Chapter 87: Sword Flash
"Female?!"
Lucy was a little surprised to see that the newcomer was a woman; she didn't expect that there were women among the bad guys.
Ikaruga covered her mouth with her sleeve and chuckled, "Aah, little girl, aren't you a girl too?"
"Su Yan! Leave this guy to me!" Lucy had just defeated a lot of people in a row, and her confidence was swelling a bit.
The opponent was a woman, and Lucy felt she could handle it.
"Open it! The Gate of Taurus! Taurus!" Lucy took out the Taurus zodiac key and activated her Celestial Spirit Magic.
"Wow—!"
A humanoid bull holding a large double-bladed axe appeared in front of Lucy.
"Taurus, kill this woman!"
Taurus yelled, "Alaa—!"
He immediately swung the big axe down towards Ikaruga.
"Aah! What a rude, smelly man. Rude guys don't please girls!"
"What?!"
When Taurus's axe was about to hit Ikaruga, he suddenly stopped, disbelief filling his eyes.
How is this possible?
"What happened to you, Taurus? Why did you stop?!"
"Lucy, be careful!"
As soon as Taurus finished speaking, a crack appeared on his body, as if he had been sliced clean in half.
"Om!" Taurus disappeared into smoke.
"Wh-What?!"
Lucy's face changed drastically. What just happened? Her most powerful Celestial Spirit was struck down in an instant—she didn't even see it happen.
A Celestial Spirit that's seriously injured won't die permanently, but will return to the Celestial Spirit World, needing time before it can be summoned again.
If all a Celestial Spirit Mage's spirits are defeated, the mage is as helpless as a lamb to the slaughter.
"I'm no ordinary passerby, little girl."
"Open it! The Gate of Sagittarius! Sagittarius!" Lucy immediately summoned another Celestial Spirit. Since her melee Taurus was defeated, she called forth a ranged Celestial Spirit.
"Moshimoshi!" A man in a strange puppet-like costume appeared.
"Sagittarius, attack!"
The puppet-costumed man raised his bow and arrow, shooting at Ikaruga.
"Hehe, do you think distance will help?"
"Sword Flash!"
Ikaruga quickly drew her sword, producing a cherry-colored slash that not only split Sagittarius's arrow, but also continued straight toward Lucy.
Lucy's face paled. She couldn't dodge—she felt like she was about to be sliced in two.
Suddenly, a hand appeared in front of Lucy and caught the slash, then squeezed it hard.
"Whoosh!"
The slash shattered into magical elements and dissipated.
"Su...Su Yan?" Lucy's heart was still pounding in fear. Thankfully, Su Yan was beside her; otherwise, she'd surely be dead.
"Lucy, stand back a bit. I'll deal with this one." Su Yan was interested now. This woman was strong, too strong for Lucy's current level.
Lucy nodded and stepped back. Her earlier confidence vanished after seeing Ikaruga easily dispatch Taurus and nearly kill her. Now she knew her strength was far from enough.
She also realized how Taurus was defeated—the woman's sword speed was so fast that Lucy's eyes couldn't catch it.
"As expected of the Immortal Demon Emperor Su Yan. He easily stopped my slash," Ikaruga commented.
"It's said that the Undead Demon Emperor Su Yan's strongest point is his defense. They say no one can break it, hence the title Undead Demon Emperor."
"This little girl wants to test whether Master Su's defense is truly unbreakable."
Su Yan looked at Ikaruga and said, "Go ahead, but be ready to die."
Ikaruga smiled. "Death is like summer flowers—born so gorgeously and dying so beautifully. For a woman, leaving this world at her most beautiful moment is also a kind of happiness, isn't it?"
"Madwoman!" Lucy shuddered. This person clearly wasn't normal.
"Really? Then you can die now."
"Om—!"
Su Yan's body instantly emanated a formidable aura as he rushed toward Ikaruga.
"Moonless Sword Flash!!"
Ikaruga wielded her sword and unleashed a slash.
Su Yan activated his Haki. The slash came at him, and with a "Humph!" Su Yan raised his hand to block Ikaruga's slash, then shifted to the side.
"Boom!!"
A large hole was smashed into the wall.
"Yikes!" Lucy yelped in surprise.
Though Su Yan's aura was strong, without sufficient cohesion, its offensive power was limited.
"You blocked it? What about this?!"
"Moonless Flow Multiple Swords Flash!"
Ikaruga gripped her sword and swung it rapidly.
A series of fierce slashes streaked toward Su Yan at extreme speed.
"Boom! Boom! Boom!!"
Su Yan stood in place, letting the terrifying slashes rain down on him. The ground beneath his feet cracked from the impact.
"Su Yan!!" Lucy screamed, horrified. Could Su Yan withstand such a terrifying assault?
Soon, Lucy saw him again. Su Yan's clothes were torn in several places.
Through these gaps, Lucy noticed that Su Yan's body wasn't injured. His skin wasn't even cut. There were only a few white marks where the sword strikes had landed, and those marks were already fading.
"Not bad, that almost hurt me." Su Yan glanced down at his body, then looked up at Ikaruga with a smile.
Ikaruga's pupils shrank. She'd heard rumors of Su Yan's incredible defense but hadn't believed it. Her swords were sharp and new; no matter how tough someone was, she trusted she could cut them down.
Yet her attacks hadn't even drawn blood, only leaving faint white marks that vanished moments later. The legend was true.
"Monster!" Ikaruga hissed.
