.
"So this is what you are, Sekirutei," the demoness narrows her eyes. "Never mind, we'll find a way to deal with you." She waves her hand and hundreds of spells fly at me, followed immediately by an attack from human mages and demons.
"This is interesting. Did this shade of demonic energy come from your connection to the Office?" I say to myself. "You'll be interesting to study."
I lunged forward, dodging the flying spells and cutting down enemies with my swords. I was fast enough that not a single drop of blood splattered on my clothes. In a couple of seconds, all the assholes attacking me lost their heads, and my artefact absorbed their souls. They won't be missed.
"You're strong," Kattley stated, summoning another snake and swallowing it. "Since this trash can't stop you, I will.
This time, her power was only doubled, which allowed her to temporarily become stronger than Sazex. She closed the distance, showering me with magic. All her spells were destructive, and it would have been foolish to take them on with my shield, so I dodged all her attacks and tried to get closer.
"She's stronger than us. For now. But we can't wait for Office's power to wear off. "Thanks, Red, that's encouraging. "Yes, yes, stop joking around and dodge!"
I didn't notice the next burst of energy because I was distracted by the dragon, so my hand was instantly severed from my body without meeting any resistance.
"I was hoping for more." Leviathan's crooked grin provoked me. So, ignoring the cries of my family, I pulled my hand back and placed it on the stump.
"You have snakes, and I have my secrets," I explained to the girl, who was watching with wide eyes as the Grail worked, radiating holy energy and death. "But you're right. I can't defeat you now. You're too strong. The office did a good job creating these amplifiers. Maybe I should show my cards too?" I glance at the leaders of the three factions and catch Azazel's gaze, who is tensely watching my actions. Hmm, what's that? Did they amplify the sound? Does that mean they can hear everything we say? Ha, well, never mind. I need to reveal some secrets anyway.
"You think I'll give you time for that?" Another shower of magic rains down on me, burying me beneath it.
"Virgil!" Akeno and Shuri shouted, while Rias and Reina clenched their fists.
"Why are you shouting?" My voice reached them through the dusty veil, which was dispelled a second later by a powerful gust of wind. "Everything's fine. It's time to get serious." I cracked my neck. Yes, pathos is our everything.
Everyone gasped when they saw my white, eternally smouldering wings, inherited from Luc, and my eyes turned red gold from the energy of sin that was spread around me.
"Verg?" my sister asked in shock, clutching my mother's forearm.
"Yes, the irritated version." I absorbed more and more of the energy, which made the smouldering effect more noticeable, causing some discomfort but not distracting me; on the contrary, it made me focus on what was happening.
"This energy," Leviathan squinted, her glasses glinting, "How did you learn to control it?"
"Trade secret." I smiled crookedly and quickly closed the distance between us. The swings of my blades forced her to retreat, but gradually she began to fight back. Cattleya's magical flames burned my skin, but it regenerated thanks to the Grail.
"Soon, this energy will start to affect you." Ddraig spoke during a brief pause in the fight. "I can hold it back, but your desire to 'deliver justice' won't diminish much."
"Then we need to wrap this up," I nodded to the dragon and summoned a storm of lightning bolts that struck the mages that Vali hadn't finished off. The demoness amused herself by beating up the higher demon who had come with Cattleya.
I begin to draw strength from my vices and sins, causing my thoughts to mix together for a moment. Among this swarm, desires uncharacteristic of me begin to slip through. Fortunately, the red softens the situation a little, pushing the seditious thoughts aside.
I jump up and throw Excalibur at Leviathan, who dodges and rolls away, where my artefact pierces her stomach.
"Kha," she spits out blood, which begins to drip down her chin and onto my hand. "So it didn't work," the demoness reproaches herself, feeling her soul being sucked into my weapon.
"That's wonderful." I pull out my sword and hide Cattleya's body in my "inventory." It might come in handy.
Where's the "grandson"?
Before I have time to think about Vali, I am distracted by a cry of "LOOK OUT!"
At that moment, Albion's white gauntlet emerged from my chest.
"That was easier than I thought," said the white-haired man calmly, not noticing the cries coming from the barrier that worked both ways. No way out, no way in.
"Actually..." The white-haired man withdrew his hand and jumped back, watching the hole in my chest close up. "That's, ugh, unpleasant," I grimaced at the sensation. "But the bearer of the Grail is difficult to kill. Have you decided to betray him?"
"Yes, for my own purposes." The demon nodded. "I hope our fight will be much better than I imagined." The white-haired man grinned and rushed into the attack.
He fought with his bare hands, without using any weapons. Because of this, in the heat of battle, he had to dodge the swings of my sword. It would have continued like this, but apparently my opponent's patience had run out, and he closed the distance, soaring into the sky and activating his most powerful ability — Dimension Halving. This technique allowed him to tear apart matter and space, destroying it by compressing the space itself.
He almost achieved his goal, but my intervention in the activated spell caused the magic to explode in his hands, tearing flesh and leaving bare bones.
Vali fell down, but at the very ground, he was intercepted by Biko, who greeted him (!) and immediately ran away with his friend.
I am in no hurry to remove the barrier from my people, as Albion's attack, distorted by my magic, created an anomaly at the site of its explosion that began to pull me in. Perhaps because of the desire to use the technique on me, this anomaly sucks only me in, because everything around me remains untouched. The more I resist, the stronger the pull, which means... I'm fucked. I'm tired, and Sazeks, Azazel and Mikhail running towards me are unlikely to be able to help. I need to summon Excalibur back.
"Hold on, you bastard. You're not getting away. "Grab my hand, Az," "What the fuck is that in the sky?
"Judging by the feeling, it's a portal. More precisely, a tear in space leading to God knows where. Possibly to the Red One's interworld. — I reply to the fallen one, grabbing Sazex and Michael's hands.
"Azazel," says the red-haired demon tensely, "Do something. This thing is pulling us in harder and harder."
"I can't," the fallen demon growls after trying a dozen spells, "it's absorbing magic."
"Same thing," Michael nodded to Satan.
"All right. If that's the case," I said calmly, looking Azazel in the eyes, "this thing won't rest until it pulls me in, so I'll fly into it. Don't interrupt me! Yes, I know it's stupid, but the Grail won't let me die. As soon as I wake up, I'll look for a way to get back. Take care of my people.
"Tsk, you'll look after them yourself. As soon as we get you out of there," Azazel growls.
"It won't work, she's drawing out the magic and getting stronger. There's no chance anyway." I shake my head. "Protect my family while I'm gone." I smile crookedly at the grim fallen angel. "Tell them I'll be back." Soon." Receiving a nod, I relax.
They couldn't hold me any longer, and my body flew into the space created by Albion.
"I'll be back, and I'll rip the legs off that idiot," I muttered under my breath, watching the various colours surrounding me.

Azazel kept his word to his nephew and surrounded his family with so many tracking spells that they reported the movement of worms underground. The total number of demons and angels on duty in the city exceeded a hundred.
Vergil's family was not in the best of moods. Akeno, having cried herself out, threw herself into training, as she now considered herself useless. After all, she had been unable to help her brother "because of her weakness."
Shuri and Reynal felt the same emotions, so they began to train relentlessly. The blessing of the Holy Grail gave them strong bodies and regeneration, which offset the effects of hard training, allowing the girls to literally tear themselves apart. Needless to say, they didn't notice Barakiel, who had come to the city to see how they were doing.

Somewhere in the interworld, a giant red dragon decided to alter the flight path of an unlucky owner of a holy sword.
