Chapter 893: The Inception of War (6).
His lungs filled with air, Cain shot forward even faster.
A gust of wind enveloped his body, propelling hon forward even faster, until he was no more than a blitz.
A streak of light that cut through the world.
Magnificent and blinding.
The world was marked with darkness.
A terrible, wicked scourge.
And yet, with his blade.
And the hopes undying.
He could cut through it.
He had finally made this way across the land bridge.
A hwavy force smashed into his shoulder, forcing hin to stagger.
He groaned. Another slammed into his shin, the pain nearly forcing him to let out a loud cry.
A shrill crie resounded in his ears as an enormous Zombie came bounding towards him, its rotting face of full display.
Without wasting breath, he turned and punched forward, smashing its face in.
Putrid black blood splashed all over his armor, but he couldn't care less.
'It's not enough. Not yet.'
Before activating {Frost Temple}, he had to make sure he had as many Devils as possible within its effective radius.
At the edge of the chasms, there were just far too few Devils for it to be effective.
He huffed heavily.
That meant he would have to fight his way through, carving a bloody path.
He sucked in a deep breath.
"Damn it. I might be suicidal."
These Devils and {Zombies} weren't the same as before. As time went on, they could only grow more and more powerful unlike the humans, who will experience a decreased growth speed.
He raised his eyes to the sky.
The forlorn sky.
Dark, but bright at the same time. Alit like a flame, scorched with the color of blood.
He summoned {Eidwyrm}.
An enormous magic circle blossomed behind him before splitting into hundreds of smaller magic circles.
From each one, a star-tipped blade shot forth, flying at miraculous speeds.
The blade shot everywhere, in all directions, right at the approaching horde of {Zombies}.
Under the visor of his helmet, Cain grinned.
He tilted his body forward.
The world cracked open as his body went from zero to a hundred in a split second.
{Eidwyrm} immediately took on a deep, bloody glow, surrounded by swirling arcs of crimson lightning.
With a swing, he cut a {Zombie} right down in half. Blood and rotting guts rushed out violently as the two halves of the now very dead corpse fell to the ground.
The glow surrounding {Eidwyrm} seemed to intensify.
A moment later, he was gone, reappearing deeper above a patch of rabid Zombies. Upon noticing his appearance, they all reached up, their hands stretched as though paying reverence to a god.
And like a god, Cakn swung down with destructive might.
An explosion of bones, blood and pieces of flesh shot in all directions.
Now covered in black ichor, Cain turned into a twisted machine of carnage as he carved a path right through the zombies.
Normally, there should have been no way for a single man to resist the collective might of an entire army.
And that would have been right, years only through conventional means.
With the {Nexus Tether}, he could exchange places with any blade he had marked.
There were hundreds of them currently swimming in the air, shooting into the heads and necks of random Zombies, wrecking total chaos.
Because they were mindless, the Zombies had no choice and couldn't do much but be slaughtered in such a manner.
Even the more advanced Zombies were quickly reduced to victims.
Even the bullets of the Devils now found it hard to pin him down.
Cain let his mind soar as he lost himself in the slaughter.
He felt a trail of blood and death in his wake as he burrowed deeper and deeper into enemy territory.
The edge of {Eidwyrm} cut a thin line through the air. An undead hand headed for his throat was cut off at the elbow.
Unable to feel any pain, it lunged forward regardless, its teeth blackened with rot biting at Cain's armor.
Slamming his knee into the Zombie, Cain felt a sickening crunch as the creature that has once been human was broken right at its waist, organs and viscera spilling out.
It was unsightly.
With a grunt, Cain spun his blade in an arc, reaping three rotting heads at once.
The next moment, he stabbed his sword into the ground. A bullet struck the flat side of the blade a moment later, creating an explosion of corrosive green flames.
Cain clicked his tongue as he looked down at the sizzling metal of {Eidwyrm}.
He wasn't given any more time to contemplate it.
Using {Nexus Tether}, he found himself above a rather thick crowd of {Zombies}. Balls of fire, streams of acid, and wriggling tentacles all shot at him from every direction, slamming into his armor violently.
