Chapter 20: 19
"Ierahmiel!" I could only watch as a dark grey blade belonging to an unknown monster emerged from the archangel's chest, as if in slow motion, from the red-gold oval of the portal.
The body of my brother, the archangel, slowly sank to the ground, while the monster that had killed him just grinned. Anger began to boil inside me once again, giving me the strength to move. He lunged forward with the aim of severing the head of the monster that had dared to kill the one who watched over the dead, the guardian of the gates of the Dark Lands. The sword's stroke was met by a hard block from his opponent, who contorted his face into a grimace uncharacteristic of any creature I knew.
"You dared to kill the guardian of the world of the dead!" The voice that burst from my throat sounded more like a snake's hiss. "You worthless piece of trash! You! All of you are unworthy to stand under HIS sun!" A blow, another blow, a block. "For this, I am judge, jury and executioner, and I pronounce your sentence." The battle with the monsters that had escaped from the Dark Lands paused for a few moments, which was enough time to deliver the sentence. "In HIS name, I, Lucifer Morningstar, Morning Star, find you guilty!" Waves of light surrounded the opposing armies, and God himself turned his gaze upon us, granting me a portion of his power for a time. "You are banished to a world of greyness and decay until the end of time! The gates separating the worlds will be sealed, and no one will be able to cross the border without the key, which will be the Grail — a fragment of HIS will!" The light began to twist space, creating distortions that pulled the monsters back into their world with insane force, leaving my army untouched. "Disappear." The last word drove the final nail into the coffin of our enemies' victory, forcing the world itself to reject "HIS mistakes."
"This is not the end, favourite. — Stabbing his sword into the ground and holding on to it, the one behind the invasion defied the will of God. "I will return, and we will take our place under his sun." His eyes, completely red and emitting a red mist of hatred, stared into mine. "Let decades, centuries, millennia pass, but we will return, I will return. And nothing will save his dear people from our, my hatred! We will set the Beast free! Then it will be the end for you, for them. For all of you! Trikex is our trump card, our strongest weapon! He will be the beginning of your end. And after that, we will come to start all over again, and there will be no place for you in our world.
The will of God began to weigh on the red-eyed man, who slid across the ground towards the portal, leaving furrows in the earth.
"You will not return, I will take care of everything." My voice was quiet, but it could be heard clearly in the rising storm. "Brothers," I said to the remaining archangels, who, although weakened, were ready to continue the battle. "Let's join forces to seal the gates to the world of death forever."
I didn't need to turn around to see their silent nods. A beam of energy shot out from each archangel, feeding the seal I had created, spending their last strength to strengthen it, literally sacrificing their souls for it.
A flash of light and a wave of energy finally pushed the last monster back into the portal, causing the gates between the worlds to close, forming an impenetrable barrier across the entire border of the enemy dimension, guarded by the souls of the archangels and angels who had died in this battle.
Silence fell on the battlefield as soon as the light stopped blinding and the gates were sealed. There were no more attackers, no more of the first generation of archangels. Only Michael and I would remember the battle that had taken place, for simple warriors had intervened in the ritual, wanting to help, feeding my rune circle. All sacrificed their souls to seal away the world of "God's mistakes."
"You could have intervened! You could have sealed them yourself! Why was this sacrifice necessary? They are all dead, my brothers and sisters! Because of your unwillingness to intervene!" My cry to the creator was ignored.
"You will forget what happened," the insinuating reply of the bearded creature struck as hard as Leviathan in his wrath. "You and Michael are the last ones who know. So forget it, as if it were a bad dream. Only the Grail will remember the sacrifice made for the prosperity of the world, and it will become the key to the Dark Lands. For the sake of the future.
"Why..." My question remained unanswered as darkness clouded my mind, sealing the events that had taken place here in my memory.
"No one must know what the Dark Lands hold. For your own sake." The whisper of the creator of the world went unheard.
***
It was all just a dream.
Sunlight streamed through a small crack between the curtains, falling directly on my closed eyes, pulling me out of my sleep... out of my memories.
"Partner... Verg..." The red man's voice was quiet, all the growling notes so familiar to the ear were gone. "How are you?"
