29Chapter 33: Interlude: Noelle
Bio Forge Master
Interlude: Noelle
Noelle
Her greatest obstacle wasn't necessarily the hunger, or even the smell, it was the sheer boredom she often faced. Being stuck in what amounted to a box all day took its toll on a person mentally. She had been from rural Winsconsin, she knew that people went crazy after just a few days in a farm with no human contact, the same thing happened to lighthouse keepers.
She had developed a specific schedule of visits for her friends, as bad as it sounded, but the fact is she needed to talk to people sometimes. The internet connection was good but there was a limited amount of stuff that you could use to distract yourself.
God, she would give anything to eat ice cream again or just have the chance to walk around the city and waste money on stupid tchotchkes and other merch from the places they've traveled. She never imagined that she'd miss those little shops selling regional junk like that!
Another part of her routine was maintenance of her own cell, she distracted herself with a full cleaning set in there by cleaning her lower half. An endless task but one she did with gusto, if only because it helped her deal with the sheer monotony that had consumed her life since she drank half of that power vial!
But the one thing she missed the most? A bed, it didn't have to be a fancy one or anything, hell she would happily take a piece of plywood with a sheet and pillow! She had been standing upright against her mass, which wasn't the most comfortable sleeping position, since her powers came in. How a brute with regeneration had so much back pain is simply beyond her comprehension!
Honestly, she thought she would spend the rest of her days wasting away (metaphorically, because she didn't think she could physically waste away). The thought of her friends eventually dying while she remained, unable to die or do anything, shattered her soul. The knowledge tormented the monster behind her mind, she wanted to say that the monster wasn't her.
It was her Hulk, her Mister Hyde, but it wasn't true. Not really, there was no clearly defined line between them, it was always there, a part of her brain she struggled to not use.
She failed on occasion resulting in… accidents when she got loose and… gorged. However, she felt she did an admirable job in keeping her sanity and organization! She had no doubt others in her position would be stark raving mad and wearing nothing but rags, not bathing in months and just letting themself fall apart.
The key has always been the routine, it kept her focused and helped her keep what remaining sanity she had. Keeping her hair clean, the skin over her monstrous lower half, trimming her nails and wearing a wide t-shirt to preserve what little modesty she still had.
There were good days and bad of course, but she was a country girl, so she learned to roll with the punches. Today being a pretty good day actually, a fan fiction she'd been following finally updated after months of silence! Admittedly reaction fanfics were considered the lowest tier of entertainment, but she enjoyed them regardless. Sometimes she would watch a movie and share it with a movie community she found, and did her cross-stitching practice, a very old technique to kill time.
Then she got a call, curious she reached over to the table and grabbed it then answered.
It was Coil.
And what started as a pretty good day went downhill pretty quick afterwards.
