Chapter 702: Choosing Rewards

Nestled in the exquisite wooden box, carved with a delicate yet complex series of arrays that worked together and lined with the silk of Mother Moon Spider, was a petal.

Not any ordinary piece of plant.

It was a peach-shaped, rose-colored petal that radiated soft, inner light, as though it was a star shimmering in the middle of the night.

Each delicate vein, traced with faint gold, pulsed with serene energy, calm and ancient.

Even with the barrier around the container, Noah could feel the extraordinary power contained within this little petal.

The vial did not stop the mild, sweet fragrance from wafting off the box.

But the most extraordinary thing about this petal was not how it looked or the amount of energy it had.

'What a pleasant surprise.' Noah thought as he closed the box with a click and stored it away. 'But this is not the only good thing present here.

Abbot Mu Lian saw Noah putting the petal away and got curious, wondering if he knew what the thing was and what it could be used for, but he resisted the urge to do so.

Knowing about it would do him no good besides making him feel a sense of regret in giving it away.

And his needs were nothing compared to what Noah did for his temple, and besides, he was a dead man walking; he had no use for any earthly things anymore.

"I never thought we would see treasures like these in this place." Elysia waved her feet in the air, lightly hitting Noah's chest with them. "I thought we would be going back empty-handed."

Just Noah picked up another wooden box from a different pile. Inside of it was a fruit, yellow-colored with a pale white stem coming out of the top and shaped like a pear.

Noah picked three more things from the pile, but most of the things he took were either precious herbs or some materials for forging.

But the last things he took belonged to neither of the categories.

It was a crystal-clear cup filled with dark ink fluid.

Noah raised it in the air, directly looking at it with his vertical eyes. His lips curled upwards before his eyes returned to normal, and he decided to put the thing away.

Since his back was towards the monk, he did not notice these changes.

He looked around one last time and threw a bunch of low- and medium-level spirit stones in his ring before finally turning towards the monk to leave. "Let's go back; I have already taken what I needed."

Abbot Mu Lian was shocked to see Noah, who had ignored the spirit stones from the start, now pick up the low-level ones instead of the high-grade stones.

And this mystery made him even more curious than what the things he took were.

"Are you not going to take anything else? There are plenty of high-rank spirit stones and even some peak-level ones as well." Not being able to suppress the urge, the monk coughed and asked with an uninterested look on his face, trying to act as if he did not care what he took and what he did not.

"Nah, I only needed some spare change." Noah waved his hands uncaringly and walked towards the exit without waiting for the bodiless old man.

His response almost made his soul trip in the air. Clicking his tongue, the old monk muttered, "Troubles of every rich man. What would I know? I am a mere monk; I have no worldly desires."

Trotting behind Noah, the two left the secret treasury before walking out of the girlish room.

As soon as they left the room, jade-like, smooth, white feet stretched out from behind the blinds in the room. The feet were as illusory as the monk's soul, but there was a tint of pink to them.

"That baldy had the guts to negotiate with my treasure; let these juniors leave and see how I deal with him." A melodic voice spoke with a deep, begrudging tone before fading into the air along with the figure they belonged to.

As the monk stepped into the secret room where he left the junior from his temple, a chill ran through his spine. The chill seeped deep into his soul spine.

"May Buddha save this poorless monk." Upon finding the source of the dread he was feeling, the old monk started praying for his soul.

"Hmm?" Noah looked back at the man curiously, but the old abbot forced an ugly smile in return.

"Looks like Xu Tianhua is starting to wake." He seemed to have found a way out as his eyes started shining when he saw the young monk groaning on the ground.

He flew towards the young man and waited for him to get up.

"Where am I?" A soft groan escaped his lips.

Xu Tianhua looked around, blinking wildly, when it suddenly dawned on him what had happened a while ago and why he was lying on the ground, looking like a piece of charcoal.

"Guess this little guy has some temper." His words were met with total silence from the saint relic.

But his ancestor scoffed and smacked him in the back of his head, "That would make you realize how to appreciate precious things."

"This poor monk understands." Xu Tianhua nodded obediently while glancing at the beads in his hands.

He did not say it outright, but he suddenly started feeling an urge to throw this thing away or give it back to Noah, fearing for his own life.

"What shall we do now, ancestor?" Washing up his appearance with a blob of water conjured with qi, Tianhua returned to his normal self.

"There is nothing left for you to gain in this place; you can leave the temple now and return to the outside world as the Domain is about to come to an end." The snappy old man persona of the monk vanished as soon as it came, and he returned to being the gentle old monk who was above worldly affairs and did not feel anger or any other impulsive emotions at all…

As if!
