Chapter 701: Ticket to Immortality
"This…" After holding a very reluctant artifact in his palm, Xu Tianhua watched it suddenly turn from golden shining beads to a very ordinary-looking praying bracelet that was made of wooden beads, carved from ordinary wood.
In fact, the bracelet Tianhua was using looked similar to the one in his hands right now. The ordinary praying beads that he has now thrown in his storage ring were given to him by the temple, just like every other disciple.
It was given to every disciple as a memento of the first abbot.
"Give it a while; the beads disdain you because you are weak." Noah smiled ambiguously and cleared the doubts in his mind. "As you grow stronger and your Dao heart grows firmer, it will be ready to recognize you as its master."
But even after hearing his words, the look of worry on his face did not ease a little. "If it does not recognize me and help when I need it, what is the point of even keeping this thing?"
Even though he was muttering to himself, Xu Tianhua's words were heard by everyone. Mu Lian almost spat out his soul energy in shock, nearly pulling out his illusionary beard that he had been stroking up and down.
In his anger, the old monk almost pulled out a sword to teach his rebellious junior what Buddha's mercifulness really means. But before he could act on his impulse, someone else beat him to it.
Crackleee—
The bracelet in his hands also heard what he said, and it did not seem to take his words lightly.
"Uh-oh!" Seeing flickers of electric arcs appearing around his palm, Xu Tianhua realized that he fucked up.
Bang!
The familiar feeling of being shocked ran through his body before Xu Tianhua's eyes rolled backwards and he fainted. Watching the charred "corpse" falling down on the ground, Noah noticed the beads crackling once more as if giving a silent warning.
But the boy was too unconscious to even see it.
Mu Lian was also looking at the junior from the sect he established with an impassive look on his face and murmured, "Deserved it."
Noah, who heard him clearly, sweat-dropped. He was not sure what kind of monks would even promote violence like this… If the monks on Long Tian's previous world were also like this, they might even pull out those little things called guns in the name of justice and mercy.
'May Buddha have mercy on the world— better not go there.' Noah shook the intrusive thoughts away and focused his attention on the older, more conscious monk. "So where is the treasury you were talking about?"
Mu Lian snapped toward Noah and 'ahh-ed' in realization. "Forgive this poor monk. Age tends to affect even the mightiest of souls."
'I am sure it was not the age.' Noah glanced at the unconscious boy and thought but did not dare to say it out loud. He nodded as the man led him out of the room through a back door.
They arrived at a very mundane room on the back side of the secret room they had just left and entered it. Noah realized that it was someone's personal bedroom, but it could not have been the monk's.
The reason? The room was decorated with things that only a woman would have. Things like the pearly mirror and the shimmering jewels on the dressing table—everything was a testament to this.
Noah glanced at the monk but did not care much about the reason why he would keep his treasury in this place, and Abbot Mu Lian also did not seem to be very keen on explaining what they were doing in the room.
Instead he walked up to the bed placed in the middle of the room and clasped his hands in a praying position before crouching down to lift it up; underneath the bed was a secret passage.
Seeing it, the corner of Noah's lips twitched, but even then he reluctantly followed behind the old man.
Thankfully, this time, there was no dark room full of dead people but a well-lit underground treasury filled with all kinds of rare relics and precious medicinal and non-medicinal herbs.
"Noah, we hit a jackpot." Suddenly a small, vague pixie fairy swooped out of Noah's body with her hands wide open and her big eyes blinking cutely. Noah quickly recognized her as Elyisa.
She had the same features as her original looks but a cuter and more pinchable face. The two deep blushes on her puffed cheeks drew Noah's gaze over and over again.
As she swirled around him with her fluttering wings, Noah noticed that the old monk did not seem to notice her presence, as if she was not even visible to him. Sneakily, Noah raised his finger and poked her little face to stop her from moving around.
Elysia collided with the tip of her fingers and wrapped her body around it to prevent herself from falling.
She looked at Noah with an aggrieved look on her cute, puffed face. Noah felt his chest filling with loads of sweetness, as if something warm had bloomed inside his heart.
A clear, affectionate smile appeared on his face when Elyisa swallowed the tip of his finger and bit it in 'anger.'
"Is it something that you like?" The monk seemed to have noticed Noah's unusual actions and asked in an elated tone. He thought Noah had noticed something that he needed or found to his desire.
Not even giving him a chance to reply, he followed where Noah's finger was pointed and got confused, "The ceiling?"
"Well, you can take anything or everything from this room. I am indebted to you for the favor you have done to my sect." Although confused, the monk immediately put on a flattering smile and moved to the side, giving Noah the space to choose freely. "If you want the ceiling, I will get it for you."
Noah ignored the tickling sensation in his fingers and rolled his eyes. He lowered his hands, and Elysia immediately let go of his finger that was now wet at the tip.
She flew up to his shoulder and sat down on it, increasing her size a little. Once she got slightly bigger than a foot, she stopped her growth and hugged Noah's head like a little girl.
"There is something that you might find of value." Elysia whispered in his hair while taking deep breaths of his scent.
Noah acted like there was nothing latched on to his body and hummed a little. Even without spreading his senses, he could sense the aura of the things present in the room, and a few of them stood out the most.
Without uttering anything, he walked past the huge heap of spirit stones and low-level treasures and walked towards a smaller pile of wooden and transparent jade boxes.
These were all the medicinal herbs in the room, stored to utmost perfection. Noah bent down and reached out for one of the boxes in the pile.
It was an exquisite wooden box, hand-carved to perfection; the subtle traces of arrays on the box caught Noah's attention. He traced his fingers on the faint cracks, and the arrays lit up to life.
Tier 7: Preservation array, and Tier 8: Energy confinement array. There is even a Tier 6: nourishment array!
Noah thought of the array names one by one. There were other arrays besides the three he thought of, but these were the main ones. 'Even if these arrays did not cause the herb inside to age with time without losing any energy, they would keep them in the peak state they were plucked out of the ground.'
Dismissing the arrays, Noah opened the box slowly; the moment he did, the arrays on the box blinked twice and faded, leaving a single red array on. A faint, veil-like shield appeared between the two open sides of the box, preventing any aura of the herb from leaking.
This was not something that was placed on the box; this array was personally applied on it by Noah. Despite the decent work done on the thing, it was not like Noah could not do better.
A golden light flashed from the herb and dispersed into the air. In the box, a very delicate, beautiful, and ethereal-looking peachy rose-colored petal was resting on a cushion-like surface.
From the back, Abbot Mu Lian could not contain his curiosity and floated sneakily towards Noah and looked over his shoulder.
"Ohh, this herb." As if recalling something, his eyes lit up in recognition, and he nodded and said, "When I was young and had just established the temple, I went on a journey and found this extraordinary thing. I sensed how extraordinary this thing was, but I never really found out what it was or could be used for."
Ignoring the monk narrating about how he created a place and threw away his responsibilities towards it in the air to roam around, Noah sent a message to Elysia: 'This is really a treasure, and also our... Ticket To Immortality!'
