Chapter 8 - Remain a Fisherman
After the drama, Xue Jiang chose to ignore it and continue working. It has to be said that these health philters were a staple amongst low-level cultivators and were always in demand. Considering the price that Xue Jiang was selling them, it wasn’t a surprise that he ended up fully selling his stock by the end of the day.
Xue Jiang was cleaning up his stall and preparing to head back home when he felt someone gaze focus on him. He furrows his brows and looks over. Xue Jiang raises an eyebrow. Wang Tian? He thinks, recognizing the person who was walking over.
The man was walking over with the trouble-makers he had fought with earlier in the day. Xue Jiang knew he should be expecting trouble, but he was focused on something else. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of familiarity coming from Wang Tian.
Wang Tian walks over and he senses something similar. He had recognized Xue Jiang, but he was also focused on something else.
The two old friends face each other in front of the stall, and both raise an eyebrow.
“Xue Jiang, do you have a Dragon Blood core?” Wang Tian asks.
“Hah!” Xue Jiang exclaims, smiling bitterly as he looks at Wang Tian. He was no longer the slender and handsome man in his memories; although he was still handsome, Wang Tian had gained a lot of muscle and was quite bulky. It was as if a tiger’s explosive power was hiding beneath his clothes. “You also have a Dragon Blood core?” Xue Jiang asks, somewhat doubting his senses. Who told me this thing was rare? He thinks, unsure how to feel about it.
Wang Tian lets out a sigh and gestures to his men. “Go back. From now on, nobody from the Scorpion gang can lay a hand on Brother Jiang.” He says.
Though they were somewhat bitter, the two men could only accept it and go back.
Wang Tian looks to Xue Jiang and smiles. “Let’s get something to eat; my treat. It’s been a long time since us two brothers have been able to meet.” He says, offering his invitation.
Xue Jiang lets out a bitter smile, only able to accept. “Lead the way,” he says.
…
…
Wang Tian and Xue Jiang received a private room at the Flood Dragon restaurant. They first ordered some Valley Fog tea to drink while they waited for their food.
Wang Tian takes a sip, feeling his spiritual energy stirring, before he looks to Xue Jiang. “So, tell me; how did you form the Dragon Blood core? Don’t tell me you found a Dragon Blood Cult inheritance.” He says, somewhat in doubt. Though it was unlikely, if Xue Jiang had really found an inheritance, Wang Tian would have to treat this more seriously, and it was uncertain if their friendship could survive the weight of the interests involved.
“Hah!” Xue Jiang exclaims, letting out another bitter smile. “What inheritance? I simply stumbled onto it. I wasn’t thinking when I was branding principles to my Soul Source in the Qi Gathering stage, and engraved a bunch of random stuff. Then I stalled at the Foundation Establishment stage for a decade, before I accidentally broke through and formed a Dragon Blood core. If it was up to me, I would rather not have this core; considering the history of the Dragon Blood Cult, it seems like it’s more trouble than it’s worth.” He says, explaining the matter frankly.
Wang Tian lets out a sigh. If this was true he had nothing to worry about, in fact, it could be said that these two old friends had somehow become fellow disciples on the path to unlock the secrets of the Dragon Blood core.
Xue Jiang takes a sip of tea and looks to Wang Tian. “How about you? Don’t tell me you had a recipe for this Dragon Blood core.” He asks, somewhat curious.
Wang Tian lets out a sigh. “This concerns the secret of my Wang clan. We are actually distantly related to the descendants of the Dragon Blood cult. Throughout the years, the strength of our bloodline has reduced, as well as the talent of the Wang clan descendants. Our clan has spent years trying to figure out the secrets of the Dragon Blood core, and we had somehow found a recipe for the core, but it’s said that the success of this thing is only one in ten. Currently, I’m the only Wang clan descendant who has successfully formed the Dragon Blood core.” He says, feeling that their clan had spent too much effort for this small success.
Xue Jiang’s eyes widen. Holy shit! One in ten! How many guinea pigs had to fail for this recipe to successfully produce a Dragon Blood core? He couldn’t help but wonder.
“Since we have achieved this small success, the Wang clan is doing all it can to explore the Dao of Invincibility, and open the way so that the Wang clan descendants can continue to explore further and further. Our goal is to rise to become a top-tier clan in the future.” Wang Tian says, speaking somewhat freely with his old friend. Since Xue Jiang had also formed the Dragon Blood core, there was no harm in telling him this, and they may even be able to cooperate in the future. Also, considering their old friendship, Wang Tian wouldn’t be surprised if his elders found a way to somehow propose a marriage and ensnare Xue Jiang into strengthening their bloodline.
Xue Jiang lets out sigh. “It must not be easy to become the successor for a clan. It seems you have a lot to worry about.” He says with a shake of his head. “What about the Scorpion gang; how are you related to them?” He asks, somewhat curious.
Wang Tian lets out a smirk. “It’s a trial, set up by our Wang clan elders. You must know that the Dragon Blood Cult was originally a demonic path sect. My elders wish to reinforce my Dao of Invincibility by forcing me to face the bad karma of the Scorpion gang. If I can succeed, I’ll gain all sorts of resources and my Dao will be tempered through the fire. Alas, if I fail and my losses outweigh what I’ve gained, it may affect my Dao Heart and my future path. This is why I have no choice; I must succeed!”
Xue Jiang drinks the rest of his tea. What a troublesome life. If that’s what awaits me, it may be better to go back and remain a fisherman. He couldn’t help but think.
