Chapter 33: Disbelief
Griffin nodded in acknowledgement and secretly smiled. However, Qwanisha caught it and didn't tease him for it. She felt satisfied by the current interaction. Who would have thought talking about something not a bit so personal but in relation to what all of them understood about life would actually bring them together?
Qwanisha wanted this moment to last, but since the conversation has been silent for a while now, secretly glancing at others and assuming they were also understanding their desire, she decided to take the chance to bring up the main topic.
She said, "Alright. That was a meaningful conversation. However, let's focus on our future plans. Since we were given six months, we will invest it all on our training, especially to Kaiju…" Qwanisha meaningfully swept her gaze at Snow and Little Gorilla and continued, "And to his pets."
"Yes, dear. Have you decided the sequence of his training?" Max smiled.
Qwanisha's heart softened by Max's call sign and nodded.
"I might have, if Kaiju gives us information about him and his pets."
Kaiju grasped what she meant and after meeting her gaze, he nodded.
"I'm a close-combat fighter with a Basic Mastery in Dagger. I only have one skill I use when fighting, which is Swift Dash, another common skill. I can use it three times with a cool down of five minutes. I have a skill, Shadow Step, but it's effectiveness lowers drastically if the enemy discern my presence. I have an Emotionless Skill, aiding me a lot when it comes to handling stressful circumstances, increasing my concentration."
Kaiju observed their reaction throughout the time he was revealing his skills and was not dismayed to perceive their disappointed expression. After all, they should have already possessed a lot of skills since the Tower would already record and exaggerate the skills they practiced a lot since they were born. Compared to him, the Tower only recorded Pain Tolerance skill the moment he entered the trial.
"That's it?" Lucy asked, confused. However, she suddenly realized her reaction seemed to be too sensitive as it might hurt Kaiju's feelings, so she quickly apologized. "I-I'm sorry."
Kaiju shook his head and replied, "It's fine."
"Did you really not obtain a skill before entering the Trial? What are you even doing in your whole life?" Max couldn't help but ask.
"MAX!" Qwanisha shouted.
Max was taken aback and realized what he had done. However, he felt wronged for he was not incorrect. Ever since the world had turned into chaos with the appearance of the Tower, adults have been training their children ever since they discovered that children could be in advantage in the Trial with the skills they already learned and recorded by the Tower. Hence, by now, it would be impossible even if Kaiju was an orphan.
"There is… one." Kaiju hesitated but finally decided to disclose it to them. After all, they would be his comrade for now and had no choice but to put his trust in them for his survival.
Under their intense inquisitive gaze, Kaiju said, "Pain Tolerance… Rare grade."
He was even hesitating to mention its grade but he did it anyway. Now, the reaction he expected had finally come–shocked, appalled, widened eyes… even the usual indifferent Griffin stared at him while hiding the astonishment concealed deep within his viridescent pupils.
"P-Pain Tolerance?" Qwanisha gasped in shock.
Kaiju sighed. To be honest, he had already expected such a reaction. After all, it was by no means easy to acquire a Rare grade skill even before the Trial. There was even a record in the Tower, in the early times of its appearance, that humans raged a mini war just to obtain a single Rare grade book skill. Although Rare grade has become a bit common for players nowadays, that was in the realm of Rankers.
For an unawakener to possess a Rare grade conveyed its potential to become a Pseudo-Ranker, perhaps… even a Ranker!
"Rare grade at that!" Max's eyes widened, finding it difficult to believe. "Does that mean your whole life…"
Kaiju closed his eyes and recalled some words he buried deep within his memory…

"Hey, I've just learned from my new private teacher about Pressure Point Manipulation. Kaiju, let me test it on you. Don't worry, you won't die, I will even pay the fees for your hospital…"
"Hey, guys! I just learned about this Temperature Sensitivity Testing. Apparently, we can understand our resilience, physical endurance, and others. Since Kaiju is the same age, we can just calculate our resilience and physical endurance by testing it on him. Kaiju, it won't hurt that much…"
"Kaiju, let me drown you in the water. Don't worry, I'll make sure you won't die. I was tasked by my private teacher to learn about the human's physical limits and fear reactions. I'm so tired of reading books and it's just theory anyway, it's better to see it with my own eyes…"
"Kaiju, can I use electric shocks on you, so I can measure the human's nerve responses? It will also help me accurately gauge the human's physical toughness…"
"Kaiju, can I use the Sleep Deprivation Experiment on you? Heh! Even if you tried to sleep, you can't. I'll put bright lights on this warehouse, produce loud noises, and even make you drink lots and lots of coffee."
"Kaiju… I want to experiment your smell and taste…
"Kaiju…"

At this point, Kaiju felt his stomach churning, wanting to vomit but restrained himself. They caught his reaction but Qwanisha was quick and instantly embraced Kaiju in her arms. Kaiju just stayed till, feeling suffocated by Qwanisha's breast, while also receiving Snow's worried rubbed of her cheeks, hissing in sorrow. Little Gorilla just embraced Kaiju's head.
Kaiju suddenly laughed and gently pushed them away.
"It's fine. At least, it let me learn a Rare grade skill. It's a win-win anyway."
Qwanisha cast a worried glance at Kaiju and was about to say something when Max beat her into it.
Max guffawed, saying, "Right? Well, you can just take revenge after completing this Hellish Trial. That is, if you still want to."
Max said the last sentence, after perceiving Kaiju didn't seem to possess a deep hatred to the person who made him obtain the skill.
Kaiju nodded.
"Since I'm living a new life, it has been long I have forgotten about the past–well, ever since I landed on this trial. However, if they are still disturbing me once I return to the real world, I won't show mercy."
Kaiju's eyes flashed with cold intent.
"That's more like it!"
Max clapped his hand and said, "Alright, since Kaiju had already stated all his skills, who wants to teach him?"
"Let me," said Griffin, shocking others.
"What?" Griffin shrugged at their exaggerated reaction. "It's just I'm more suitable to teach him since he is a close-combatant. Even if he has potential to become an assassin, Qwanisha is an archer, not a rogue. Max is out of question, even Faith, and even more so, Lucy. I'm more suitable."
"You don't have to say too much." Qwanisha was in disbelief. "I was about to propose it to you but you've already said it."
Griffin nodded.
"I have no complaints."
"Umm…" All eyes focused on Kaiju. "I haven't shared all my skills yet."
"Yes." Griffin nodded. "Qwanisha and Max recounted the event yesterday."
Qwanisha, Max, and others were confused by Griffin and Kaiju's interaction.
Griffin continued, "You should have also received a Curse Resistance skill, right?"
"Yes." Kaiju nodded. "Rare grade."
"R-Rare…" Griffin mumbled while staring at Kaiju with a solemn countenance.
His face twitched for a split second, but everyone caught it. However, compared to his reaction, they were more exaggerated.
Even so, Kaiju was not done yet.
"Poison Immunity, too." He grinned, suddenly having a desire to tease them more. "Also, a Rare grade."
