Chapter 191: Chapter 192: The True Treasure
The Sishui Heavenly Palace was a place fraught with peril. Of course, it also contained a number of rare treasures, but these items were usually located in extremely dangerous places.
As the group leaped up the final flight of stairs, they finally saw the true face of the palace.
From below, the Sishui Heavenly Palace had already seemed incomparably grand. But now that they had reached the top, the vista before them underwent a completely different transformation. It was like a palace in the heavens, shrouded in clouds and mist. Every corner of it radiated an extraordinary aura.
"How magnificent. I never thought they would build such a massive palace just to seal the Wuyang Jade," Lin Yun remarked quietly.
The Chongqing Bird's voice echoed in his mind, "There is a reason for this magnificence. Everything here is one part of a single, integrated restrictive ward." The entire Sishui Heavenly Palace was one massive formation. It was hard to imagine what kind of figure could have accomplished such a feat back then.
Just then, several different paths appeared before them.
Gu Xiande looked at Lin Yun. "Which way should we go next? You should know what we're here for."
The Sishui Heavenly Palace had four main gates—north, south, east, and west—but eventually, they would have to confront the Crimson Ghost Sect here.
"All paths lead there," Lin Yun said, pointing a shaky finger toward the grand hall at the very center. That was the core of the entire palace. The Wuyang Jade, as well as any other treasures, should be inside that main hall.
At this, Gu Xiande finally breathed a sigh of relief. He glanced back. They had already lost ten percent of their people just climbing the stairs. If only he had known in advance, perhaps he could have made preparations. But it was too late for regrets now.
"Keep moving. Everyone, be careful," he commanded, then shot another look at Lin Yun. "There shouldn't be any more dangers this time, right? If there are, speak up immediately. Don't blame me for not reminding you; if a real problem arises, I will also be the first to deal with you."
Lin Yun just smiled and shook his head. "Sect Master Gu, don't you think you're overcomplicating things? I doubt I could survive in the Sishui Heavenly Palace all by myself."
Shangguan Wan also chimed in, "Sect Master, for now, we should place more trust in Lin Yun." In a situation like this, even the slightest internal conflict could lead to their doom.
Gu Xiande nodded.
Lin Yun, meanwhile, was continuously checking his panel. It seemed the previous trial was the last one. His panel showed no new problems. The others had, at most, found some insignificant treasures. Was it going to be smooth sailing from here?
With this question in mind, Lin Yun walked at the front of the group.
But after nearly half an hour had passed, he realized something was wrong. It seemed like they were constantly moving forward, but in reality, they had been walking in place the entire time.
Have I fallen into someone's illusion? Lin Yun was inwardly shocked. With his cultivation, how could someone have trapped him so silently?
"Sect Master Gu," Lin Yun called out.
Gu Xiande had also realized the problem. "Are we in an illusion? From the beginning until now, I feel like I've just been walking in circles."
Before them was a long, winding corridor suspended between the clouds. For anyone who had never been here before, it would be incredibly easy to get completely lost. This was one of the reasons they hadn't noticed sooner. But with Lin Yun's reminder, everyone else instantly became aware of the problem.
Zhen Pingqing also stopped. "How is that possible? We didn't sense a thing."
Shangguan Wan frowned. "It can only mean that what we have been seeing from the very beginning was wrong."
Lin Yun remained silent. Just then, he saw his panel slowly begin to change.
[Name]: Lin Yun
[Realm]: Sky-Soaring Realm - Stage 1
[Destiny Template]: Mediocre (White)
[Attributes]: Immaculate Sword Physique (Purple), Asura (Purple), Pure Sword Heart (Blue) [Fate]: During a fierce battle at the Flowing Cloud Sect, he is ultimately defeated by his opponent on the spot.
[Recent Turning Point]: Sees through the Sishui Heavenly Palace's illusionary trick, leading everyone into the real Sishui Heavenly Palace. However, by forcefully opening the Panlong Cauldron to seize the Wuyang Jade, he is instead grievously wounded and awakens the guardian spirit beast 'Chentian' that protects it.
Damn it. This place really is full of traps, Lin Yun cursed inwardly.
The scene before them began to dissolve and reform. After the mist dissipated, the heavenly palace in their eyes was no longer so brilliant. It was desolate and seething with an aura of death. It was clearly a place that had not been visited by anyone for many years.
Lin Yun took a deep breath. "Sect Master Gu, we are about to run into the people from the Crimson Ghost Sect. You are all great figures. My only job this time was to ensure you had a chance to get the item. You should be able to let me leave after this, right?"
Gu Xiande smiled and patted Lin Yun's shoulder, as if he could already see the Wuyang Jade in his own hands. "Lin Yun, let bygones be bygones. Of course we can let you leave."
If he hadn't already seen through this man's character, Lin Yun might have actually believed him. But for now, he didn't say anything more.
The path ahead was much safer. With the illusion gone, they soon arrived at the central location. And there, they naturally saw the people of the Crimson Ghost Sect. However, the rival sect looked far more miserable than they did; almost every single person was wounded.
The leader, Ancestor Xuemi, looked particularly grim.
"Tsk tsk, seeing Ancestor Xuemi like this, it seems you haven't had an easy time in the palace," Gu Xiande couldn't help but taunt, seeing their disgraced, ash-covered appearance. He had come this time specifically to deal with her. He had heard that she possessed an Ancient Soul-Reaping Banner, a very dangerous item that ordinary cultivators could not handle. For now, only Gu Xiande himself could stop her.
Ancestor Xuemi just glanced at him coolly, her gaze finally landing on Lin Yun. It was definitely this damned boy again. Every single time, this boy ruined her plans. She was furious, but she still managed a cold sneer.
"Gu Xiande, don't celebrate too early. We have only just entered the Sishui Heavenly Palace."
The people of the Crimson Ghost Sect did not rush to attack. For now, everyone was in a state of extreme tension, swords drawn and crossbows bent, waiting for an opportunity.
Lin Yun, meanwhile, acted as if none of this had anything to do with him.
When the group finally arrived at the very center of the Sishui Heavenly Palace, they at last saw the so-called Panlong Cauldron.
