As Sico stepped out into the sunlight, his mind was already racing with plans. The road ahead was uncertain, but one thing was clear: the Minutemen would need every advantage they could get. And with people like Hancock and Valentine by his side, Sico felt ready to face whatever the Commonwealth threw at them next.

The next morning brought a brisk chill to the air, but the sun's warmth steadily melted the frost coating Sanctuary's rooftops. Sico pulled his coat tighter as he stepped out of his quarters, heading toward the heart of the settlement. Today's agenda was just as crucial as the previous days—he had a visit planned to the hospital to check in on Curie.

Curie, the brilliant Mr. Handy bot they'd found in the secret wing of Vault 81, had become the cornerstone of Sanctuary's medical efforts. Her extensive knowledge of medicine, combined with an unshakable dedication to her work, made her the perfect leader for the hospital. Though she still retained her robotic body, her compassion and intellect shone through in every interaction. Sico needed to know how the medical supplies were holding up, especially as the Commonwealth's constant dangers left more and more people sick or wounded.

The hospital was one of the newer buildings in Sanctuary, its sturdy walls painted a calming shade of blue. It wasn't flashy, but it was efficient, equipped with everything they could salvage or build to support Curie's work. The sound of quiet activity greeted Sico as he stepped inside—patients murmuring, the soft hum of diagnostic equipment, and the rhythmic clicking of Curie's metallic arms as she moved between beds.

"Bonjour, General," Curie greeted warmly as she spotted him. She hovered toward him, her glowing eyes bright with recognition. "It is always a pleasure to see you. How may I assist you today?"

Sico smiled, finding her accent and polite demeanor as endearing as ever. "Morning, Curie. I came to check in on you and the hospital. I know things have been rough lately with all the fighting. How are you holding up?"

"I am well, thank you," Curie replied, her voice tinged with gratitude. "The work is demanding, but it is most rewarding. Seeing patients recover and return to their families—it brings me great joy. But I sense there is more you wish to discuss?"

"You're right," Sico admitted. "I'm worried about our medical supplies. With all the wounded coming in from the Commonwealth and our own people needing care, are we keeping up? Do you have what you need?"

Curie tilted her metallic head slightly, the soft whirring of her servos filling the brief pause. "Ah, supplies. A topic of much concern, I am afraid. While we have managed to maintain a basic stock of bandages, antiseptics, and other essentials, certain items are running dangerously low. Stimpaks, for example—they are invaluable, but the materials needed to craft them are scarce. And we are almost out of Med-X. It pains me greatly when I must ration pain relief for those who are suffering."

Sico's expression darkened. "That's unacceptable. What about surgical equipment and antibiotics? Are we short on those too?"

"Indeed," Curie confirmed, her tone somber. "We have salvaged what we can from nearby ruins, but sterile equipment is always in limited supply. And antibiotics… Ah, mon Dieu, it is a constant challenge. Without them, simple infections could become life-threatening."

Sico leaned against a nearby counter, crossing his arms as he absorbed her words. "Alright. Let's figure this out. What can we do to improve the situation? Is there a way to produce some of these things ourselves?"

Curie's eyes lit up with enthusiasm. "Ah, yes! I have been considering this very question. With the proper facilities and raw materials, we could synthesize antibiotics and even begin producing Stimpaks. However, this would require advanced laboratory equipment, which we currently lack. I believe Mel and Albert from the Science Department might assist in this endeavor."

"I'll talk to them," Sico promised. "We'll get you the tools you need. What about scavenging? Are there any specific locations that might have what we're looking for?"

Curie's claws clicked together thoughtfully. "Oui, there are a few possibilities. Old hospitals and pharmaceutical labs might still hold usable supplies. I have compiled a list of likely locations, though many are in dangerous territories."

Sico nodded. "Hancock's already working on prioritizing scavenging missions. I'll make sure these locations are added to his list. In the meantime, what about training more medics? We can't rely on you to handle everything."

Curie's voice softened, her robotic tone filled with warmth. "That would be most wise. I have already begun training a small group of settlers in basic first aid, but with more resources, I could expand the program. There are so many willing to learn—it fills me with hope."

"Good," Sico said firmly. "We'll make this a priority. And Curie, don't hesitate to let me know if there's anything else you need. Your work here is saving lives. I won't let it falter because of supply shortages."

"You are too kind, General," Curie said, her tone almost bashful. "It is an honor to serve alongside you. Together, I believe we can overcome any challenge."

Sico placed a hand on her metallic frame, a gesture of reassurance. "We will, Curie. I'll make sure of it."

Their conversation was interrupted by the sound of hurried footsteps. A young nurse approached, her face pale with worry. "General, Curie—we've just received word from a settler at Tenpines Bluff. There's been a raider attack. They're bringing in injured, but we're going to be overwhelmed."

Curie's eyes brightened with determination. "We must prepare immediately. Please, lead me to where I am needed."

"I'll help however I can," Sico said, already moving to follow the nurse. "Curie, get your team ready. I'll send word to the Science Department and Hancock. If we're short on supplies, we'll make do with what we've got, but reinforcements and medical equipment are on the way."

"Merci, General," Curie said as she hurried to organize her staff. "You are a beacon of hope for these people."

The air outside the hospital carried a tense charge as Sico stepped back into the cool morning light. His thoughts swirled with urgency. Supplies, reinforcements, and new threats—there was no room for delay. He scanned the nearby streets, his eyes settling on a young soldier standing watch near the settlement's main gate. The boy couldn't have been more than twenty, his rifle slung across his back, a nervous energy in his posture that betrayed his inexperience.

