Gaia Chronicles: The Integral Saga

Chapter 132: Unseen Currents

Location: Gaia HQ – Central Wing, Strategy Briefing Room

Elaine sat near the back of the chamber, her fingers loosely wrapped around a cup of chamomile tea. The meeting room buzzed with energy. Screens projected maps of escalating Abyssal incursions. Reports flooded in—sector breaches, unexplained weather surges, unknown energy patterns. It was chaos dressed in order.

At the front, Thea stood with grace as always, addressing the Knights with her clear voice.

"We believe the fluctuations near Mt. Velvra weren't isolated. Three other wind anomalies have emerged across the eastern hemisphere, all synchronized with the Abyss's recent activity."

Elaine's eyes narrowed. Mt. Velvra… that couldn't be a coincidence.

Beside her, Hikari leaned in and whispered, "Does it feel like they're... chasing you?"

Elaine glanced at her. "Or being drawn to me."

Cyg, arms crossed across his chest, spoke from across the room.

"If the Abyss is responding to artifact awakenings, it means they're tracking Divine Assimilation pulses. That changes everything."

"Then let's stop them before they come knocking," said Diane bluntly.

Thea nodded. "We'll dispatch two squads. Charlotte will lead the reconnaissance team. Elaine, you'll lead an aerial scout squad."

Elaine's eyes widened slightly.

"Me?"

"You've unlocked Sylphsong. That makes you the best choice," Thea said, her gaze warm but firm. "You can fly higher than any of us now."

There was silence for a beat. Then, Elaine slowly stood and nodded.

"Understood."

Location: Skies over Azura Cliffs – Operation Whisper Gale

Elaine soared through the skies, the wings of Sylphsong glinting against the starlight.

The air here felt alive, vibrating with something ancient—something wrong.

Behind her, three other scouts rode wind gliders—less stable than flight-enabled artifacts but useful for terrain scanning.

"Squad Galeheart to HQ," Elaine said into her communicator. "Crosswinds are erratic. Energy readings spiking. Requesting backup ready team in case of anomaly breach."

A buzz. "Copy that, Galeheart. Keep us updated."

Then, without warning—

"Screeeee—"

A piercing sonic wail shattered the wind.

Elaine spun around just as two wind gliders were snatched by talon-shaped shadows.

"Evasive!" she cried, flipping mid-air as Sylphsong flared.

Abyssal creatures cloaked in fog emerged—winged, twisted, almost invisible, and moving like smoke across the sky.

They weren't random.

They were hunting.

Location: Cliffside Ridge – Mid-air Combat

Elaine struck first.

She spun, unleashing arcs of compressed wind that tore through the foglike creatures. Her squad regrouped quickly, led by her calm but firm orders.

"Stay close to my stream. Don't break formation!"

One by one, the Abyssal wraiths fell—but they weren't dying. They were reforming.

"Captain!" shouted one of her scouts. "They're using the wind against us!"

Elaine's eyes lit up.

"No. They're feeding from it."

A sick realization hit.

"Sylphsong… we're fueling them."

The weapon glowed in her hand, resonating with her thoughts. And then she understood.

She didn't need to command the wind.

She needed to become one with it.

Elaine closed her eyes mid-flight.

Let go.

Surrendered control.

And the wind wrapped around her—not as a weapon, but as a partner.

Sylphsong Form – Phase Two Activation: Sky Embrace Mode

Wings of air expanded behind her like a full gale given shape.

Elaine shot forward, weaving through the Abyssals with seamless grace. Her blade struck not with force, but with precision, unraveling the energy that bound them.

One by one, the monsters burst apart like ash on a breeze.

Her squad watched in awe.

"Captain… that was…"

"Wind doesn't fight. It carries. It flows," she said softly. "We just have to listen."

Later That Night – Gaia HQ, Garden Courtyard

Elaine sat on the garden bench, eyes closed, feeling the wind brush through her hair.

"You were incredible today."

She opened her eyes.

Cyg stood there, arms in his pockets, hair tousled by the breeze.

Elaine smiled faintly. "I almost lost them."

"But you didn't."

"I've always tried so hard to smile. Even when I didn't understand what I was feeling. But now… I think I'm okay with the silence, too."

Cyg looked at her quietly, then stepped closer.

"You don't always have to carry everyone's joy."

Elaine's breath caught.

"Sometimes, you just need someone to stand still beside you and let the wind pass."

He sat down beside her.

Not touching.

Not saying anything else.

Just there.

And in that quiet, the wind whispered between them—no longer unseen, but understood.

Meanwhile – Orion Listening Post, Southeast Front

Kaien Rhyst, Codename: Judicant Breaker, reviewed the footage of the aerial skirmish with a low whistle.

"She's learning too fast."

Miruis replied, "She's syncing with her artifact like it's alive."

"They all are," said Kaien. "We either kill the Octagon now… or they'll become the storm."

Erebus appeared on the projection.

"Then let us see… if joy can bleed."
