Chapter 18: Chapter 18: The Blood of Chi Transforms (Part 1)
"Something's there! Stay alert!"
In an instant, the Millelith soldiers held their breath, raising their white-tasseled spears and cautiously staring into the dark cave ahead.
Lillipup's performance over the past few days had completely won them over, and they had no doubt about its judgment.
But after a while, there was still no movement from within the cave.
After waiting for a bit longer and seeing no activity, a slick-looking Millelith soldier with a greasy face and powdered skin chuckled and put away his spear.
He slung an arm around Yan Bang's shoulder.
Hanging from his waist was a plaque engraved with the name "Fu Bin." This was his identification.
The Millelith often carried out dangerous missions, and sometimes, not even their bodies could be found.
This plaque was the only proof of their identity.
"Bang, you're too nervous. Lillipup's just a dog. Dogs get scared like this all the time. Let's finish patrolling here and head back. Qingce Village is like heaven compared to Liyue Harbor. Hey, guys, I heard the Pearl Galley recently got a new girl. She's absolutely stunning, but unfortunately, she only sells her art, not her body. No big deal, though. When we get back, I'll treat you all to a night at the Pearl Galley."
His words caught the attention of the other team members, who laughed and responded. Although their families had some money, going to a place like the Pearl Galley was still out of their reach.
Yan Bang, however, ignored their chatter. Instead, he frowned, still observing Lillipup, which remained in the same state.
As Lillipup's partner, he knew that Lillipup would occasionally get startled by things, but it had never been like this before.
He looked up, carefully scanning the surroundings. The environment was the same as when they had entered, with no changes except for a faint, sweet, metallic scent wafting through the cave.
Wait… a sweet, metallic scent?!
Yan Bang's eyes widened, and he shouted at the top of his lungs, "Run!"
But it was already too late.
The sweet, metallic scent grew stronger and more chaotic.
At the same time, the cave walls began to tremble, and the stones on the ground started to bounce.
Something deep within the cave was approaching at a terrifying speed!
From a distance, they could see a blue light flickering in the depths of the cave, growing larger and larger.
Yan Bang grabbed his comrades, trying to get them to flee quickly.
But in the next moment, the blue light was right in front of them.
Now, they could see what it was.
It was a creature with a dragon's head but no horns.
Its body was nearly three meters long, with a bloated belly, and it crawled on the ground like a lizard.
Its body was covered in crystal-like blue scales, and its piercing blue vertical eyes seemed to radiate malice.
"A dragon without horns, with a belly like a sack… This… this is Chi! The evil Chi that the Geo Archon split and sealed beneath Qingce Village!"
One of the team members, who knew the history of Qingce Village, let out a wail of despair.
Although this Chi's size was different from the records, it was still a beast from myth.
Even the Geo Archon could only split its body and seal it away.
There was no way they, mere Millelith soldiers without Visions, could stand against it.
"Get out of here!"
Yan Bang shouted urgently, but it was too late. The evil Chi from the depths of the cave had already spotted them.
In an instant, its massive body surged forward like a tidal wave, and the water beneath it rose, crashing toward them like a tsunami.
Elemental energy had condensed into a tangible tide!
Facing such a beast, Yan Bang felt as if his legs were rooted to the ground, unable to move.
Every cell in his body screamed at him to flee, but he couldn't move. It was as if he had lost control of his body.
Just then, a trembling figure stepped in front of him.
It was Fu Bin, the slick-looking soldier!
He raised his white-tasseled spear, his body shaking, but he stood firm like a mountain, blocking their path.
"Fu Bin, what are you doing? If you can move, get out of here!"
Yan Bang couldn't help but roar.
Fu Bin was the youngest in their squad, only 19 years old.
His family was supposedly part of some big merchant guild, and they had sent him to the Millelith to toughen him up.
The kid didn't have the usual spoiled brat attitude.
Although he slacked off during training, he was a good person overall. Because of his age, the team treated him like a younger brother.
So, when Fu Bin stepped in front of him, Yan Bang's heart clenched.
The gap between a monster and an ordinary human was like the difference between heaven and earth!
"Huff… Bang, how can I retreat? If this thing gets out, who knows how many people in Qingce Village will die."
Fu Bin took deep breaths, his voice calm.
After a long pause, he shouted, "The Millelith stands firm, unyielding as the mountains. Armored as the city walls, we vanquish evil!"
The ancient battle cry of the Millelith from the Archon War echoed through the dim cave.
And this young Millelith soldier was facing a beast that commanded the tides!
The tide was upon them in an instant.
They could even see the evil Chi standing atop the water, a cold smile on its face.
But facing the tide that filled the entire cave, Fu Bin instead calmed down.
His sharp eyes locked onto the beast riding the waves, his feet planted like boulders, his white-tasseled spear aimed at the beast's head.
"Hehehe…"
A cold laugh reached their ears, coming from the evil Chi.
"Come on!"
Fu Bin roared, his frail body like wild grass facing a storm.
Closer!
The first wave was upon them!
The tide slammed into Fu Bin, and a crisp sound echoed through the cave. Fu Bin felt his body grow warm, then cold, as the rushing water carried away his heat.
Underwater, Fu Bin clenched his teeth and opened his eyes, trying to find the evil Chi. But he saw the beast standing on the water, its malicious eyes filled with mockery.
It wasn't planning to attack directly!
Is this the power of elemental energy?
A strong sense of defeat washed over him.
Just then, a white-tasseled spear thrust toward the evil Chi's head.
The Chi was startled and quickly manipulated the water to raise itself higher. Fu Bin looked over and saw it was Yan Bang!
He had managed to get close to the Chi, but unfortunately, he failed.
A wave crashed down, engulfing him.
"Damn it, I didn't kill that thing!"
Yan Bang glared at the Chi from underwater. He now understood that this thing couldn't be the Chi sealed by the Geo Archon—at least not the same one. Otherwise, it wouldn't have dodged his attack.
Although he didn't know what this thing was, it was a shame he hadn't killed it.
His consciousness began to fade, slipping away like the warmth in his body.
Woof!
Just then, a familiar bark faintly reached Yan Bang's ears.
He struggled to open his eyes underwater and saw a white light crashing into the evil Chi.
