Chapter 26: Chapter 26
"Is anyone there? Is anyone still alive?"
In the pouring rain, Xiangling shouted at the top of her lungs. Her fair thighs were now covered in mud as she desperately searched for survivors.
"Lu lu~"
Guoba followed closely by her side, but for some reason, it had a bad feeling.
It quickly tugged on Xiangling's clothes, trying to persuade her to slow down.
"What's wrong?" Xiangling looked down, but at that very moment, she heard a splashing sound.
Her heart skipped a beat, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw a strange, ball-like creature opening its mouth wide, aiming for her throat.
It was too close—there was no time to react!
Xiangling raised her spear to defend herself.
Although she was a chef and didn't specialize in martial arts, her spear techniques were taught by the adeptus.
But even adeptal techniques couldn't save her at such close range.
"Am I going to die? I haven't even tasted all the cuisines of the seven nations of Teyvat yet."
This was the only thought left in Xiangling's mind.
"Mii!"
But the next moment, a sharp screech came from behind her.
Then, a large cluster of vines suddenly sprouted from the ground, wrapping around the monster.
Although the vines weren't strong enough and snapped under the monster's immense strength, they bought Xiangling a brief moment to catch her breath.
"Witness the spear techniques of my master!"
Xiangling swung her spear, creating three dazzling arcs that left three holes in the monster's body.
Guoba, now fully alert, glared at the monster and began spewing flames from its mouth.
Remarkably, the flames weren't affected by the heavy rain at all.
With Guoba and Xiangling working together, the monster soon let out a final cry, collapsed to the ground, and dissolved into a puddle of water. A single drop of deep blue blood floated in the air.
"What is this?"
Xiangling frowned, immediately realizing that this flood might not be a natural disaster but a man-made catastrophe.
Woof!
Just then, a dog's bark came from the mountaintop.
Xiangling's heart skipped a beat, and she turned to see a strange, giant dog running down the hill, followed by several Millelith soldiers.
Seeing the Millelith, Xiangling finally breathed a sigh of relief. At least things hadn't reached the worst-case scenario.
"Herdier, slow down!"
Yan Bang chased after Herdier, struggling to keep his footing in the muddy terrain. He had no idea why Herdier had suddenly gone berserk and charged down the mountain.
"Someone's there! Hey, be careful! Don't move, and stay away from the water! Wait for me to come over!"
Yan Bang spotted Xiangling on the other side of the river and immediately understood Herdier's strange behavior. He waved his arms and shouted.
"Got it!"
Xiangling obediently moved away from the water and climbed to higher ground.
…
"Welcome, Yuheng Star. What can I get for you?"
Li Pan smiled as Keqing pushed open the door and walked in.
"Good morning, Boss Li. Landorus, I'll take another set of Electric-type Pokéblocks, please."
Keqing, full of energy, spoke to Li Pan as she entered.
Recently, her Shinx had suddenly evolved into Luxray, greatly increasing its strength. However, its appetite had also grown significantly.
The Pokéblocks that were supposed to last two months were quickly running out.
"Here you go, Yuheng Star. Please take care."
Li Pan packaged a box of Electric-type Pokéblocks and handed it to Keqing.
"Boss Li, you don't need to be so formal. Just call me Keqing from now on."
Keqing put away the Pokéblocks but didn't leave immediately. Instead, she struck up a conversation with Li Pan.
"Sure, then you can just call me Li Pan from now on."
Li Pan maintained his usual smile, his heart unshaken as he engaged in small talk with Keqing.
Seeing this, Keqing gritted her teeth. Why was this man so hard to read?
As the Yuheng Star of Liyue, a genius who had risen to the position at just seventeen, and a beauty to boot, Keqing was used to people reacting to her with awe, admiration, or even envy when she spoke formally.
Although Keqing didn't like using such methods, she had to admit they were effective.
But this time, the usually unflappable Keqing had hit a wall with Li Pan.
Undeterred, Keqing changed her approach.
"Li Pan, my Luxray just evolved, and its strength has skyrocketed. Could there be any side effects?"
Keqing asked, half-truthfully.
She was genuinely concerned about Luxray's health.
In Teyvat, whether it was Vision holders or ordinary people, becoming stronger required gradual progress.
Of course, the speed of progress varied, but the cycle of improvement generally remained consistent.
But Pokémon evolution was different.
After evolving, Luxray's strength had surged so dramatically that it made Keqing nervous.
Hearing this, Li Pan nodded understandingly.
Most Pokémon could easily surpass their pre-evolution selves after evolving, except for those oddities like Eviolite Chansey.
"Don't worry. This is a normal phenomenon for Pokémon. That's just how Pokémon are."
Hearing this, Keqing's worries finally eased. After spending so much time together, Keqing had already come to see Luxray as a partner she could trust with her life.
"Li Pan, Pokémon evolution is just too incredible so incredible that it doesn't seem like something from Teyvat."
The next moment, Keqing probed further. She had come with a mission: to confront Li Pan. But confrontation had its nuances, whoever revealed their hand first would be at a disadvantage.
Li Pan chuckled.
He was fully aware of her little game, but he refused to play along. Instead of engaging in a battle of wits, he decided to flip the table entirely.
"Oh, you mean that? Pokémon aren't actually from Teyvat."
Li Pan said with a look of sudden realization.
"Huh… What?!"
Hearing this, Keqing blinked, momentarily stunned.
In her mind, she had expected a long, drawn-out exchange where Li Pan would drag things out as much as possible, even if everyone in Liyue already knew Pokémon weren't native to Teyvat.
But who could've guessed this man would just flip the table without warning?
"Of course, Pokémon aren't native to Teyvat. In fact, I'm also from another world, tasked by certain entities to popularize Pokémon in Teyvat."
Keqing frowned and asked in a low voice, "Will it harm Teyvat?"
This was what she and Ningguang feared the most.
Li Pan thought for a moment. "Saying it's completely harmless would be a lie, but overall, the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. At the very least, it can bridge the gap between Vision holders and ordinary people."
Keqing nodded, her expression serious. She had already seen the benefits of Pokémon. If every person in Liyue could have a Pokémon, the advantages for the nation would be immeasurable.
But at the same time, there would inevitably be those who used Pokémon for crime. Pokémon were pure-hearted; their actions depended entirely on their trainers.
Keqing could already foresee a future where Pokémon related crimes would be rampant.
It was unavoidable. What they could do now was establish a series of laws before Pokémon became widespread.
