Chapter 64: First encounter
Horo was traveling at a fast speed but not too fast, because he didn't want to attract the wrong attention. He knew there could be some really powerful beast, but he also wasn't afraid of a challenge.
He was looking to test himself in real battle. Even though he has ridiculous amounts of battles experiences in his previous lives, he had never been in a real battle with his current body, nor has he been able to truly test his skills.
He had a lot of theoretical knowledge he wanted to apply to real battle.
In the meantime as he traveled, he kept his shadow steps and silence active at all times, even though silence couldn't be leveled up due to it being an innate skill that grows with the user, shadow steps could.
A lot of his skills couldn't level up because of that same reason, but the other skills that couldn't level up were adhering to the rules of cultivation somehow, they had to be cultivated.
And all of his fighting skills like judo weren't a part of this system yet either for some reason, maybe because they were from earth.
He suspected that under the right conditions any skill that couldn't level up could at least be evolved, or maybe it was just him with this issue of having skills that couldn't level up. He already decided to get down to the bottom of this mystery regardless, along with learning how to fuse skills.
He would look more into all of that when he reached the city he was headed to, which was a city called Ceres City. It houses one of the famous academies of the Azure Moon Kingdom, the New Torch Academy, which was where most national guard aspirants attended.
He planned to try to enroll in that academy using Valen's recommendation in order to obtain resources to grow in strength and knowledge. He could also potentially help the academy grow in fame with his potential.
As he was thinking about his short term plans he suddenly felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand upright, but before he could react, he was rammed so hard his insides trembled viciously.
His ridiculous instincts kicked in as he was rolling, and before he could hit a tree he flipped and caught himself before stabilizing his balance.
When he looked to see what hit him, he was stunned. He saw a creature that resembled a hybrid a bear and a wolf. The only difference was the density of the fur.
After checking its status with his soul module he was baffled. How could the first beast he ran into be high tier two. That's equivalent to someone at the peak of the expert stage.
Beast are usually stronger than their average human counterparts, but the difference is made up with techniques, bloodlines and other talents that humans and humanoids possess.
Horo's black light faded, luckily he had this innate passive ability, as well as his body cultivation otherwise he could have been split in half by that basic charge that shouldn't even be considered an attack.
Horo felt his blood rushing as he began to get excited even though he felt slight fear.
He wanted to use this opportunity to test his limits.
He had been traveling for a couple of hours so it was completely dark now. This was perfect for him since he would be battling an opponent that was much stronger than him level wise, he still held the advantage since he excelled in the night in his previous life and this one.
He immediately dashed to the side using shadow steps then shadow blend to hide in the shadows of the trees. The beast happened to be much faster than he thought since it was a large creature that was superior in the strength and durability categories.
As the creature rushed to where it thought it could sense him, he suddenly appeared above it and performed a front flip downward kick while activating a new skill [Paralyzing Strike] and [Living Weapon]. Other skills activated passively like black light and double impact, he supplied the skills with spirit mana giving them a boost in power and coated his leg in negative energy.
He moved discretely and fast enough to land the blow. He felt the creature's skull cave in, as its head sunk into the ground.
He immediately jumped back a couple of meters after landing the blow to see the how much damage he inflicted.
Yet even after all of that the creature just screeched, well roared, or whatever that sound was then returned to its feet.
Horo let out a long breath and sigh as he prepared for a long, arduous battle. L
