Chapter 86: Ikaruga
"Etherion?!!"
Almost everyone was taken aback, even Su Yan's expression changed.
The Magic Council's ultimate weapon of destruction—Etherion—wasn't something even he was confident about surviving if directly hit. However, Etherion was mainly effective against stationary targets like the Tower of Heaven. In Su Yan's case, he could potentially avoid it with his speed, but most mages would be doomed. Its destructive range was massive, like a nuclear weapon. Once fired, escape was nearly impossible for ordinary mages.
"Is he crazy?!"
"That's Etherion! Everyone would die!"
"Maybe he's just bluffing," Gray said.
Erza said, "Whether he's bluffing or not, we have to rescue the people. To move faster, let's split up."
"Wally, Millianna, Sho, you three stay on the first floor to handle those we rescue."
Sho immediately protested: "No!! I won't let anyone else touch my sister Erza! Jellal will be defeated by me."
Erza understood Sho's feelings. After being deceived by Jellal for eight years, Sho's hatred was intense.
"Fine, you come with me. Wally, Millianna, you two handle getting the rescued people outside."
Wally and Millianna nodded.
"I'm going with Lord Gray," Juvia said.
Gray frowned: "There's no need for you to get involved."
"Lord Gray's business is mine. If anyone wants to harm Lord Gray, they have to get past me," Juvia insisted.
Gray wanted to say more, but Simon interjected: "Then I'll go with Salamander."
"Although I don't know what's going on, I just need to defeat Jellal! I'm fired up!" Natsu said, clenching his fist.
Lucy facepalmed: "Listen carefully!"
"I must beat that guy first!!"
"Love!"
Natsu yelled and dashed off, with Happy flying after him.
"Salamander, wait for me!" Simon hurriedly followed.
Simon was worried because Jellal's tactic clearly aimed to separate them, reducing their combined strength. But they had no choice. If Etherion was going to hit, time was of the essence.
Soon everyone scattered, leaving only Lucy and Su Yan together. Lucy felt a bit uneasy, as it was her first time teaming up with Su Yan. Still, she was relieved—he was undoubtedly the strongest here.
They moved upwards through the tower. Many enemies attacked along the way, but Su Yan deliberately let Lucy fight. Lucy summoned her Celestial Spirits and managed to defeat many foes.
Su Yan realized it was the first time he'd really seen Lucy's Celestial Spirit Magic in a proper fight. It resembled summoning magic. A Celestial Spirit's strength depended on the mage's magic power, and the stronger the master, the stronger the spirit could fight.
All rescued individuals were to gather on the first floor, where Millianna and Wally waited. Once enough were saved, they'd send them away by boat.
"How about that, Su Yan? I'm pretty strong too!" Lucy said, slightly out of breath. She wanted to help, not just tag along.
Su Yan smiled and nodded: "Your magic is strong. In the future, when your magic power increases, you can summon multiple Celestial Spirits at once. If they cooperate, their combined power will be like fusion magic. Also, summoning magic's weakness is often the summoner's fragility. But you can borrow a Celestial Spirit's power to strengthen yourself. Then you'll have no obvious weakness."
Lucy was stunned. Was he the Celestial Spirit Mage or was she? She knew about opening multiple gates, but doing so required a lot of magical power. She could only open one now. She'd never even thought about receiving Celestial Spirits' power herself.
It was like Su Yan had opened a new door for her. If she could use Taurus's power, she'd be strong physically. If she could borrow Sagittarius's power, she could become an archer. Then she could fight personally, just like Su Yan, Natsu, and Erza did.
She knew it would take hard work, but now she had a goal.
"Su Yan—" Lucy began, wanting to say more.
Su Yan stopped and said, "Enemies are coming."
"Enemies?" Lucy looked ahead.
A figure approached, humming softly. Cherry blossoms seemed to drift around her as she walked. It was a beautiful woman in a white kimono, with long pinkish hair and tall wooden sandals. She carried a long sword in her arms and looked like a geisha.
"The little girl Ikaruga, who belongs to the Trinity Raven under Death's Head Caucus, greets Master Su Yan."
