Chapter 110: Chapter 110 - Braavos.
[Chapter Size: 2300 Words.]
Third Person POV.
Beyond of the Wall.
...
...
"Keep them locked up, but no one is to touch them and serve them food. If anyone has a problem with that, come to me then." Jon challenged as he ordered the men of the Night's Watch to be safeguarded, while asking everyone to organize their things.
He headed to his tent with the rest of his men packing up, while Jon greeted people as he passed by their tents.
Jon found Lucis and Daenerys waiting for him, and greeted them as he entered the tent.
"I won't stay long, I'll have to take a trip." Jon was direct, surprising them a bit.
"What do you mean?" Lucis asked, surprised.
"I'll have to go to Braavos and you're coming with me." He said, looking at Daenerys, surprised.
"Me?" She asked.
"Yes, we'll have to convince the Iron Bank not to fund our enemies, but that's not a particular problem, after all we'll win anyway." Jon said calmly, and continued.
"I want their network of contacts, winter is coming and we need food. The south is already at war and things aren't going well in Riverrun, and the Tyrells will have the most valuable item. I don't want to depend on them after what I heard about Olenna Tyrell, that old woman is treacherous and they also share the blame in the fall of the Targaryens." He said.
"Why do you need to take me?" Daenerys asked, still confused.
"I'm a Targaryen terrorizing the Seven Kingdoms, I'm sure they might be more agreeable if we have a pure Targaryen beauty." Jon said with a smile — in truth, he wanted to take her so she could learn, as he hated politics.
"Alright... I guess..." She murmured, though she didn't dislike Jon's compliment.
"I'll speak with Mance one more time. We'll stay only a few days in Braavos before heading to the Wall." Jon said.
He left the tent after setting something for them to eat that night, and Jon had a meeting with Mance, who would once again lead the camp.
"So we're leaving... soon." Mance said, looking at Jon.
"Yes, it's time to begin marching south. We can't stay here any longer, the army of the dead is moving now and the North has soldiers in the south, so we can't go after any lost tribes in the region like we were doing. They'll have to fend for themselves now. We need to sort out some issues with food and even equipment. It'll be a good opportunity to spend some of the wealth I managed to steal from the great southern houses and the Citadel, to trade for those things in Braavos." Jon commented.
"I see... I heard about the rangers... Your uncle is among the prisoners. You know he might try to kill you, right?" Mance asked, showing a bit of concern — even with family.
But that was Mance's opinion, not what would actually happen.
"My uncle clearly can't see me in a good light with what I'm about to do, and at the same time he must blame my other uncle for what happened. But it doesn't matter." Jon said — besides, Benjen and no one here could truly pose any danger to him.
"I see... then I wish you good luck. Aren't you going to hold a meeting?" Mance asked.
"No, you can tell the other leaders. I'll be gone just a few days, maybe a week, I don't know. Either way, bring your wife and son to my tent tonight." Jon said and took his leave, heading back to prepare something for himself to eat.
Mance came with Della to have lunch in the tent, eating good meat, fruits, and excellent wine, while in the morning, Jon set off with Daenerys toward Winter, waiting for him.
"I'm gone for a few days and you already fill this place with food scraps, it stinks." Jon complained while the dragon seemed to shrug at Jon's complaint.
Jon climbed onto Winter and Daenerys came right after, as they began to fly, leaving the camp behind.
It wasn't the first time they flew since Jon brought Daenerys. She had personally asked a few times, and he never saw a problem with it when he was free, taking her to fly through the northern skies, seeing only snow-covered vegetation and mountains while avoiding snowstorms that often formed in the region, which was quite common.
Winter flew for an hour until they finally reached the Wall, passing over it unnoticed in the sky, and cut across Skagos as their goal was the northwestern tip of Essos.
Daenerys was the one who enjoyed the ride the most.
"It's getting hot..." she murmured, wearing her fur clothing used by the free folk to adapt to the cold.
"Hold on a bit longer, we're just an hour and a half from Braavos." He said, knowing the wind could ease the warm feeling, while they were flying alone in the middle of nowhere, in the center of the ocean, and Jon brought Winter down to fly closer to the water.
Leaving a trail behind him and an incredible feeling for the girl who seemed to be living a dream flying there.
When the first ships were spotted, Jon knew he had to ascend as Winter began flapping its wings upward, vanishing from the ships' view and becoming a swift cloud in the sky again.
Braavos was finally seen after that as they headed to a place that wouldn't draw attention, after passing over the entire city, spotting some vegetation five kilometers from town.
"It's too far, we'll stay here until dawn, bring Eragon closer to the city at nightfall while we go into the city and she stays here guarding us." Jon said, wishing he had learned the spectral horse spell in moments like these, but it was a very rare magic even for a conjuration master like him.
So they stayed there, while Jon took out some armchairs and books, with Daenerys grabbing a few and eating the fruits Jon had brought along.
"Can you tell me more about your life in Skyrim?" Daenerys asked a few moments later, since they had to wait for a while.
"Of course, what do you want to know, aunt?" Jon said, taking the book from his eyes and looking at her.
"You said you left it behind to come here... but wasn't that bad? Like, weren't you titled as a hero on the continent, having contacts even with the highest powers, lands, riches, and even love?" She asked. It was something she had always wanted to know, but never asked directly. Maybe now she found the courage to ask, after all, she had heard it from the other women when they talked, but never from Jon himself — and she wanted to hear it from him.
