Chapter 24: Chapter 24: If I Could Be Reborn...

[3rd POV]

"Ugh~ Kill me."

In Kyouya's room, Ishtar is tied up, ugh kill... wait, this sounds a little familiar...

"Then, I will."

"No, I was joking, please don't kill me."

"I know, that's why I was joking too."

Who the hell believes that?

Looking at the cold expression on Kyouya's face, Ishtar couldn't help but think that his hand could strike at any moment.

Who would believe that his joke was actually a joke?

"To put it simply, I'm here to cooperate with you."

Kyouya had no intention of becoming enemies with the gods or with Gilgamesh.

However, he had taken Gilgamesh's land and stolen his people, and their grudge was already set.

Even if he couldn't win the gods over, Kyouya couldn't afford to be their enemy, at least... not yet.

"I can give you treasures, but in return, have the Bull of Heaven help me cultivate barren land and transform the surrounding area to make it suitable for growing crops."

"That's something that mortals should..."

"Hmm?"

"I... I understand."

Now, it was a matter of bowing her head under pressure from Kyouya; Ishtar had no choice but to comply with his demands.

Every day, she and Gugalanna woke up earlier to work harder than anyone.

Kyouya, like a capitalist, constantly thought of ways to squeeze most of Ishtar's remaining energy.

[You've used the Bull of Heaven to move mountains and redirect rivers, transforming barren land into fertile fields. The people's fate for you increases, and the effects of the Benevolent Hidden Emperor grow stronger.]

[You've used Gugalanna to control the weather, bringing favorable winds and rain to the area near Ur. Gradually, many people who couldn't tolerate Gilgamesh's tyranny began to join you, further boosting the Benevolent Hidden Emperor's effects.]

[Gilgamesh has started to notice you.]

...

"Damn it, how many times has this happened? I can't even take back a mere small city. What use are you all to me?"

Gilgamesh had lost all interest in drinking.

He originally considered Kyouya a mere thief, but now it seemed like a real problem.

Gilgamesh didn't know despite his EX-level Clairvoyance, he was now blinded by his rage, frustration, and hatred.

He could no longer see the future with his eyes clouded.

"Gather the troops. I will personally punish this rebellious fool."

The authority of the king cannot be questioned.

Gilgamesh was determined to eliminate the rebels. As long as his voice was the only one left in the world, everything he said would be right.

"Your Majesty, they only occupy a small part of the Mesopotamia region..."

"Siduri, has your mind gone astray? Even a tiny piece of land as a fingernail belongs to me. I will not allow anyone to tarnish it."

Siduri knew well that her words were inappropriate, but these days, she had seen Gilgamesh degrade himself and the whole city of Uruk.

She would never betray him out of absolute loyalty, but she also hoped that the refugees could find some relief in Ur.

"I've heard that the rebel is collaborating with the goddess Ishtar. Please reconsider your actions."

"Cooperate? That troublesome woman, with her vicious personality, would never cooperate with anyone. She must have something on her that they're using to control her. Now, I am going to put an end to the chaos, and it is too late for her to thank me. No more talking."

The king's authority couldn't be questioned, and men, especially were the most sensitive to provocation in this world.

"Sigh~ War breaks out, and how many more families will be torn apart?"

Siduri sighed helplessly.

She couldn't guide the king onto the right path as a servant. She blamed herself for it, at least that's how she saw it.

...

[You command the Gugalanna to mine ores and melt them with its flames to forge weapons. The military power of Ur has been strengthened.]

This thing is just too useful.

Kyouya's eyes sparkled as he looked at Gugalanna.

"Such a waste."

He glanced at the crazy goddess.

Gugalanna was nothing more than a tool for destruction for her.

"Oh? You're looking at me with such a gaze? Are you attracted to my perfect figure, Shadow?"

Ishtar knew about everything he had been doing lately.

She couldn't deny that he had made a small city like Ur succeed almost as if he were preparing to build a second city in this jungle.

"I just can't help but marvel at how fair the heavens are. They gave you such beauty and strength, but they gave you a brain that's as mushy as glue."

"You... insult the goddess? Be careful, or you'll turn into a pig or a dog in your next life."

Ishtar was, of course, furious but in fact, she couldn't to do that with Ereshikgal, the ruler of the Underworld.

Even if reincarnation were possible, there was no way he would come back as a pig or a dog.

"If reincarnation truly exists, then I definitely will come back as a playground."

"Why?"

After thinking it over, Kyouya still didn't provide an answer.

After all, this was Ereshikgal's sister.

Ishtar's personality might be a little off, but the lessons from these past days had been enough.

"It's such a shame."

He looked at the Gugalanna.

Gilgamesh was strong enough to control Ishtar even if he hadn't brought his army himself.

But once that guy arrived, Ishtar would inevitably seize the opportunity to escape.

That would mean he could no longer continue to exploit Gugalanna's productivity.

The thought of such a magnificent source of productivity being squandered by that crazy woman made him experience a sharp pain in his chest.

Not being able to profit was worse than losing money.

...

A legend began to spread across the land of Babylon.

It was said that in the rainforest surrounded by beasts, a king had established a kingdom in the wilderness.

In that kingdom, the goddess bestowed her treasures, the Bull of Heaven helped humans cultivate land, and a wise and merciful king protected everything in the kingdom.

Those who could not survive, those who were oppressed, began to gather toward that place known as Ur.

At the same time... Gilgamesh's army.

To be continued...
