Chapter 116: [116] A Different Police Department
The first experiment, all in all, had gone pretty well. Though the injection dose was small and caused mild reactions, those reactions gradually faded over time.
Naturally, both men were left physically weak afterward. But luckily, it didn't affect much—after all, the Uchiha clan was no longer hanging by a thread.
They had time to recover, and their main job for now was just overseeing clan matters.
"They're still adjusting to the new power. A second round of testing won't be possible anytime soon," Yuhara noted.
He was quite invested in their progress. Even if they couldn't evolve their eyes into the Eternal Mangekyō, being able to use their current powers without limits was already a huge win.
Plus, Yuhara knew the truth of the Uchiha's roots—what he was doing was, in a way, restoring the clan's missing Ōtsutsuki genetic chain.
Senju and Uchiha had once been one. Who knew what kind of biological chaos Ōtsutsuki Hamura stirred up to split that power so unevenly?
Yuhara suspected it might've been some "sealed-my-own-mom" overkill. How did he even end up fathering kids like that?
Still, none of that really mattered. What mattered now was whether this method could someday be used to restore the whole Uchiha gene line.
"Of course, that'll need more tests. We'll also need to train these rookies in genetics and cell biology first—can't just wing it."
While the experimentation would take time, Yuhara shifted focus back to clan affairs. The reforms had been running for a while—he was curious about the results.
He was confident in the clan, having taught many of the lessons himself, but the Police Department? Not so much. Reports looked fine, but he needed to see for himself.
"Besides, this is our main channel to integrate with Konoha and voice the clan's stance—we can't mess this up."
The Police Department had become critical under his leadership. It was their voice in Konoha. Their mouthpiece to express demands.
Yuhara had to be careful. Hiruzen and his cronies definitely weren't done yet. The fight wasn't over.
If he couldn't destroy their ideology, maybe he could at least destroy the people carrying it.
But taking on the Hokage? Not exactly a casual Saturday hobby.
He still wanted to operate in Konoha, so careful prep and planning were key.
Just as he was thinking about the department, trouble flared up elsewhere.
It was November now. A fresh snowfall had just blanketed Konoha.
While peace wasn't perfect, kids' laughter echoed in the streets. Snowball fights broke out, snowmen dotted the trees—frozen fingers and red cheeks didn't dampen the fun.
Ninja, meanwhile, gathered in taverns, enjoying hot drinks and gossip—especially in one bar known for its friendly retired jōnin owner.
The cozy warmth inside made it a popular hangout, even for jōnin.
One particular night, drunken chatter turned to the Uchiha's recent clash with Danzo.
Seeing Yuhara unleash Susanoo and its waterbird dance had given everyone a whole new respect for Uchiha power.
Though many still disliked the clan, ninja respected strength—and the Uchiha's actions had logic behind them. That earned grudging respect from some.
But not everyone was impressed. One guy praising Yuhara triggered a group that still resented how he, Shisui, and Fugaku had pressured the Hokage. That kind of move shocked a lot of civilian ninja.
Tempers flared. One side claimed the Uchiha were justified—Danzo's schemes forced their hand, and even the Hokage had misunderstood them.
The other side argued they had no right to challenge the Hokage at all.
The debate got loud. Young ninja hate losing face—especially drunk ones.
No one knew who threw the first punch, but it quickly escalated into a full brawl. Spectators crowded around, cheering like it was a free-for-all tournament.
Eventually, the Police Department showed up and shut it down—dragging everyone away and restoring order.
"Ugh, just my luck…"
The next morning, Kamizono Genichi groaned, lifting his blanket and rubbing his head.
He'd been one of the fighters. It had felt amazing at the time—but now he deeply regretted it.
Especially since he'd ended up in a Police Department cell. And everyone knew their rep—bad things happened to people who ended up there.
He'd heard all the horror stories—like being punished for saying the wrong thing, or subjected to something called "Great Memory Restoration Technique."
The PD had always been painted as a corrupt, ruthless unit.
"Kamizono Genichi. Please come with us."
A uniformed officer called out. The man looked polite, but something about him felt... off. Genichi was too nervous to dwell on it. He followed quietly.
Soon, they reached a small room where a stern-looking man waited.
Genichi gulped. When the door shut behind him, panic kicked in.
He imagined the worst—say the wrong thing, and it's memory recovery time.
As a civilian ninja, he knew better than to oppose powerful clans or departments.
"Kamizono Genichi, correct?"
The man suddenly smiled—not kindly, but not cruelly either.
It froze Genichi in place.
Then came a sentence that made his brain short-circuit:
"My name is Uchiha Tatsuya. I'll be handling your case.
This room is under surveillance. Everything we say or do will be recorded.
Please explain what happened truthfully. You do have the right to remain silent—but that won't work in your favor.
I'm also obligated to tell you why you were detained and what kind of punishment you might face.
Understood, Chūnin Kamizono?"
"Ah... y-yes!"
Genichi answered in a daze. He hadn't expected any of this.
They actually told him the room was monitored—meaning the process would be recorded. No "recovered memories" nonsense.
They also explained his charges, the law he broke, and potential consequences.
This wasn't the brutal, hated PD everyone feared. What the hell was going on?
And wait—wasn't he wrapped in a blanket this morning?
Even though ninja could handle the cold, a night in a cell wasn't pleasant. And the PD had... given him a blanket?
Everything was backwards.
One thought echoed through his mind:
"Am I dreaming? Or have we been seriously wrong about the Police Department all along?"
