Chapter 4: A Slave contract
"I don't mind joining hands with a demon in order to achieve my goal, no matter what it will take for me to enact my revenge, I'm ready to go down the drain, if it means I could reciprocate the feeling of betrayal and despair back to my family, thought Lucien, asking Old Hal to help him achieve his goal.
"I know how much animosity the demons have towards the angels, and I don't mind being used if it meant I could cause the least amount of pain to my family," Lucien said, causing Old Hal to furrow his eyebrows.
"You are on your own, what makes you think you can get back at your people?"asked Old Hal amusingly.
"Alone, I know I can't do much, but if we join forces after helping me unseal my powers, we will have a shot at giving them a run for their money. It's a win-win deal – you'll get your revenge for the attack on the demon realm millions of years ago and take control of the Ruler's throne, which the demons have coveted for years. And I get to enact my revenge on my family," Lucien argued.
"Hearing you mention the attack on the demon realm, I feel like killing you right here and now, but I won't. Keeping you alive will be more beneficial. But I hope you know what you're getting yourself into? You're not spouting nonsense because you want me to spare your life, right?" asked Old Hal, as he proceeded to materialize a purple orb emitting an ominous vibe with dark energy swelling in it.
"Drop your blood onto this orb – a contract to bind your life, making you a slave to me. With this, just a flick of my hand will be enough to drop you dead if you plan to play smart," instructed Old Hal with a sinister smile on his face.
A hesitant expression appeared on Lucien's face, as if weighing the choice between his freedom and revenge. After some time, he dropped his blood on the orb when Old Hal allowed some form of movement in his constraint, choosing revenge over freedom – for he wouldn't be allowed to live anyway if he didn't choose to be a slave.
A bright light appeared on the orb after Lucien's blood was greedily sucked into it, as if announcing the new contract between the master and the slave. Afterward, Lucien was finally released from his constraint.
"Unsealing of powers wouldn't be easy so don't raise your hopes high", Old Hal said after Lucien took a shower and change into a comfy clothing. "There is only one way I know of which can help you unseal your powers, and that is to cultivate as a human. Your whole being of existence must be modified to that of the humans cultivation system, and that is the only way I can help you unseal your powers", Old Hal explained.
"But I tell you, the process will be filled with excruciating pains that will make you prefer death over anything, but if you are able to see through it, you will be able to start cultivating from the scratch in order to unlock all your divine abilities and powers", Old Hal warned, to which Lucien nodded, indicating his ready to go through anything to achieve his goal.
"Before that, let me take you through the cultivation system of the humans. The humans cultivate by forming an initial connection with the realm's core which gives them the ability to manipulate and fill their soul core with soul essence from the atmosphere. The soul essence is in turn used to cause a sync between the body, mind and soul. The more you achieve this sync, the higher you ascend through stages, unlocking new abilities and enhancements. The humans usually form the initial connection in the early stage of their life, but there are others whose connection took long, and cases of those who were not able to achieve the initial connection throughout their life.
The stages are from the Resonance stage, where the mortal is termed to be awakened, thus achieving the initial connection, to the transcendence stage, where the human transcend mortal limit, achieving a state of spiritual evolution where he gains access to new realms, and become capable of traversing through realms without needing a Link as a medium of travel, while also gaining different form of existence", explained Old Hal, filling Lucien's head with too much information that he wondered if he had asked for a lecture on humans life or for help, in order to unseal his divine abilities.
After telling Lucien the transformation would be done three days later after the necessary preparation, Old Hal left him to his own devices, knowing he wouldn't have any thought of escaping with the slave contract in place, and even without it, he couldn't really leave the building due to the impenetrable shield in place.
Lucien was left alone, and the reality of the situation finally dawning on him, a mixture of emotions appeared on his face. Contemplating the crime he had committed that was making him go through all this, he lay on the small-sized bed at the other side of the empty room, stared blankly at the ceiling and drifted off to sleep after some time.
The next morning, Lucien was woken by a knock on his door by Old Hal calling him downstairs to have the morning's breakfast.
"Old Man, are you the only occupant of this building ?", Lucien asked, causing Old Hal to be surprised about his tone, as if he no more care about his predicament.
"My name is Old Hal, call me that, and what happened last night for you to be this calm, I was thinking you will be all moody after what happened yesterday?" Old Hal leaned forward, his eyes narrowing.
"Whining like a cry baby wouldn't change anything, I just have to accept my predicament, and that is when I will be able to make something out of it", replied Lucien with a calm expression on his face as he made himself comfortable by the table full of salivating dishes, ready to dig in at any point, as if he were at his home, and it wasn't lost on him that the one in front of him was the very enemy who had reduced him to no less than a slave.
After the meal, Lucien told Old Hal he wanted to tour the city to get familiarized with it, which Old Hal shrugged, indicating he was allowed to do whatever he wanted.
"Wow, so this is the capital of the human realm," Lucien said, awed, as he went through the vibrant streets of the city.
The streets were filled with different shops selling all kinds of weapons, some he recognized, others he did not, potions, herbs, and all kinds of things used by the humans. There were places where beast cores were exchanged for money, and others that traded beast cores for weapons. Blacksmith shops lined at one part of the street, as if that was the designated place for creating all kinds of weapons, with carriages moving up and down. In all, he was surprised by the peacefulness of the city, which was occasionally broken by commotions between buyers and sellers, thieves being chased down the streets, and people in wealthy clothing shoving commoners to the ground, as if to flaunt their strength and status.
As he continued to walk down the street, women kept sneaking peeks at him, with some brazen ones winking at him whenever they passed by him, making both the younger and older men eye him with envy for his looks. This made Lucien feel awkward, for he didn't know how he had wronged them, he didn't want to face any trouble which could give his identity away, having no idea that Old Hal had already sealed his aura and made him look like any other human in the face of the strongest human, back in the forest.