"You saw everything yourself," my answer made him shut up for a moment, not distracting him from his slowly flowing thoughts, even Shuri and Akeno lying nearby did not help. "It seems that the Grail's influence was able to remove the lock from the memories that Biblian had so carefully erased."
"This story... according to legends and lore, the first generation existed back when HIS first creations walked the earth, before they were sent into oblivion." Ddraig pondered, apparently trying to distract me from the dark thoughts caused by the deaths of all those who had trusted me. The entire fucking army!
"Biblical erased all memories of the incident and pretended that he had just created us with Michael. Anger began to stir deep within me." "He created replacements for the brothers and sisters who sacrificed themselves." A low, guttural roar escaped my throat, and I was so consumed by anger that I didn't notice the girls trembling in my arms. "You simply erased us from history, consigned our work to oblivion, and for what!" My eyes changed colour against my will, returning to the glowing, sinful colour of molten gold.
"But now we know where Trikexa came from," the dragon said in a positive tone. "Look on the bright side, at least that's something."
"You do understand that we can't destroy the beast's core power, right?" I raised an eyebrow questioningly, pushing my anger aside. It turns out... not so good. "It's guarded by 'mistakes' who worship this crap like a god that will one day break its chains and give them a world to live in. To break through that kind of defence, we need an army much bigger than my old one. And as you saw, it could bend all three current factions to its will without even breaking a sweat."
"Based on your memories of the canon, almost all the leaders spent their strength and created a separate dimension where they fought the beast long and hard. What's stopping us from doing the same?" The suitcase finally asked the right question.
"Do you want to spend millennia trying to kill him?" The red one realised that the question was rhetorical and remained silent. "No, after the death of his source of power, he will die in a matter of minutes, unable to sustain his existence outside his native dimension."
"Then let's summarise what we have," — why does he need glasses on his face? He's a dragon... "We gather an army and go kick the inhabitants of the Dark Lands with the aim of destroying the Beast's source of power. While we're there, someone distracts Trikex so she doesn't come home and kick us."
"Something like that..." I nod slowly.
"Uh-huh... yeah..." A minute of silence is broken only by the ticking of the clock. "Are you normal? Verg, you're going to pass up such a source of power for yourself? Screw everyone, let's take the Beast's core!"
"Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha-ha!" — thank goodness I managed to retreat into my inner world before this emotional outburst, "Aha-ha-ha-ha-ha!" — it sounded more like hysterics. "Red, phew, you really gave it to me. Heh heh, did you really think I'd pass up such an opportunity?"
"Thank God," exhaled Ddraig, "I thought you'd seen the light and become a hero."
"No, but if everything goes the way I want it to, then..." he said meaningfully. "By the way, Luc's energy seems to be affecting you too. Look at you, your greed has skyrocketed, you don't want to miss out on the source of your power. I'm so proud of you," and he shed a single tear.
"Come on," the dragon turned his face away demonstratively. "Isn't it time for you to wake up?"
"Yes, yes, I'm leaving," I said, disappearing under the red dragon's snorts.

As soon as I poked my head out, the girls' embrace tightened.
"Are you okay?" Shuri's whisper was full of concern, and her hand turned my face towards her.
"I'm fine," I took her hand in mine and kissed the back of it. "Just a bad dream."
"Won't you tell us?" Akeno joined in.
"You shouldn't worry, it was just a dream," I shook my head.
"I see." My sister looked sad and pressed herself closer to my side. "Verg," her voice was muffled by the blanket, "if... if you need help, any kind... just ask. I..." Her head appeared above the blanket, and her eyes found Shuri, who nodded a second later. "We'll do everything we can. Even more."
"If something is bothering you, don't keep it to yourself," her mother encouraged her.
"Ha-ha-ha," my short laugh makes them frown. "There's nothing that could be that serious." I pull them closer to me and kiss them on the top of their heads.
"And you don't need to know about the coming end of the world, Zvere, the raid on the Dark Lands and all that. That's not what I want for you," I say to myself, "You are all that holds me back. If, in your foolishness, you want to help and die in the process... My eyes turn golden for a moment. I don't even want to think about what would happen then."