Jon gave a sad smile.
"You're right about everything. But Skyrim... how can I say, it was a part of my life, not my real home. I had a debt to collect here and decided to come... I can't say it was an easy decision..." he said.
"I had many friends, some lovers, and many adventures. Now it's all behind... my goal is to move forward, just keeping their memories. But I don't regret this decision. If I hadn't come back and found out what was happening here, I would surely curse myself." He said, giving a more peaceful smile.
"I'm glad you came back, Jon... Even if it's selfish, I'm still happy, because I wouldn't know what my fate would be..." she said, watching to see if he would be offended, but he wasn't.
"It's all right, I'm here now, and that's all that matters. Tonight we'll enter Braavos and we'll begin our plans starting tomorrow." He said as she nodded.
"Also, you said your mother's crown was sold when you and your brother were thrown out of your home, right?" He asked suddenly.
"Yes..." she replied sadly.
"I see..." he nodded, keeping some thoughts to himself.
In the end, they stayed there all day, until night finally fell. They mounted Winter again as Daenerys was forced to put on her fur coat once more due to the night wind, and they flew for only one minute before getting close to the city.
With no one able to see them due to the darkness, Winter returned to the spot where they had been as soon as they left the dragon, beginning to advance toward the city.
"Give me your coat, it's warm here." Jon said as he placed her coat and his into the dimensional space and pulled out something more ordinary, nothing flashy, handing a cloak to her to put on and hide her face and hair, while he did the same.
They moved along looking for a dock at the edge, since the city was surrounded by water, until they saw a large ship in a village and headed there with Daenerys.
They went toward the place, arriving at the port and finding some mercenaries and men working at the docks.
"Who owns that ship?" Jon asked calmly, drawing the attention of the men there.
"The big boat? It belongs to Fynlio, the last house on the street, but he's only leaving tomorrow. If you want, I've got a boat if you pay well — or if you let me fuck that woman there, I'll give you a discount." A skinny man said, thinking she was some prostitute, as they used to bring women around at this time.
Daenerys, upon hearing this, instinctively took a step back.
"Bunch of idiots." Jon muttered with a bit of anger, and he simply raised his hand, making the skinny man feel terror as he was grabbed by something invisible.
"What is this?!" He cried out, stunned, lifting off the ground while the others who hadn't been paying much attention were suddenly terrified at the sight of the man floating.
Jon began squeezing his neck, making the man stare in horror at him from several meters away.
"You should have some respect, because this could mean your death at any moment." Jon was clearly irritated.
"Gods..." the other men watched equally stunned as they saw the man begin to suffocate.
"Jon! You don't need to kill him for that..." Daenerys approached him, touching his shoulder, not wanting him to go through with it.
"You will be a queen. Anyone who says anything like that should suffer the consequences." He said calmly.
"Please." She pleaded, afraid.
"..." Jon sighed as he saw the man start to lose consciousness, then moved his hand and threw him into the water.
He then looked at the man's boat — a bit small — and threw his Leviathan axe at it after the weapon appeared from nowhere, striking right in the middle, to everyone's surprise, as it froze the entire boat before Jon pulled it back, shattering all the ice.
With a snap, only the shards of ice remained as he walked across the water. If everyone had already been stunned by him lifting someone with a mere gesture, the axe had surely frightened them even more.
"Let's go see this Fynlio." Jon said as he headed down the street, and Daenerys followed him without saying another word.
Jon walked up to the house and knocked, and a man opened the door forcefully.
"Listen, I'm only leaving tomorrow morning!" he said grumpily, before seeing two strangers with their faces hidden.
"Here. This should get you out of bed." Jon said, showing five gold coins.
The man's eyes widened in astonishment.
"A trip to the city of Braavos, sounds like a good deal, considering the distance." Jon said.
"Yes, of course." he said, still looking surprised at the amount. "Alright, I'll get ready." he added, seeing the coin being handed over by Jon right then.
Jon and Daenerys had to wait a while before he showed up to go with them to the port, looking a bit agitated.
The man Jon had lifted earlier simply ran off, and everyone swallowed hard upon seeing the stranger who had done all that appear again with Fynlio, who began untying his boat. Someone whispered something to him.
The man seemed hesitant while Jon and Daenerys stood there silently, indifferent to the whispers and fearful stares.
In the end, they boarded the ship and headed toward Braavos, with the man seemingly afraid of Jon — but Jon remained quiet.
Upon arriving in the city, they disembarked with Jon helping Daenerys, and headed into the streets. Jon had asked that they go to a wealthier area.
They chose an inn, one of the most expensive, after passing by many guards as they walked through the streets. They were judged upon entering with their clothes, but that changed when Jon handed over the money and asked for a room.
"Rest today. We'll begin tomorrow." Jon said after they had bathed in the same room, taking one side of the bed while Daenerys took the other.
"Thank you for defending me." she said suddenly as she was trying to sleep.
"I should have killed him for that proposal... but it's fine." Jon said simply.
"..." Daenerys said nothing immediately. "You said I would be queen... is that true?" she asked, having been thinking about it the entire time since Jon had said it in the heat of the moment, catching her off guard — he had never said something so direct before.
"Yes." he then replied.
"..." Daenerys said nothing, but she certainly went to sleep with a smile after that.
