Chapter 242: Back Home
They ran and had to dodge the debris that flew by along the way.
The pedestrians who were harmless were now ticking time bombs as they would suddenly explode into a pulp of flesh and blood.
Nevertheless, they reached the gates of the city relatively unscathed.
Boom.
As the city walls crumbled down, Lin Fan held onto Ho Ming and Hun Yen Kun.
With his Chain Leap ability, he tried to leap over the crumbling walls.
Hun Yen Kun was carrying Zhao Qing Ying, and Ho Ming was carrying Xiao Tai, so it took Lin Fan's full strength to do so.
Luckily, his physique at Level 7 was enough to do so.
When they landed outside of the city walls, they heard a loud splash.
Lin Fan looked around, and they were now back on the boat.
The golden shrine was no longer around, and the fish that had gobbled them up was no longer there.
They were now back inside the cave.
"How is senior martial uncle?" Lin Fan asked.
"He should be fine after some recuperation. The chains that were tied to him must have sucked out his Qi and energy," Hun Yen Kun said.
Lin Fan nodded, and they started to make their way back to the port.
While there was nothing else to do, Lin Fan took out the imperial seal and inspected it.
It must have been an artifact that was able to command subjects who believed in the idea of monarchs.
Lucky for Lin Fan, he came from a world where it was all about the people's will.
No one from it believed in kowtowing to any lords or emperors anymore.
Soon, they passed by the boat that long-moustache and his gang were on.
Lin Fan saw the bloodied mess on the deck and figured it must have been due to the Water Monkeys.
He shook his head and thought that it was such an ironic ending for them.
...
Nan An village.
Qing Feng Sect branch.
"Where am I?" Zhao Qing Ying woke up after a day and asked.
He slowly opened his eyes and saw Hun Yen Kun next to his bed.
"You are in the branch sect," Hun Yen Kun replied.
"The last thing I remembered, I was captured by the emperor. The imperial seal... how did you..."
Zhao Qing Ying asked, as he couldn't figure out how they were able to defeat the emperor with the imperial seal.
He had tried to battle the imperial seal with all he had but he wasn't able to defy its commands.
All his techniques and strikes at the emperor were in vain.
It must have been an artifact that was at least Divine Level, one level higher than Heavenly Level.
Hun Yen Kun, with a cup of tea, passed it to Zhao Qing Ying and said, "Senior martial uncle, Lin Fan somehow wasn't affected by the imperial seal. He said it might be due to his cultivation roots."
After some curious probing from Hun Yen Kun, Lin Fan had come up with this excuse.
Since his cultivation root was a mystery, Lin Fan had made use of it to stop Hun Yen Kun from having any further questions.
Zhao Qing Ying squinted his eyes and went into his thoughts for a moment.
Could the Beast Cultivation Root really be immune to the mandate of heaven? He pondered.
Before he could say anything, Hun Yen Kun briefed him on the situation that had happened.
Zhao Qing Ying frowned as he heard about the Dark Lord making a comeback and having gotten a piece of flesh from Zhang Yi Nian.
It was bad, and they had better stop the Dark Lord as soon as possible.
"We better get going," Zhao Qing Ying said and drank the cup of tea.
After that, he got off the bed.
His Qi and strength had fully recovered, and he wasn't about to waste more time.
"Let me get Lin Fan and Ho Ming," Hun Yen Kun said and went out of the room.
Lin Fan and Ho Ming were in their room.
"Here. The reward as promised." Lin Fan passed Xiao Tao ten copper coins and put them into her hands.
"Thank you so much!" Xiao Tao was pleased, and she carefully kept the copper coins in her purse.
She had delivered, and Lin Fan was more than happy to pay her dues.
She bid them farewell, bowed, and then skipped out of the room.
"Why don't you give her more?" Ho Ming asked when he saw her disappear out of sight.
Lin Fan shook his head and said, "Giving her more would just cause more troubles for her. The other fishermen would be jealous, and they will find ways to make her life difficult."
He knew that's how it works in the lower rungs of society in Quan Dynasty.
So, it's better not to pay more than what she can keep.
Ho Ming sighed and nodded.
His thoughts were interrupted when Hun Yen Kun came into their room.
"Pack up. It's time to go back to the sect."
Lin Fan and Ho Ming quickly packed, and very soon they were on their way back to the sect.
...
Qing Feng Sect.
After a few days of travelling, they finally arrived back at the sect.
Everyone was glad and happy when they saw Zhao Qing Ying back.
Their chances of beating the Lady Saint, Li Rong, had certainly increased with his presence.
Lin Fan and Ho Ming went back to their respective places to rest and wait for further instructions.
It warmed his heart when Lin Fan saw the familiar wooden hut and its surroundings, tranquil as ever.
"You're back. Just in time for dinner."
He felt safe when he heard Ho Jie greet him as he entered the wooden hut.
Lin Fan poured himself a cup of tea and sipped it from the teacup.
It was how he remembered it to be.
Bitter and sweet.
When dinner was served, Lin Fan ate heartily.
He then asked Ho Jie about the Xuan Dynasty.
But Ho Jie shook his head as he didn't know much.
All he knew was that the Quan Dynasty Emperor had rebelled and overthrown the Xuan Emperor.
Lin Fan nodded his head and thought about finding out more on the imperial seal.
