Chapter 9 - Ready to Progress
Slowly but surely, Xue Jiang was expanding his knowledge of alchemy. He had become proficient in crafting the health philtre, and was ready to move on to other alchemy recipes.
Xue Jiang pours a bowl jasmin flowers into a pot, then a larger bowl of white sandalwood powder. He then pours in a vial of jasmin oil, almond oil, and white sandalwood oil into the mixture. Then he throws in a bowl of myrrh resin, before using his spiritual flame to offer a light heat, allowing the medicinal ingredients to meld easier as he grinded the mixture with his pestle. Eventually the ingredients melded into a cohesive whole; a fragrant meditation incense.
This sort of thing, if it was placed in an incense burner, could directly increase the speed of cultivation for Qi Gathering and Foundation Establishment practitioners. If it was lit before entering meditation, it could affect subconscious mind of the practitioner, and there was a good chance it could stimulate a breakthrough. If you were lucky, placing this next to you while you sleep could allow the cultivator to enter the Spirit Realm. Though the chance was rare, if it occurs, there would be an opportunity to receive benefits from friendly spirits.
It was said that some spirits could see into your past and future, allowing them to solve inner demons, and avoid near-death experiences; if they find you pleasing to the eye, they could even directly influence your love life!
Some spirits were also quite powerful, and if they could be contracted, they would be a blessing in many ways to the practitioner’s life.
…
…
Along with the health philters, the meditation incense was very popular. There were a lot of Qi Gathering and Foundation Establishment practitioners in Coiling Snake city who were in great need of this thing. Xue Jiang even sold it for thirty spiritual stones, which was slightly higher than the alchemy stores.
Considering Xue Jiang’s ample increase in his spiritual stones income, he may finally be able to afford a sword, and continue his exploration of sword techniques.
After he had been kicked out of the True Sword sect, they had taken back the sword he used, and Xue Jiang became a sword-less swordsman. If anyone knew, it was possible that Xue Jiang would directly die from shame.
With enough money, Xue Jiang directly went to the Night Forge Armory; this was a top-tier weapon shop in Coiling Snake city, and one of the few places he could buy a sword that was born with a sword spirit.
It had to be said that a sword with a spirit was many times stronger in battle than a sword without a spirit. If a sword had a spirit, it could communicate with the swordsman, and the effect of their sword techniques would multiply. If the spirit matched the swordsman, the effect was even better.
Also, if the swordsman was faithful, there were ways for his sword to cultivate alongside him, growing in power, to walk the long road of cultivation together.
Xue Jiang walks into the store and begins to look around. He immediately felt the sharp auras of several swords, somewhat causing him to be startled. Xue Jiang even felt that some of these swords would be too dangerous for someone of his level to possess.
That’s not good. I better find a gentle sword who’s easy to get along with, otherwise, one day, I may not even know how I died! Xue Jiang thinks with some worry.
Xue Jiang had always been a cautious person, if not somewhat cowardly. His motto was ‘a strong cultivator was a living cultivator.’ Even if he had to resort to being cowardly, forced to bow his head to all sorts of people, and live in their shadows like a mouse; as long as he was a live, there was still a possibility of success.
Seeing all sorts of sword options, Xue Jiang simply closed his eyes to better feel the sword auras in the store. If he was lucky he would find a matching spirit, and at that point, the world would be Xue Jiang’s oyster; him and his sword would be unbeatable!
Slowly, he felt a deep, silent aura, filled with a cold intent. It was the sort of sword that could directly make a killing strike without saying a word.
Xue Jiang opens his eyes and begins to seek out the sword.
On display was a long, slender sword, that was cold and as dark as the night.
Xue Jiang picks it up, a shrill frequency echoes out, signaling a resonance in their spirits. Xue Jiang lets out a big smile. “Hah! What a good sword!” He says, deeply satisfied with the sword’s spirit.
A large, burly man watches this, and a smile forms on his bearded face. “It seems the Night Blade has found an owner.” Wei Xiong says, happy to see this connection. Now that he’s found it, there’s no way he’ll leave before I drain him of his spiritual stones! He thinks with a chuckle.
Xue Jiang walks over to Wei Xiong. “How much for the sword?” He asks directly.
Wei Xiong continues to smile. “How much do you got?”
…
…
Xue Jiang walks out of the store as if he had lost his soul. He put all that effort into his alchemy crafting, but in the end it barely made a dent; he was once again as poor as a beggar.
Xue Jiang lets out a sigh and draws Night Blade; the sunlight gleaming against the sword’s dark metal. “Hah! It’s still worth it!” He says, satisfied with his decision. With this purchase, as a swordsman, it could be said that Xue Jiang was whole once more.
Most of Xue Jiang’s battle techniques were sword techniques, and he had long ago purchased a Sword Evolution manual, which described various ways to cultivate a sword.
Xue Jiang lets out another sigh, thinking about the road it took to get here; although it was full of twists and turns, he was now ready to progress in his path of cultivation.