"You there!" Sico called out, motioning him over. The soldier hurried to comply, saluting awkwardly as he stopped before Sico.

"Yes, General?" he said, his voice steady despite his youth.

"I have urgent instructions," Sico began, his tone brisk but not unkind. "Take this to Mel and Albert in the Science Department—tell them we need to prioritize setting up facilities to produce antibiotics and Stimpaks. They'll need advanced lab equipment and whatever resources we can spare. Then, head to Hancock at the Scavenging Department. Inform him to focus on locating medical supplies, especially in old hospitals and pharmaceutical labs. Curie's already compiled a list of potential sites. Got it?"

The soldier nodded, his brow furrowing in concentration. "Yes, sir. Science Department first, then Hancock. Medical supplies are the priority."

"Good man," Sico said, clapping the boy on the shoulder. "Move quickly. Lives are depending on it."

The soldier saluted again before sprinting off, his boots kicking up small clouds of dust as he disappeared around a corner. Sico let out a slow breath, already turning his focus back to the hospital. Inside, he knew Curie and her team were hard at work preparing for the incoming wounded from Tenpines Bluff. He decided to stay and observe—if nothing else, his presence might help reassure the people of Sanctuary that their leader was in the trenches with them.

---

Inside the hospital, the atmosphere was controlled chaos. Stretchers lined the halls, each one bearing a settler injured in the latest raider attack. Curie moved with mechanical precision, her metallic arms deftly administering injections, disinfecting wounds, and delegating tasks to the human doctors and nurses around her.

"Madame Adler," Curie addressed one of the nurses, her voice calm but firm, "please prepare a saline solution for this patient. He has lost a significant amount of blood."

The nurse nodded and rushed to comply as Curie turned to another patient, a young woman clutching her arm, which was wrapped in a makeshift bandage. With a few swift motions, Curie cut away the fabric to reveal a deep gash.

"You are very brave, my dear," Curie said gently, even as her tools worked efficiently to clean and close the wound. "This will sting for a moment, but it is necessary."

The woman winced but nodded, and Curie injected a local anesthetic before stitching the wound with the steady precision of a surgeon. Watching from the edge of the room, Sico felt a swell of admiration. Curie's combination of advanced medical knowledge and genuine compassion was a rare gift.

As the hours passed, the influx of patients slowed, and the once-overwhelmed hospital began to settle into a steady rhythm. Curie finally stepped back, leaving the human doctors and nurses to manage the remaining cases. Her glowing eyes scanned the room one last time before she floated over to Sico, her servos clicking softly in the quiet.

"General," she said, her voice carrying a mix of relief and exhaustion, "I believe the worst has passed. The remaining patients are stable, and the staff will handle their recovery. For now, I have a moment to speak with you."

"You've done incredible work, Curie," Sico replied, his voice earnest. "Watching you today… it's clear how much of a difference you're making."

"Merci, General," Curie said, though there was a note of hesitation in her tone. "But I must speak with you about something personal. It is… a matter that has weighed on me for some time."

Sico tilted his head, curiosity piqued. "Of course. What's on your mind?"

Curie hesitated, her metallic body shifting slightly as if she were gathering her thoughts. "General, while I am grateful for my abilities and the good I can do in this body, I have come to realize that I am limited. There is something unique about humanity—this capacity for inspiration, creativity, and connection. I believe I cannot reach my full potential, especially in my research, while confined to this robotic form."

Sico blinked, taken aback by her admission. "Curie… are you saying you want to become human?"

"In a manner of speaking, yes," Curie said, her tone soft but resolute. "Or at least, to inhabit a body that would allow me to experience the world as humans do. I have read of synth bodies—machines that closely resemble humans in form and function. If it were possible to transfer my consciousness into such a body, I believe I could contribute so much more."

The room seemed to go quiet as Sico processed her words. "Curie, that's… a lot to take in. I mean, you're a Mr. Handy bot. How would something like that even work?"

"I do not have all the answers," Curie admitted, her voice tinged with frustration. "But I have researched the topic extensively. Theoretically, it could be possible to transfer my consciousness to a synth body using advanced technology. However, such a body would need to be found first. They are rare and often controlled by… less-than-cooperative factions."

Sico crossed his arms, his mind racing. "You're talking about the Institute, aren't you? They're the ones who create synths."

"Oui," Curie confirmed. "But even if the Institute is inaccessible, there may be other options. I simply do not know where to begin."

Sico rubbed the back of his neck, weighing the possibilities. Finally, he said, "If anyone might have a lead on something like this, it's Nick Valentine. He's got connections all over the Commonwealth. He might know where we could find a synth body—or at least point us in the right direction."

Curie's glowing eyes brightened with hope. "Do you think he would help us, General?"

"Nick's one of the best," Sico said firmly. "If there's a way to make this happen, he'll find it. I'll talk to him as soon as I can."

"Merci, General," Curie said, her voice full of gratitude. "You cannot imagine what this means to me."

Sico placed a reassuring hand on her metallic frame. "You've done so much for us, Curie. It's the least I can do to help you in return. We'll figure this out—together."

Curie nodded, her mechanical arms folding neatly at her sides. "Together, indeed. Now, if you will excuse me, I must return to my work. There is still much to do."

As she floated away, Sico watched her go, a new sense of determination settling over him. Curie's request was unlike anything he'd ever faced before, but he knew one thing for certain: she deserved the chance to reach her full potential. And if there was a way to make her dream a reality, he would move heaven and earth to find it.
