Floating Island - Triple S Talent

Chapter 444: Late

Nita, who had been watching the situation unfold, could barely hold back her laughter.

Yes, under her rule, all criminal acts were dealt with strictly, without exception. It didn't matter whether they were humans, vampires, goblins, or any other race—everyone was treated equally. No one was above the law.

As a result, civilians had complete trust in the city's security. Even someone like the plump aunt had no hesitation in scolding two dangerous individuals who were ready to fight in public.

"Why haven't the city enforcers arrived yet?" Nita frowned, her eyes scanning the surroundings, looking for any sign of law enforcement.

However, just as the thought crossed her mind, the wail of police sirens echoed through the air. A black vehicle with blue and red neon lights descended from the sky, approaching the scene of the commotion.

Not only that, several officers on hover bikes and floating platforms escorted the main vehicle, prepared for any possibility.

The car's door opened, and a burly middle-aged man stepped out. A golden badge gleamed on his chest, marking his authority as the captain of the police force. Several subordinates followed closely behind, moving swiftly to secure the area.

"Make way…"

The firm voice of the guards cut through the crowd. People quickly stepped aside, creating a path for the imposing man who walked with unwavering confidence. The police captain, clad in a crisp black uniform with a gleaming golden badge, swept his gaze over the scene.

Upon reaching the center of the commotion, Captain Yosua took note of the two figures at the heart of the conflict—a vampire noble and a goblin captain. Both now stood in neutral positions, their previous aura of hostility completely dissipated, as if nothing had happened.

"Apologies for interrupting your business," Captain Yosua's voice was deep, heavy, yet calm. "I am Captain Yosua, a gold-ranked captain. I received a report of a dispute here."

His gaze shifted to the goblin captain, who happened to be standing closer to him. "Can you help explain the situation?"

The goblin captain flinched slightly but quickly composed himself. He straightened his back and spoke in a serious tone.

"I saw this man using force against my kin…" he said, his voice laced with restrained emotion. He explained what he had witnessed—without mentioning that he didn't know how it all started.

Captain Yosua nodded, then turned his attention to the vampire noble. "Now it's your turn, Sir. You are directly involved in this incident."

The noble showed not a hint of fear. With the arrogance typical of vampires, he responded in a calm yet resolute voice.

"I was strolling through the Main City with my daughter when this young goblin stole my daughter's pendant. So, I chased him down and demanded he return it."

His words were straightforward, without hesitation, as if he had no concern about any consequences for his actions.

Captain Yosua glanced at the young girl standing beside the vampire noble. Her eyes glistened with tears, her tiny fingers clutching the hem of her father's clothing. Fear and anxiety were evident on her face.

Then, his gaze shifted to the young goblin, who now stood in silence, his head lowered.

"Do you have anything to say in your defense?" he asked, his tone still calm. He was giving everyone a fair chance to speak.

The young goblin stiffened. His hands trembled as he reached into his pocket and pulled out a gleaming red pendant. With shaking hands, he returned it to the vampire noble.

"Yes, I took it, Sir…" his voice was barely above a whisper.

The vampire noble clicked his tongue in annoyance. "Tch… This would have been over long ago if you had just returned it sooner," he said coldly, snatching the pendant from the goblin's hands.

Captain Yosua continued observing the situation carefully. He didn't rush to conclusions and instead turned his questioning back to the young goblin.

"Why did you take it? Are you ignoring the city's laws?" His tone was now slightly more pressing, carrying the weight of authority. He knew this goblin was no longer a child—he should understand the consequences of his actions.

The young goblin sobbed. His shoulders shook, his voice caught in his throat. Tears streamed down his cheeks, but he finally mustered the courage to respond.

"I'm sorry, Sir… I needed it to pay for my mother's medical treatment…" he said in a hoarse, broken voice.

Nita, watching from a distance, took a deep breath. This scene was nothing new to her. The city under her rule had strict laws, but that didn't mean all its citizens lived without struggle.

Captain Yosua gazed at the young goblin without a word. Instantly, the atmosphere around them grew heavier.

Huft…

Captain Yosua exhaled deeply, allowing the air to fill his lungs before releasing it slowly. "It's always like this…" he muttered, almost as if talking to himself. His eyes moved from the trembling goblin to the vampire noble, who now held his pendant once more.

"You will have to come with us for rehabilitation," he declared, his voice now firm, loud enough for everyone around to hear. "No matter the reason, criminal acts will not be tolerated in the Main City."

His sharp gaze swept over the crowd before returning to the two involved parties. "This matter ends here. Do either of you have any objections?" he asked, ensuring his decision was acceptable to both sides.

The vampire noble let out a short sigh before shaking his head. The goblin captain did the same. There were no protests, no resistance. In the end, they were once enslaved races, now given the chance to live freely in the Divine Sky Realm. They knew that defying the law would only make things worse.

"Alright, disperse!" Captain Yosua ordered before signaling his subordinates. Within moments, they moved swiftly, escorting the young goblin away.

With steady steps, Captain Yosua and his team boarded the hovering vehicle that had been waiting. The futuristic machine hummed softly before soaring into the sky, leaving behind streets that had returned to calm.

However, among the dispersing crowd, a sharply dressed man remained still. Thin wisps of smoke curled from the long cigarette between his fingers. He took a slow drag, then exhaled the smoke into the air with an unhurried motion.

"Tch… Another failure…" he muttered softly, his voice nearly drowned out by the hushed murmurs of onlookers still whispering about the incident. With a relaxed stride, he turned and walked away, blending into the streets without haste.

From afar, a pair of eyes tracked his movements.

Nita furrowed her brows. Out of all the people here, only she could sense the subtle shift in emotions—the faint ripple in the atmosphere that signified something was amiss. And that man… He was hiding something.

"That person…" she whispered under her breath.

Her gaze sharpened. Something wasn't right. She had no concrete evidence, but her instincts told her that the man was no ordinary bystander.

"Is the underground crime network resurfacing?" she thought. "How are they recovering so quickly? It's only been two months since the last purge…"

The thought churned in her mind. Even though the city's laws were strict, there were always those who sought to defy them. No matter how thorough a crackdown was, the seeds of crime always found a way to grow back.

Nita exhaled slowly, her fingers moving swiftly to unlock her phone. Without hesitation, she sent a message to the city's police division.

[Purge operation must be conducted again.]

Before she could ponder the situation further, another notification popped up on her screen.

(Elen) Sis, are you coming soon?

Nita froze for a moment. Her eyes widened.

"…No! I'm late!"

Without wasting a second, she quickly typed her response.

[On my way now!]

As soon as the message was sent, she activated her teleportation without hesitation. A soft glow enveloped her body, and in an instant, Nita vanished from the scene.