"You understand that they are not satisfied with your answer. They have known you all your life and can see when you are lying. And if they can't see it, they can feel it, like now, the lie. It's the magic of female intuition," he whispered, "Tiamat herself remembers, as soon as I start talking to someone about how I defeated her and stole... appropriated... her trophies, she immediately knows where and when I said it. And she may be a dragon, but she's not my sister. And here you have your mother and sister, who know you like the back of their hand and can smell a lie a mile off."
"Let it be," I agree with him, "better they be angry at my omissions than go on a potentially dangerous mission for me. And that's not a lie, it's prioritising. I lecture the red one. "It's just not important right now, because we need an army, or something deadly and powerful that can defeat this dragon-like monster."
"But the only thing dragon-like about him is... A dragon... A snake... Verg, don't even think about it!" pleaded the red one. "No-o-o-o-o, I don't want to! Forget it, we'll find another way!" roared the proud dragon.
"Oh, yes. We'll call Samael to the party," my laughter drowned out the red dragon's roar. "His poison will help weaken Trikex for a while, so it's not up for discussion."
"Grr. Then I definitely don't agree with the second option. That creature is uncontrollable, and the method you're using is insane! Stupid! Dumb! Whoever came up with that is a dead man!"
"Come on, we're the dark side, cookies are our thing! No one can resist!"
"You're sick, partner, insane and sick."
"You gave in pretty quickly," I say suspiciously.
"This plan is nonsense and stupidity, but there's something to it. After all, the potential benefit is too great," sighed the dragon.
"I believed in you," I grinned from ear to ear. "So we need cookies." The cunning Jewish dragon inside me rubbed his paws together gleefully. "Mwahahaha!"
"Shh, ay!" I shuddered. "What's wrong?"
"Verg," Akeno's eyes fixed on me, "We're serious. Do you really think we can't tell when things are bad? You can't hide anything from us... from me."
I shudder, looking into my sister's unusually serious eyes. We're connected, aren't we?
"I'll tell you, but not now, not yet. Just know that it's not as bad as you think." I roll my eyes. "It's a problem for the distant future that has nothing to do with me." "At least you're being honest, because I'm not the one who's going to release the Beast." "Relax, don't you believe in your little brother's powers?""Hn," — I was scanned by that "female X-ray looking for the truth (the truth they need)" — "You're not saying everything," — "No way!" — But I'll back off for now. But I'll remember your words, you'll tell me everything, otherwise... — Her hand dropped lower and lower until...
"No, don't. — The tension in my body became enormous.
"You won't need it if you don't keep your word." My sister's eyes narrowed and flashed. Okay, playing scared is fun, of course, because I'm in an anime, and that's how it's done here: be afraid of girls who are way weaker than you, even gods are afraid of them.
"It's dear to me as a memory." I make my face look more indifferent. "To scare me, you need something more... much more terrifying."
"Tsk," my sister turns away, dissatisfied.
I look at my mother, who, as if out of nowhere, is supporting Akeno and looking at me disapprovingly. I roll my eyes and turn back to my sister.
"I'll tell you everything, not now, later. — "Preferably when it's all over, of course, but that's impossible. Damn it." — I'm not lying, you know that, Lucifer never lies. — I smile toothily at the girl who has rolled her eyes.
"Fine. Damn you." After thinking for a moment, the brunette agrees.
"And you, mum?" I ask the woman who has been silent until now, watching us with interest.
"I'll support you in everything and accept anyone. But don't lie, secrets won't do you any good in this case." The woman hugged us and kissed us on the forehead. "I won't abandon you.
Finally, they'll leave us alone, at least for a while, with all their questions.
"I don't want to break such a touching moment," Shuri said, looking away slightly, "But what's pressing against my leg?
"Oh. — I feign surprise as naturally as possible, "How is that possible? — even more naturally, without any emotion, "Why did that happen... It's mystical. — I look away.
Damn, with acting like that, I could have been cast in the lead role in Twilight. Bella. Oh, yes.
"As a specialist in mysticism," — Shuri raised her finger instructively, — "I must solve this truly serious problem." The woman began to slowly, as if mocking me, climb under the blanket. "Ara, ara, I can't do this alone."
"So we need a team," Akeno said calmly, creating a teleportation seal.
"Huh?" Reina turned around, stunned. "Eh, wh-wh-what?"
"Ara, ara...
***
"I'll remember your face at that moment forever," laughed Ddraig, looking through his memories of what had happened, even though more than a month had passed.
