Chapter 25: Chapter 25: War
[3rd POV]
Gilgamesh has come.
When this news reached Ur City, the entire city fell into panic.
Although Kyouya had previously defeated a goddess, the people were far more afraid of that man, Gilgamesh.
[You feel the unease of the people. You despise this sound, this feeling. Your disgust for Gilgamesh has deepened more.]
That's right, disgust.
He looked from a distance at the golden-haired young man in golden armor.
An inexplicable disgust rose inside him.
This wasn't just jealousy from being a "backup" facing the "original," it was a more pure and simple feeling.
The "Benevolent Hidden Emperor" had granted him power, but it also made it easier for him to sense the hearts of the people.
The anxiety, panic, fear... these thoughts entered Kyouya's mind and wouldn't go away, making him unable to sleep well for several days.
That's why he was furious.
"Who does this fool think I am? It's about time for you, bastard, to show up."
Gilgamesh looked toward him on the city wall. He learned of the "Wedge of Heaven" plan when it was first revealed regarding this half-brother.
Now, it was time for this king to bury this evil plan and rescue humanity from the gods' grasp.
"Bastard, do you have the courage to come before the King?"
Gilgamesh ascended into the sky. Like Kyouya, he hated looking up at others.
As a king, it was only right to look down upon all beings.
[You feel the magic inside you boiling, the person before you is giving off a strong hostility, and it seems that only one of you can survive this encounter.]
[You feel the people's fear, your own disgust, and Gilgamesh's hostility. The power of "Benevolent Hidden Emperor" manifests within you.]
[You are the enemy of kings.]
A bone-chilling cold surged through Gilgamesh, making his entire body shudder.
It was the feeling of facing a natural enemy.
He had never once taken Kyouya seriously, but now his body was on full alert.
Gilgamesh, as a king, a warrior, and a wise man, instinctively knew not to underestimate his opponent.
"I have no intention of being your enemy. You should understand that our fight will only serve to please the gods up there."
Kyouya felt disgust, dissatisfaction, and nausea when seeing Gilgamesh's smug face made him want to attack but he held himself back for the moment.
The sound of people crying out in agony in his mind is much worse than the current anxiety and fear.
If Gilgamesh was willing to negotiate, Kyouya could still make some concessions.
"Let you, bastard, live on and become a tool for the gods, a connection between gods and humans? Then, let me make two things clear. First, I don't like backups. Second..."
The golden blade of light shot toward Kyouya, and in a split second, he blocked it.
"I hate the gods."
"I see. There's just not enough trust between us. That makes sense… who would trust someone they despise?"
He completely expected Gilgamesh's sudden attack. The "Absolute Counter" skill allowed him to sense the enemy's attacks.
The moment Gilgamesh intended to attack, Kyouya was already ready to defend.
Now that the enemy wasn't cooperating, then it would be up to the gods.
"Bang~"
Before Gilgamesh could react, Kyouya struck him with a spear, hitting his golden armor and sending him crashing to the ground.
"How could this be?"
Gilgamesh was stunned.
Even without his EX-level Clairvoyance, he shouldn't have failed to sense the attack from his opponent.
"That is 'Absolute Counter,' an attack that cannot be anticipated in advance, or are you telling me this is all the strength you have?"
Kyouya spoke slowly.
Even in the last simulation, a powerful knight like Lloyd needed to have the intent to attack before he could strike.
As long as the attack intention could be sensed, it could be defended against in advance.
"How dare you make my body dirty. You have some skill, but this is where it ends."
Gilgamesh was prepared to use all of his power when a flash of golden light flickered behind him.
He originally intended to defeat this "replacement" with absolute strength, but now it seemed he had no choice but to show his entire power.
The golden streams of light shot out, but for him who had an "Absolute Counter," they were completely ineffective.
He simply swung his spear and knocked them away.
"Weapon?"
Kyouya looked at the sword he had sent flying.
It was still rough, but he could already sense a divine aura coming from it.
This seemed to be the prototype of a divine weapon.
"Surprised? This is my King's Treasure, a collection of all human wisdom and knowledge, formed into a treasure that dedicates everything to me."
Gilgamesh proudly introduced his King's Treasure.
Although it was an era before Christ, human dreams and desires hadn't changed much.
In fact, the existence of magic has allowed for the fulfillment of things that modern people could hardly imagine.
The King's Treasure was not just a crystallized wealth but a crystallized human dream.
Inside it were airplanes, cannons, submarines... all the embodiments of human aspirations now falling into the hands of a single person.
It's truly... frustrating.
"Weapon? That kind of thing is more of a toy than a treasure."
He didn't hold back in mocking Gilgamesh's collection, not just Gilgamesh but the whole battlefield fell silent.
They could feel it, the overwhelming anger coming from Gilgamesh.
"What did you say?"
"Is your hearing that bad? If throwing a sword is considered 'fight,' then even a three-year-old could be called a God of War, right?"
Kyouya's taunts were getting worse, and even though Gilgamesh knew it was all a provocation, his anger only grew.
"Not satisfied? You, glittering gold."
Gilgamesh had never been insulted like this especially not in front of two armies.
It felt like an open humiliation.
"This king will kill you."
To be continued...
