Chapter 24: Chapter 24
"It's called Tyrunt, a Rock and Dragon-type Pokémon," Zhongli said calmly.
Hu Tao squinted her crescent-shaped eyes as she examined Tyrunt, finally concluding, "It's not as cute as my Litwick. My Litwick is definitely the cutest."
With that, she picked up Litwick and rubbed her face against it.
"Lit~"
Litwick carefully controlled the flames on its head, ensuring they wouldn't burn Hu Tao's face.
"Roar!"
Tyrunt looked at Litwick with disdain. What use was cuteness? It was just a pretty face. In this world, strength was what truly mattered!
As the Royal Heir Pokémon, and with its evolution, Tyrantrum, having once ruled the ancient world, Tyrunt had its own unique understanding of the world.
"Lit!"
Litwick understood Tyrunt's expression, and a # symbol appeared on its forehead. It jumped next to Tyrunt, waving its short arms as if arguing.
Tyrunt, however, just looked at Litwick and smirked mockingly.
This made Litwick even angrier. It threw itself into Hu Tao's arms, tears welling up in its eyes as it glared at Tyrunt.
"Litwick, are you saying you want to battle Tyrunt?"
As the director of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, Hu Tao naturally had secret techniques to communicate with spirits. Through her experiments, she found that while she couldn't fully understand Ghost-type Pokémon, she could grasp their basic intentions.
"Lit, lit!"
Litwick nodded vigorously. It wanted to prove itself!
Hearing this, Hu Tao grinned mischievously, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Zhongli.
"Zhongli, what do you think? How about a Pokémon battle?"
Hu Tao clasped her hands behind her back, leaning forward with her starry eyes twinkling.
She had tried many times to tease Zhongli in the past, but she had never succeeded. His strength was too terrifying. In fact, Hu Tao suspected that he was, without a doubt, an adeptus—she just didn't know his adeptal name.
This time, however, she had come up with a new idea, one that could allow her to defeat Zhongli head-on.
A Pokémon battle.
This was a completely new field, one that depended on the strength of the Pokémon, not their own power.
Zhongli's Tyrunt had just been acquired, while her Litwick had been training for several days. There was no way she could lose, right?
"A Pokémon battle… From a rational perspective, that is indeed a good suggestion."
Zhongli stroked his chin and agreed to Hu Tao's idea. He also wanted to see just how far Pokémon could go.
"Hehe, let's go, to the courtyard."
Hu Tao chuckled, her face wearing the triumphant smile of a cat that had just stolen a fish.
…
The Wangsheng Funeral Parlor was particularly lively today.
A couple of days ago, Director Hu had brought back a candle-like ghost from somewhere, claiming it would now be the symbol of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor.
At first, everyone in the funeral parlor was too scared to approach it. After all, it was a real ghost—who wouldn't be frightened?
But after a few days of interaction, they found the little creature to be quite endearing.
When given snacks, it would bow in thanks, and when its cheeks were gently rubbed, it would blush shyly.
From Director Hu, they learned that this little creature was called Litwick, a type of creature known as a Pokémon, purchased from Pokémon Home.
These Pokémon were not only intelligent but could also wield elemental powers and had high potential. Of course, they didn't quite believe this, thinking it was just Director Hu's usual boasting.
But today, Mr. Zhongli, the consultant of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor, had also brought back a Pokémon. Unlike Director Hu's, Mr. Zhongli's Pokémon was a strange, bipedal creature with a large mouth.
The staff of the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor knew Mr. Zhongli all too well. While he was known for his extravagant spending habits and his tendency to send bills back to the funeral parlor, his knowledge and insight were unparalleled in Liyue Harbor.
Moreover, the things he bought, though expensive, were always worth far more than their price—without exception.
Now, even Mr. Zhongli had bought a Pokémon.
This made them start to wonder if they should also consider buying one.
After all, according to Director Hu, buying a Pokémon was definitely a good deal.
And just then, Director Hu had challenged Mr. Zhongli to a Pokémon battle, capturing the attention of everyone in the funeral parlor.
The courtyard was packed with people, leaving only a large open space in the center. Zhongli and Hu Tao stood facing each other, with Tyrunt and Litwick at their feet. When their gazes met, the onlookers could almost smell the tension in the air.
"Director Hu, shall we begin?"
Zhongli, with his arms crossed, asked Hu Tao.
"Sure! Litwick, use Ember on Tyrunt!"
As soon as she finished speaking, Hu Tao waved her hand and shouted.
She was shamelessly ambushing a six-thousand-year-old Geo Archon.
At her feet, Litwick took a deep breath, its little face turning red. Then, it opened its mouth, and a flurry of sparks, like dancing butterflies, shot toward Tyrunt.
"Tyrunt, take two steps to the right, open your mouth, and stand by!"
