Chapter 12: The Forest King’s Wrath
The boar monster finally emerged from the thick forest, its massive frame towering over the students. It was seven meters tall, with three jagged horns protruding from its face and coarse, spiked fur bristling with every movement. The creature's crimson eyes burned with primal rage as it surveyed the students before it.
Aiden and Atlas locked eyes for a moment, silently agreeing to a truce. "We're classmates before anything else," Atlas said, stepping forward.
Aiden gave a curt nod. "Agreed."
The two teams regrouped, standing together as they faced the massive threat. Before the boar monster could attack, Luna and Elena acted swiftly. Luna extended her hands, dark tendrils of shadow magic erupting from the ground to entangle the creature's legs. "Shadow Entanglement!" she called out, her voice steady despite the tension.
Elena followed immediately, her hands crackling with electric energy. She hurled a bolt of lightning at the boar, striking it squarely in the chest. The monster roared in pain, its massive frame shuddering as sparks danced across its hide. "Keep it contained!" Elena shouted.
Atlas stepped forward, flames igniting around his sword. With a fluid motion, he conjured a fiery aura that engulfed the blade. "Flame Slash!" he roared, charging at the monster. His sword cut into the creature's side, leaving a shallow wound. The hide was thick, much tougher than they anticipated.
As the monster thrashed, attempting to break free, Aiden knelt and touched the ground. "Overhaul!" he muttered, his eyes glowing faintly. The earth shifted beneath the boar, sinking its feet deeper into the ground. The creature roared, struggling against the combined effects of the magic and Aiden's ability.
"It's not enough!" Atlas called out, retreating briefly. "We need to hit harder!"
The students launched another series of attacks, their combined efforts creating explosions and shockwaves that reverberated through the forest. Despite their best efforts, the boar refused to fall. With a guttural growl, it slammed its tusks into the ground, sending tremors rippling outward. The earth beneath the students' feet cracked in a spiderweb pattern, throwing them off balance.
Luna lost control of her shadow magic, the tendrils dissipating. "It's breaking free!" she shouted as the monster roared, shaking off its bindings entirely.
Now unrestrained, the boar's fury erupted. It slammed its tusks into the ground again, unleashing a powerful arc of wind that tore through the clearing. The deadly wave hurtled toward Luna and Elena, who were too disoriented to react in time.
Aiden's eyes widened. "Damn it!" Without hesitation, he touched the ground and activated Overhaul. The earth beneath him shifted and propelled him forward like a missile. In a blur, he reached Elena and Luna just as the wind arc was about to strike. He grabbed them both and launched himself sideways, narrowly avoiding the attack.
The area where they had stood was obliterated. Trees were uprooted, the ground gouged out in a massive scar. Dust and debris filled the air, a stark reminder of the boar's destructive power.
Elena's heart pounded as she looked up at Aiden. Her cheeks flushed, and she quickly averted her gaze. "Th-thank you," she stammered.
Luna, ever composed, gave a small nod. "You have my thanks as well."
Aiden brushed off their gratitude, his focus still on the monster. "Just stay back and focus on support. I'll handle the frontlines for now." He stood and cracked his neck, his expression firm.
Elena's eyes lingered on him for a moment before she nodded, determination returning to her face. "Be careful."
As Aiden approached the boar again, Atlas moved to his side. "We'll have to coordinate if we're going to take it down," Atlas said, tightening his grip on his sword.
"Agreed," Aiden replied. "You go high; I'll keep it grounded."
Atlas nodded and leapt into the air, flames flaring around him as he prepared another attack. "Flame Spiral!" he shouted, spinning in mid-air and sending a wave of fire down at the boar. The flames engulfed the creature's back, scorching its thick hide, but the monster barely flinched.
While Atlas kept its attention above, Aiden crouched and slammed his hands into the ground. The earth shifted again, forming jagged spikes that erupted beneath the boar's feet. The monster roared, raising one massive hoof to crush the spikes, but the distraction gave the others an opening.
Elena raised her hands, conjuring a powerful wind spell. "Tempest Lance!" she cried, sending a spiraling blast of wind at the boar. The force of the attack pushed the creature back slightly, its hooves skidding against the ground.
Luna followed up with her own attack, her shadow magic coalescing into a spear-like form. "Obsidian Javelin!" she called out, hurling the dark projectile at the monster's chest. The javelin struck true, but it shattered against the boar's hide, leaving only a faint mark.
"Damn, its defense is insane!" Atlas shouted as he landed beside Aiden.
Aiden gritted his teeth, his mind racing. "We need to target its legs. Bring it down so we can go for the kill."
"Got it," Atlas said, charging forward again. This time, he aimed lower, his flame-infused blade slashing at the boar's front leg. The monster roared, the wound deeper than before but still not enough to cripple it.
The boar retaliated, swinging its massive head and horns at Atlas. He barely managed to dodge, the force of the swing creating a gust of wind that sent him stumbling.
Seizing the opportunity, Aiden sprinted toward the creature, his Overhaul ability reshaping the ground beneath him into a ramp. He launched himself into the air, a jagged stone spear forming in his hands. With a roar, he hurled the spear at the boar's eye. The creature shifted at the last second, the spear grazing its face instead.
The boar roared in fury, its crimson eyes glowing even brighter. It stomped the ground again, sending another tremor through the area. The students struggled to maintain their footing, but they refused to back down.
"This thing isn't going down easily," Aiden muttered, his breathing heavy. "But we're not done yet."
The battle raged on, the students working together to exploit every opening they could find. Each attack brought them closer to victory, but the Forest King's wrath was far from spent.
