Chapter 68: The Secret Accord
Location: Gaia HQ – Sealed Briefing Chamber, Noon
Rain streaked down the crystal windows of Gaia HQ, casting refracted light into the sealed chamber where the Octagon stood shoulder to shoulder. The room was cold—not from temperature, but from tension.
Thea entered with Irene and Astron trailing silently behind. With a wave of her hand, the chamber sealed. A soft hum signaled the activation of anti-eavesdropping protocols.
"You're not here as Knights today," Thea began. "You're here as the heart of Gaia. Everything we built… is now at risk."
A visual schematic displayed a rift breach that had occurred just days ago in Eastern Siberia. It pulsed with violet light—wrong light.
"This wasn't Abyss," Irene said, her tone sharper than usual. "This was a manipulated breach. Something someone created."
Charlotte adjusted her lenses.
"That's not possible. Breaches occur naturally—chaotically."
"Until now," Thea confirmed. "And there's only one group with the resources to mimic Abyssal energy."
Cyg stepped forward, gaze steely.
"Orion."
Location: Gaia HQ – Garden Annex
Mia sat by the fountain, clutching her grimoire, Lexigra, with both hands. Beside her sat Sylvia, legs curled beneath her, strumming a soundless chord on her artifact earrings.
"It's strange," Mia said quietly. "They're trusting us with the burden of a kingdom. But I feel like we're barely holding ourselves together."
"We're not," Sylvia said bluntly. "But maybe that's the point."
Mia blinked.
"The point?"
Sylvia looked up at the gray sky, a rare look of seriousness across her face.
"The cracks show us where we bleed. But also where we connect."
Location: Inner Hallways – Just After Midnight
Elaine walked alone through Gaia's oldest corridor—the Hall of Lost Names, where the names of fallen Knights shimmered across pillars of stone.
She paused at one.
"Elvaris Synthesis 8," she whispered. "Wind before me."
Her eyes closed. For a moment, her heartbeat aligned with the wind. That's when she heard the footstep.
Turning, she found Astron leaning against the archway.
"Following me now?"
"No. Just watching which names you visit."
Elaine's gaze didn't shift.
"You think I'm the leak."
"I don't know what I think yet. But I know what betrayal looks like."
His words were like the shadows he commanded—quiet and cutting.
"Then I hope you're ready to be wrong."
Location: Orion Citadel – Abyssal Data Spire
Erebus stood on the spire's edge, overlooking the molten horizon. Behind him, Seluna Thanek knelt—her eyes shadowed by violet flame.
"Elaine's faith is cracking," she said.
"Faith is for the dead," Erebus replied. "We need certainty."
He turned.
"Send the signal. Tell her we're ready to fulfill our end."
Seluna smirked.
"And what if she runs?"
"Then let her run. Into our arms."
Location: Gaia HQ – Sub-Command Room 17
Charlotte hacked through encrypted logs alongside Cyg and Eun-Ha. Red runes lit the walls. They'd bypassed three levels of internal clearance.
"Found it," Charlotte muttered. "A command trace. From Elaine's terminal. Six nights ago. Same timestamp as the breach in Siberia."
Cyg's fists clenched.
Eun-Ha stared at the screen, her voice barely above a whisper.
"She's feeding them coordinates."
Charlotte didn't look up.
"What do we do?"
Cyg's answer was immediate.
"We confront her. Now."
Location: Gaia HQ – Outer Garden, Wind Shrine
Elaine stood in the garden where her bond with Aetheris was first formed. Her cloak flared in the swirling breeze, hair tangled like white ribbons in a storm.
She heard their footsteps before they spoke.
Cyg. Charlotte. Eun-Ha.
"Is it true?" Cyg asked flatly.
Elaine didn't move.
"I never wanted this war to escalate."
"But you helped escalate it," Charlotte snapped.
Elaine turned, and for the first time, her smile vanished completely.
"Orion promised peace. A way to close the rifts permanently. I thought… I thought I could broker a truce from the inside."
Eun-Ha stepped closer.
"By risking all of us?"
Elaine's hands trembled.
"I wanted to save lives… I didn't think—"
"You didn't trust us," Cyg interrupted.
Silence.
"You'll come with us," Charlotte said at last. "Let Thea decide what comes next."
But before Elaine could answer, a blade of solid void emerged from the trees behind them—aimed straight at her.
Final Scene: Forest Border – Immediate Response
Cyg's Mystic Eye flared. Time bent. His body moved before thought. He parried the void blade with Aetheron in a burst of silver energy.
Charlotte conjured a gravity pulse. Eun-Ha cast a divine barrier.
From the shadows emerged a figure in gray—the assassin known as Nyxa Vell, Orion's "Shadow."
"Too slow, children," she hissed. "We only need one of you alive."
Elaine whispered to the wind.
"Then you chose the wrong one."
With a single scream, the entire grove exploded in a spiral of howling gales.
