Chapter 16: Battle Thoughts and Reflections
Chapter 16: Battle Thoughts and Reflections
Seeing the Squad kill the murloc BOSS, Leon, who was still on the high cliff platform, had no intention of going down to join them.
At this moment, Leon was sitting on the high platform, recalling every detail of the previous battle.
From the battle just now, it was clear that the murloc BOSS’s strength far surpassed the combined power of the four of them. As long as there was even the slightest misstep in their coordination, or any small mistake, the murloc BOSS could have easily taken all their lives.
However, the Squad managed to pull through by relying on an unexpected level of coordination. During the fight, everyone exhibited abilities that went beyond their class or the standard roles expected in this dungeon.
For instance, the thief had completely taken on the role of the main tank in this battle. All of the murloc BOSS’s attacks on the platform were drawn to him, and he managed to dodge them one by one.
The druid, on the other hand, acted as the underwater DPS. Without his full-force attacks, relying solely on the attacks from the platform would have made it impossible to tell how long this battle would have dragged on.
As for the hunter and the shaman, they both demonstrated their abilities as well. Many of the murloc BOSS’s attacks were preemptively disrupted by the hunter’s arrows.
Meanwhile, the shaman played a key role in both defense and control at the critical moments. He performed to the absolute limits of normal capability, especially with the full-scale platform defense. If it hadn’t been for him, the murloc BOSS might have turned the tide during its berserk phase.
From the coordination of these four, it was evident that while a lone wolf might survive easily in the game’s open world, teamwork was essential in a dungeon like this.
Each player must have a specific role. The “jack of all trades” approach was not feasible, at least not in the early stages when a player’s power was still low. Each person must make choices based on their profession and specialization.
While Leon was pondering these things, the thief had already approached the platform nearby. He stood at the edge of the cliff, looking at Leon, smiling as he asked, “What’s the matter? Afraid to come down? We’ve cleared all the monsters along the way, so you won’t run into any enemies if you come down.”
“No.” Leon shook his head and stood up. “I’m thinking about the path ahead. No matter what, I can’t solo dungeons in the beginning. So, when I cooperate with my teammates, I need to consider what role I should take. It’s something that requires thought.”
The thief laughed heartily. “You’re overthinking it. Your role isn’t something you choose; it’s determined by the class you pick at Lv1. Thinking about it now is just overcomplicating things. Besides, overthinking it might influence your class selection later, and that could lead to some negative effects.”
As they talked, the two descended the cliff. Since there were no monsters to block their way, they quickly entered the murloc village.
By this time, the Squad had already dragged the murloc BOSS’s corpse onto the platform. Seeing Leon come in, the hunter shouted, “Alright! Everything in this village is yours now. You handle it.”
Uh, Leon was stunned. He glanced around and realized that the murloc village wasn’t as small as it looked from the high platform. At least thirty houses stood scattered along the water’s edge. Inside most of these houses lay the corpses of murlocs, more or less.
The Squad, being quite considerate, had piled these corpses together, waiting for Leon to handle them.
Seeing Leon’s dazed expression, the shaman, who had a relatively good relationship with him, laughed as well. “Don’t worry. We’re staying here for the night, so you’ve got plenty of time to clean up. By the way, the quest [Stolen Goods] is completed here. See those boxes over there? They’re the ones you need for the quest.”
“If I were you, I’d collect the quest items first, then deal with the BOSS’s corpse, and finally handle the ones in the houses,” the druid suggested.
The hunter chimed in at this point. “Also, when you’re handling these corpses, think about whether you want to keep the murloc corpses or the corpses from tomorrow’s monsters. The hidden BOSS requires a large amount of flesh as offerings, and the corpses processed by necromancers can’t be used.”
“Uh…” Leon hesitated. “Is there a difference?”
“The levels are about the same, but these corpses are uniformly murloc bodies. The next wave of small monsters comes from the research facility, so their corpses could be more diverse. You might get some good stuff, or you might end up with ordinary quality.” The hunter thought for a moment and explained.
Leon seriously considered the question and finally said, “I’ll go with the next wave’s corpses and see what my luck brings.”
The hunter casually nodded, while the shaman had already pulled Leon aside and whispered, “Good choice. If you had picked the murloc corpses, there’d be so much to deal with today.”
“So much to deal with?” Leon glanced at the murloc village in confusion. His eyes quickly fell on the houses. “Are you talking about the building materials of these houses?”
“This…” The shaman was also stunned. “I hadn’t even thought of that. I was talking about the decorations inside the houses. If you search well, you might find some Lv1 green items. I didn’t expect you to think so far ahead.”
“It’s just different professions, I guess. As a shaman, you probably think more about totems, while he’s likely headed for a lord-type profession in the future, so he’s thinking about building materials.” The hunter interjected.
The druid nodded along. “Exactly. When I see these houses, all I think about is dismantling them to use the leaves and water plants to make leather armor.”
The thief, meanwhile, just smiled quietly but was clearly listening in.
Amidst the laughter and conversation, Leon opened all the boxes on the platform. Inside was a pile of things he couldn’t quite make sense of, but Leon knew that this was a quest protection mechanism, designed to prevent quest items from being stolen by the quest holder.
No matter the player’s level, they would have an independent quest space to store quest items to prevent them from being destroyed if they lacked storage space. So as long as the quest items were found, they could always be taken.
It was the same this time. Leon waved his hand over the boxes, and all the massive crates were stored away.
Only then did he turn his attention to the murloc BOSS on the platform. Compared to the previous hyena BOSS, this murloc BOSS had a different combat style and modification process. As a result, the two items it dropped finally included one that could be used by magic users.
However, this “finally” didn’t apply to Leon. This time, the gear that dropped still wasn’t something he could use.