I was in one of my laboratories that Azazel didn't know about.
"Can you laugh a little quieter?" I grumbled discontentedly at the lizard.
"No, it's too good. Ha-ha. S-s-su... scaly thing.
This winged misunderstanding dared to laugh, to laugh naturally in my face, which was mine, as soon as I found out that Reynal would now be sleeping in the same bed with us. And as soon as my imagination conjured up a multitude of "pink" wet fantasies, I realised that they weren't going to happen. So, if anything, I'll be the one getting rejected, they don't play with each other... Except maybe Akeno and Shuri will kiss at most. "Okay," was my reaction, because I was tired of being surprised.
"Alright," the red one finally burst out, "how are the bodies for your new pawns?"
"Stable," I replied, scanning the body for the fallen loli. "They're growing at the right speed, no deviations. The genes aren't conflicting, soon, very soon they'll be able to get their shells. All that's left is to find the souls of dragons or powerful demons to increase their reserves and potential. Then we can perform the fusion ritual, during which we'll tweak their personalities a little, nothing serious, just shift their priorities in the direction I want.
"Heh, demon. The dragon doesn't seem to have anything against my methods. Excellent.
"Aren't the demons waiting for you?" the red one reminded me of my meeting with Rias.
"Yes, thank you. I'll add some nutrient solution saturated with magic and we'll go. — I pour it into the flasks where the forming shells of a couple of barrels of biomass are floating," — It's time.
Teleportation to the KON.
"Rias, the scarlet light of my eyes." I enter, flashing a dazzling smile. "How glad I am to see you."
"You haven't been to school for a month." The scarlet one grumbles discontentedly.
"I'm sorry, I'm sorry, you know why. — I twitch my cheek slightly, indicating that there's no point in talking about it. — Today, I'm all yours," — I play with my eyebrows, and Rias blushes at the hint, "— I'll help you with anything you want. Within reason. — I add after a second.
"Semp... Vergilius, you smell like blood," Koneko wrinkles her nose.
"Really? How awful. — I take out the cake. — I hope the smell of this will help you forget about it?
"... What a struggle is reflected in those eyes! Gods, it's just war and peace. "Okay." A quiet answer and the cake disappears from my hands, and a rustling sound begins to come from the side.
"Kiba. — I nod to the gloomy blond.
"Virgil. — God, we're so serious.
"Rias, let's go get your figure out of there. I'll train him. — The main thing is my motivation, and I'm motivated.
"Did your brother ask you to do this?" Gremory moaned. "What did he promise you?"
"Hehe, permission to hunt. — I stretch lazily," — Don't mind me, my problems.
"Hm." The redhead nodded discontentedly and got up to leave the office. "You can rest, we have a lot of orders today, so Vergilius and I will take care of the elephant." After receiving nods, we left.
The figure was two floors below, so it didn't take long to get there.
"What's up with the blond guy?" I ask at the door with the seal. "He was ready to eat me alive, even though he held back."
"You took away his chance to get revenge on Galileo, you didn't let him destroy Excalibur," Rias listed. "Do you think that's not enough?"
"Damn, he's so vengeful. Sasuke is on a minimal budget," I grimaced discontentedly. "It's annoying."
"What Sasuke?" Gremory asked in surprise, but receiving a "nothing special" gesture, she fell behind, rolling her eyes. "But you can understand him. Revenge was so close, so he's nervous.
"Make sure it doesn't backfire on him or you, Rias. — I put my hand on her shoulder and look into her eyes. — You need this more than anyone, because you're responsible for the physical and mental health of your toys.
"They're not toys..." Rias growled, looking into my eyes, but took a step back, pressing herself against the wall as soon as she saw my eyes shimmering with liquid gold.
"We both know who they are," I say, bringing my face close to hers, our noses barely touching. "You can hide your true emotions with whatever you want, but you can't escape the truth..."
"Verg," Ddraig began.
"All demons are like that, you, me, Sazex, Greifia, Beelzebub, and Leviathan..."
"Verg!"
"All of us. To them, we're," he waved his hand towards the office where her entourage was now resting, "toys, pawns that can protect their master. We're demons, Rias, you..." I touched her cheek with my palm, feeling her tremble.
