The moment they entered the Dorms, Bryce saw the raw hero worship in the eyes of the various male students roaming about. The Dorms started by a large hallway, with various placks and paintings and photos all over the walls. Statues of well, of gods and what he assumed were alumni of Elysian Academy. Students were there, chatting with each other about this or that, but as always when he walked into a room people stared.
He hated it.
"You're the son of Zeus!" One boy said, eyes wide and hands shaking. "The first one born so long, gods you must be... so powerful."
Bryce almost let the praise stand, he had for years on earth but also with his parents... 'Not today.' He turned, gesturing to his brother who looked sort of annoyed, but also pale from fear. "Yeah, Son of Zeus and all that, but have you seen my brother. Xander is my twin, and he's the smartest person I've ever met."
Xander burned bright red, eyes wide but a smile graced his face nonetheless. A Great success in Bryce's mind.
Another boy, tall and robust with a calculating look, the only one not looking at him with that annoying worship, walked over. "He's human, and without destiny." he tipped a head to the side. "He's our roommate, though..." He smiled then, holding out a hand. "Name's Kevin, I'm an oracle. Nice to meet you both."
"Human? Why is he here then?" The first boy muttered.
Bryce turned, not growling like he wanted to but smiling with false kindness. "Zeus, my dad, said he could be here. He nearly died trying to save me, he is more than worthy of this place."
Xander sighed. "I am a blank canvas, who know who or what I will be in my time here."
Kevin seemed to agree. "A valid point, actually. Without ties to fate or blood or nepotism, you could really become anyone. I am getting tired of knowing too much... welcome, both of you." Bryce and Xander both shook his hand, finally. "I can help them, Headmistress?" he told LaVandra.
The woman, who had been oddly silent, offered a graceful smile. "Thank you, Kevin... and to you all, spread the word. Xander is to be treated as any other student, bloodline or not. He could just as easily become as much a legend as Heracles, we have no real idea of his potential. Be sure to remember, the greatest changes can come from any soul eager enough to make them." Turning back to them, she gestured making a wave of blue light dance around her hands, startling the brothers. "I will send your schedules soon. Look for them."
And then she left, leaving the boys at Kevin's side.
Kevin pipped up immediately. "Your roommate is waiting, Aubrey is pretty great." And they followed him off, past a room filled with three televisions, six couches with gray and white pillows, a small kitchen and what looked to be bookshelves. There were two see through doors on the far right, behind the televisions. "Those rooms, they are for studying using the computers here. Unless you already have laptops or something. We do tutoring there as well. The kitchen is just for snacks and breakfast, must meals are in the Dinning Hall, I'll show you that later."
They reached the end of room when Bryce noticed more stares, from the various students. He must have shown his discomfort, as his brother put a hand on his arm.
"I never noticed how much it bugged you."
"It really, really, really does. But I masked it before, no reason for that now."
Xander's eyes had a modicum of peace, one that Bryce never saw before. "I prefer this you, seems more human for lack of a better term."
Sighing low, Bryce nodded. "That it does."
They reached large split hallway at the end of the room, where there were doors interspaced on each side. Kevin waved at them. "On the right is the honor students, on the left is everyone else. You have earn it, the rooms are nicer, bigger, quieter and with their own bathrooms. It is for serious studying, alchemy, advanced magic in generally really, or combat, and college of course.
You both are in room three, on the left side, come on." The room door was green and had a three made of bronze dead center. "I am Junior Dorm Counselor, I watch over everyone here, make sure we all clean up and so on. I forgot to mention that, but you two cannot even go in the other hall. Or in other's rooms, it's meant to stop the fighting and stop theft. Anyway, let's go in."
Three tiny knocks later and the door opened up, revealing for the first time, their dorm mate.
