Chapter 214: Interviewer
"No problem. Just clean up the scene"
Byakuya said calmly.
The investigators immediately got to work, removing the corpses of the ghouls and taking away a few severely injured ones that were still alive.
With that, the incident had finally come to an end.
While many civilians had been shaken by the attack, thankfully there were no casualties. People gradually regained their composure and resumed enjoying the beach.
After all, they had powerful protectors among them — like Byakuya, the Chairman of the TSC.
The group stayed at the beach until nightfall before finally deciding to head back.By the time they returned to Tokyo, it was already past 9 p.m.
They said their brief goodbyes and each went home to rest.
Though, before going to bed, Byakuya and Eto spent some time reviewing their notes.
The entrance exams for Kamii University were coming up soon, and both of them were confident they'd pass.
Kamii University's entrance exam wasn't just a written test — there was also an interview.
That was standard across most Japanese universities. The more prestigious the school, the more weight they placed on interviews.
First up was the written exam.
Byakuya, Eto, Minami, and Arima were all applying to Kamii, so they naturally came to take the test together.
After giving each other a quick pep talk, they entered the exam hall.
Compared to the national standardized test, Kamii's was definitely tougher — but not beyond their abilities.
Byakuya and Eto chose the liberal arts track, while Arima and Rika opted for science.
It made sense. Byakuya and Eto had always leaned toward creative writing and literature. Arima, on the other hand, had a natural aptitude for science — subjects like math came effortlessly to him.
Minami was strong in all subjects, so she could've chosen either. But since Arima picked the science track, she followed suit, especially since she found science interesting as well.
It didn't take long before all of them received news that they had passed the written portion.
Next up: interviews.
That day.
A certain Kamii University interviewer was under immense pressure.
Because the next candidates on her list were some truly high-profile individuals.
Their background information clearly listed all four of them as members of the TSC — Byakuya, Eto, Arima, and Minami.
The TSC was now a household name in Tokyo. Formerly known as the CCG, it had long been one of Japan's most prominent government agencies. Now, it had gone even further, pioneering human-ghoul cooperation within its ranks.
And after the widely publicized Tokyo Defense War, TSC had become a national—and even global—symbol.
If that weren't enough, these four weren't just any members of the TSC.
Byakuya, for one, was the Chairman — a position in Tokyo nearly equal to that of a Cabinet Minister.
Eto and Arima were among the TSC's elite combatants, holding the rank of Dragon Commander — the highest tier within TSC's military structure.
Even Minami, who technically held the lowest rank among them, was already a Candidate Dragon Commander.
Though Minami was originally just an A-rated ghoul, her growth had been astounding. She frequently trained with Arima and participated in the hunt and containment of Dragon Orphans.
It was now common knowledge that ghouls who consumed Dragon Orphans experienced boosts similar to cannibalistic ghouls.
Thanks to this, Minami had reached the level of a Half-Kakuja. In terms of raw power alone, she was more than qualified to be labeled a Dragon Commander.
However, the TSC had many powerful members with outstanding achievements. Minami still needed more time to solidify her standing before she could officially earn that title.
Not that she cared much. Titles meant little to her. What she truly desired was to live a peaceful life—like a human—and her reason for joining the TSC was to protect that peace.
Taking a deep breath and a long sip of water, the interviewer braced herself.
Because the next person she had to face… was none other than Byakuya.
Byakuya's interview went so smoothly, it made him wonder whether he was the one being interviewed—or if he'd somehow become the interviewer himself.
The interviewer treated him with extreme caution and formality, like she was walking on eggshells. She went through the motions and stamped his approval as quickly as possible.
If the rules hadn't required it, she probably would've just handed him the pass without a single question.
Then again, it made sense. His identity was quite overwhelming.
Eto, Arima, and Minami's interviews went just as smoothly.
"How'd it go? I'm guessing everyone passed without a hitch?"
Byakuya asked.
"Yeah. That interviewer looked so nervous, I actually started feeling embarrassed for her."
Minami said with a sheepish laugh.
"Well, what matters is that we're all in. Looks like we'll be schoolmates now."
Eto smiled brightly.
Of course, it wasn't time for the official enrollment just yet—but at this point, getting accepted into Kamii was basically a done deal.
With Kamii University already secured, there was no need to apply anywhere else.
They still had some time before the official start of the academic term.
So, to make good use of it, Byakuya and Eto decided to take another trip… to the Attack on Titan.
This time, Byakuya had prepared by stocking up on quinques, storing them inside his Kamui dimension. He'd taken them from the TSC's research facility, where many were sitting unused.
He brought a range —from B-rated all the way to S-rated quinques.
As for SS or SSS-class weapons, those were in short supply even within the TSC. And even if he brought them to the AoT world, people there wouldn't be able to handle them yet.
The ones he did bring were meant as gifts—for Eren, Mikasa, and select members of the Scout Regiment.
He wanted to empower those he could trust, giving the Eldians real weapons to fight the Titans.
And so, using the Kamui dimension once again, Byakuya and Eto returned—once more—to the world of Attack on Titan.