In retaliation, Cain dropped to the ground and began swinging wildly.
It was violence; raw, primal violence and chaos.
There was no technique to his swings. There was no rhythm either.
Only the intent to kill.
A brutal, visceral reaction to the scent of rotting blood.
Like a Demon whispering murder on his shoulders.
There was no hesitation in his swings. With a wild roar, his muscles bulged to the extreme as he slammed his blade into the ground.
Flames, crackling lightning surged from the ground, cracking it into bits.
Whatever {Zombies} had not been killed in his initial assault were torn into pieces.
A large clearing was made around him.
Finding a momentary respite, Cain tried to calm his heavy breathing.
He turned to the distance.
There, with his powerful eyes, he could see two Devils perched on a stone spire.
He grinned behind his helmet.
Lifting his {Eidwyrm}, he pointed it at them.
If was a taunt.
On the stone spire, Greotes' face was dark. Even darker than his pitch colored exoskeletal armor.
"He's slaughtering my army!" He growled.
He turned to Inixth, who had a strangely contemplative look on his face.
"How odd..." Inixth muttered to himself.
Then he stood up, an excited look on his face.
"This one looks interesting."
Greotes finally snapped,
"I don't care about your stupid inclinations, Inixth."
He turned and roared,
"Attack that human!"
Roars and screeches rose to the sky like dark prayers.
The sky turned black as thousands of {Sky Devils} soared into it.
The world became suffused with devilish miasma as hundreds of plague carrying {Miasma Devils} trudged forward, their grotesque limbs dragging across the ground.
The ground trembled under the tremors produced by the stampede.
Cain looked up.
It was like the apocalypse all over again.
He couldn't suppress a nervous chuckle.
This was by far the greatest horde of darkness he ever had the misfortune of witnessing. And it was headed straight for him.
Fangs and claws sharp like blades.
Twisted arms stretched forth, profane mouths muttering terrible curses and spells, all aimed at him.
To be the center of attention this was was quite the experience.
'Not yet...'
The spells and bullets were the first to arrive.
His feet sliding across the ground, he smoothly began dodging. Twirling around, he spun his sword and cutting a fireball in half.
Twisting his head, he dodged a bone spear, and a moment later, he rolled away from a bombardment of arrows.
The golden blades scattered everywhere began streaming towards him.
They swirled around him like blooming flower petals, deflecting and piercing through spells and projectile weapons.
Cain expended a huge amount of mana again, making even more. They spun around like the teeth of a gear.
"This won't last long." Cain muttered to himself.
The darkness came from every direction. Like an unbeatable tide.
'Not yet...'
He continued to endure, his mana draining in huge gulps as he struggled to sustain the cloud of blades about him.
The darkness drew closer, their snarls practically at his ears already.
His eyes widened and took on an unnatural tint.
"Now!"
From the depths of his being, at the center of his spirit, the gates to the {Mana Vault} slowly opened up.
Within it, a frozen star sat, slowly rotating about its frigid axis, frozen fractals revolving around it like moons.
It burned with an icy glare.
Taking a deep breath, Cain closed his eyes and pulled on all of it at once.
Simultaneously, he activated {Frost Temple}.
Silence...
A strange silence fell over everything.
Opening his eyes, Cain thought, for a moment, that he was the only thing that existed in the world.
That perspective was quickly shattered when he felt a horrid chill envelope his entire body, freezing him in place.
A soft, white robe of frost enveloped him, like the garbs of a priest.
And from behind him, a temple of solid ice rose from nothingness.
{Frost Temple} had Divine origins. In the hands of a divine being, its terror was devastating, simply because of the sheer extent and purity of their magic power and mana.
In this situation, Cain was able to pull off something similar with the power of the icy star.
A thick layer of frost spread out from the temple in all directions, stretching out in all directions, enveloping anything and everything.
Even the all-devouring Devil Essence was unable to abate its wicked bite.
With him as the center, a circle of frost enveloped an large portion of the Dark Army.