"Verg, damn it!"
"... no matter how much you deny your nature, trying to behave like a human. You can't escape it. — Red veins began to flash in the gold. — But it's even interesting. I like your game of playing the good mistress. But show me your true self. Only to me. There is too little space between us, so my breath burns her skin, causing goosebumps, and her eyes look at me with panic.
"Verg! You left me no choice." The red begins to pound in my head, gradually increasing in strength so as not to damage her body.
"I like wearing the mask of a good guy too." — A strong mental blow. — R-r-r, ah!
I fall to my knees, clutching my head, and blood begins to flow from my eyes.
"Enough! Stop!" I yell at Ddraig.
"No, not enough, that junk hasn't worn off yet!" — what junk...
"Argh!" Blood starts flowing from my nose and ears, and the ringing in my head becomes unbearable.
"Verg? Vergilius?!" Rias comes to her senses and puts her hand on my shoulder with concern. "What's wrong? I'll call for help! Okay, brother? Greifia? Ah, damn it! Just a second."
The girl has already created a seal, but the magic I direct at her destroys the circle of connection, causing the red-haired girl to flinch.
"No. Don't. — I raised my eyes, the gold slowly fading from them, — It's over. I'm sorry. It came over me.
"What happened to you?" — Ha, so much concern for someone who said so much to her.
"The consequences," I exhaled. "A one-time thing. It probably won't happen again."
"You need help, you need to see a doctor." Rias looked at me anxiously, grabbing my elbow.
"No, don't. — Before I forget, I edit Azazel's tracking spell and then relax. — If you can, forgive me for what I said. — I get to my feet.
"What was that flash?
"I told you, the aftermath. — God, what a cocktail of emotions, and not a single negative one. It's even pleasant, damn it.
"Phew," I finally come to my senses after expending so much energy. "That was close. You're lucky you're with someone who won't make a fuss if you ask them to. You need to let off some steam, like Lucius said, and sex isn't going to help, as you can see. You need a fight, a battle, a slaughter, anything!"
"You're right, as soon as the summit is over, let's go to hell," the red one agreed easily. "Dragons, demons, anyone."
"Perfect," Ddraig relaxes completely.
"Let's forget about what happened, it's just the consequences of an experiment." I look into the blue depths of the demoness's eyes with my purple eyes. "Please don't talk about what happened here."
"Y-yes, if you ask me to." Rias blushes, but after a few seconds she catches herself, and a spark lights up in her eyes. "And as payment, we'll go on a date."
"Hmm," I chuckled, smiling, "deal. I gently kissed her soft lips. "I told you, today is only for you.
We're so red. Oh my, this is so sweet.
"There's the door," she decided to get down to business, hiding her embarrassment, "behind it is an elephant — Gasper Vlad. A dhampir and the owner of Oka Balor. You know what it can do."
"Yes. — Local time stop.
Only Ddraig knows how much strength it took me not to burst in here and destroy the artefact. But we could stage an accident...
"Bad Vergil!" the red one roared mockingly, "You can't weaken your allies."
"Go on, suitcase," I fire a lightning bolt at the dragon who didn't manage to dodge, "Try to make me laugh."
The door opens, revealing...
"For the sake of the Abyss! It can't be that bad!" I hiss irritably, seeing this... thing.
"Kya! Get away!" squeaked the dampir in a dress."Um," Rias blushed, pointing to my future ward or victim, I hadn't decided yet. "Here. This is Gasper, take care of him."
The awkward pause was truly awful.
"Kya, let go!" The trap wriggled in my grip.
"I'll make you into a... vampire... no, vampires suck, so a demon then. Yes, a demon. — I turned to Rias, "There's a week until the summit, during which I'll teach him the basics, and then he'll figure it out himself. As a bonus, just for you and for the sake of your sense of beauty, I'll fill his head with normal thoughts about clothing.
"Um... yes, thank you." The demoness looks anxiously at the ladder. "Will everything be all right?"
"Yes, yes," I nodded distractedly, "I'll cram them in, maybe even with my feet. We'll disappear for a couple of hours, then I'm all yours.
"What?!" But I and the cargo managed to teleport away. "Tsk," Gremory stamped her foot in dissatisfaction. "Asshole."
