Enemies Are All Nourishment for My Fungi

Chapter 390: Second Meeting with the Upper Levels (3)

"So, based on what you're saying, is there some special substance in the soil? Is that why our crop seeds are able to germinate?" The secretary was full of questions, but fortunately, he was talking to himself without expecting an answer.

"Ms. Ye Nai, besides corn, have you planted any other staple crops?" The secretary of Vice Minister Su asked immediately.

"No, I was busy with land reclamation earlier. I only started serious planting with this year's spring sowing. There's not much farmland, and I was also busy, so I didn't have time to conduct planting experiments." Ye Nai shook her head.

"Take us to have a look. The next meeting will most likely involve an expert group." Vice Minister Cheng from the Logistics Department was getting a bit impatient and was eager to see what the farmland looked like.

"Do I have to continue staying in the military camp? It's kind of boring."

"Hang in there for a few more days. Once the expert group's opinion comes in, we'll relocate you. By then, it will be a good time to test your superpower, and for now, the military camp is the safest place."

"Alright. Shall we go now?"

"Can I bring my tea cup?"

"Of course you can."

So, everyone held their tea cups in their hands, and Ye Nai packed up the awning, tables, chairs, and tea bar cart.

As soon as the stuff disappeared, the dazzling sunlight shone down directly, causing everyone to squint.

Then, in the next second, they saw a Transmission Port open up in front of them.

Ye Nai was the first to step through.

Everyone followed one after the other, in the order they had come in.

This time, the landing spot was chosen in the large field planted with corn and soybeans. To avoid letting them see the few kilometers away where some former Guizhou families were developing land, Ye Nai specifically placed the Transmission Port at the other end of the farmland.

Earlier, after completing the harvest, Ye Nai had re-tilled the land; the remaining stubble was turned into the soil, and the fungus quickly decomposed the organic matter, leaving only inorganic material.

"Wow, this land is plowed really well. Can you actually till the land right after harvesting?" someone exclaimed, full of admiration.

"Yes, after sun-drying for two days, the land was tilled. Taking advantage of the high temperature in the East Ridge Secret Realm, I sun-dried and maintained the land to prepare for crop rotation next year," Ye Nai explained.

"When our agricultural experts see such neat farmland left empty for crop rotation, they'll have many thoughts. They might even come up with a new topic on how to make soil that needs crop rotation suitable for continuous cultivation," another person laughed.

"No need for that. The terrain in the East Ridge Secret Realm is a big plain. There's plenty of land, so we have the capital for fallow and crop rotation," Ye Nai waved her hand, looking relaxed.

"Is such a large field only planted with corn?" Vice Minister Cheng from the Logistics Department walked over to Ye Nai.

"Naturally grown, it's just corn and soybeans. Would you like to compare the taste of boiled edamame and cherry tomatoes? I usually cultivate a batch of tomatoes both as vegetables and fruits," Ye Nai said, as she set up the awning and tables and chairs again, and took out two large stainless steel bowls, placing them on the table.

The bowls were filled to the brim with spicy boiled edamame and cleanly washed bunches of cherry tomatoes, the kind sold in clusters at the market, looking very tempting.

Upon taking them out, everyone immediately noticed a faint energy reaction from the edamame, while the cherry tomatoes were normal fruits.

Ye Nai then took out a pack of tissues and a leaf bag serving as a compost bag.

"Does anyone need to wash their hands? The ton bucket is outside," Ye Nai asked with a smile.

The group, just recovering from their astonishment at the food, instinctively put down their tea cups, and following Ye Nai's pointed finger, they saw a tall ton bucket water tower a few meters away from the awning.

"You still have fresh water?" Vice Minister Fan looked surprised, knowing well that most of Ye Nai's timeline was in the Otherworld. How much supplies did she prepare before her departure that they were still usable now?

"Yes, I hoarded water from the water plant before leaving. It's just for me now, and there's still some left," Ye Nai nodded.

"Have all the other supplies run out?" Vice Minister Fan continued to ask.

"Yes, they're used up, and only some disposable items are left. I've worn all my clothes already. Clothes in the Otherworld wear out quickly, so I developed a habit of buying fabric from locals and asking them to make clothes for me," Ye Nai slightly tilted her head, looking a bit helpless.

"Do you have any leftover fabric?" The eyes of the three people from the Logistics Department lit up.

"Yes. What's left, the whole bolts are all there."

"You hoard fabric from the Otherworld too?" someone asked in surprise.

"Of course, I bring it out and sell it when I travel. It's all money," Ye Nai answered matter-of-factly.

"Then you must have accumulated a lot of Otherworld's currencies, too," someone immediately thought of this.

"Yes," Ye Nai nodded repeatedly, "Do you want to exchange money? What's the exchange rate?"

"Take your time chatting; I need to taste how delicious the edamame is. Last time, the only piece of corn given to our Staff Department was so small that I couldn't bear to eat it," Vice Minister Su turned around and walked out of the awning to wash her hands, followed closely by her secretary and staff member.

As she moved, the others couldn't sit still and followed up to wash their hands.

Ye Nai then continued to take out disposable plates, as these disposable items were something she really hoarded a lot originally.

So, when the line of people returned from washing their hands, they saw two paper plates placed beside each of their tea cups.

With that, everyone no longer held back, grabbed some tissue to wipe their hands, picked a bunch of cherry tomatoes which quickly emptied the bowl, and then scooped a big spoonful of boiled edamame. The spicy aroma mixed with the faint smell of energy creating a rich composite fragrance.

However, after tasting the boiled edamame, many of them, stunned by the spice, were left gasping from the heat. Ye Nai's seasoning was indeed on the heavy side.

Originally watching them eat, Ye Nai scratched her face again, stood up, walked over to the other side of the tea bar cart, and brought out a household soy milk machine, placing it on the table along with a large basin of soaking soybeans.

Each soybean looked round and full, clearly of good quality, and the bean aroma naturally mixed with a trace amount of energy scent.

"Would anyone like a cup?" Ye Nai asked.

"Yes, yes, yes please," the crowd responded one after another.

"Is anyone allergic to soy milk?" Ye Nai confirmed again.

"No, no, no," everyone quickly shook their heads.

Camp Commander Lin wanted to help, but Ye Nai told him to rest, and she did it herself. She plugged the soy milk machine's power cable into the outdoor power source for the tea bar cart, scooped the beans into the machine, turned on the power, and placed disposable cups and a sugar jar by the side, waiting patiently.

She also refilled the empty cherry tomato bowl to help everyone counter the spiciness.

Everyone enjoyed eating and drinking, feeling quite content.

The freshly made soy milk was served cup by cup; as it was too hot to drink, some got up to walk along the edge of the field, grabbed a handful of soil to gauge its moisture content, and smelled the earth's scent.

Deputy Chief of Staff Fan Zeyang's staff, while looking around, unsurprisingly caught sight of the tent area and newly developed land a few kilometers away.

Mainly, that area was quite conspicuous in his eyes. The suspected farmland was dark, as if covered with the shade nets commonly used in summer fields.
