Elysian Academy- Meager Might

Seeing Aubrey, Seeing More

Slightly short and well built with a naturally receeding medium brown hair line, contrasting his red beard, Aubrey had a charming, mature presence about him. Xander found himself rather pleased at the boy's entire being. He had a nice face, with a broad nose and high cheekbones. His eyes, on the small side, were a soft green flecked with brown. He should have been mildly above average in looks, but it was the raw kindness oozing from his eyes that set him from kind of cute to really something special. He just oozed warmth, peace and a sense of geniality that was hard to feign.

"Finally, I wondered when you'd get here." He told Bryce before he turned to Xander. "I heard we were getting another roommate... you're Xander, right?"

"Uh, yeah, sure." Xander stumbled, trying to maintain some trace of dignity. "Yeah, that's me."

Bryce's amused smile, bordering on smirk, made it clear he was catching onto Xander's issue. "He's my twin, and we were told you were a grandson of Hepheastus... what does that mean? I mean I am new to the Demigod thing."

Aubrey sighed, waving them in. The room ended up being rectangular with four closets on the walls on either side of the door, windows on the opposite side. In each corner was a bed, simple and twin sized. "We were supposed to have a fourth roommate, but since Bryce is so big they were going to-" In a flash of orange light, wrapping and writhing until a single bed seemed to fold into existence where the twin beds were. The bed was thicker, ornate, and actually raised a good six inches higher than the other two. "... that. They were going to do that."

'I really don't want to bitch about special treatment... but we get those crappy looking, uncomfortable beds and he gets that.' Deciding it was a better idea to just suck it up, something he was used to by now, he offered a faux smile. "It would have been funny to see him struggle to lay on one of the other beds."

They all chuckled there, even Bryce.

Only Kevin seemed to notice his displeasure, understanding flooding his eyes... then light seemed to erupt from his pupils and a soft pressure filled Xander's head. 'Some Oracles can read emotions, and minds. You're thoughts are masked, hard to focus on, but that one was so sharp... you really do resent him, the world around you at large really. I would be careful voicing that thought, lest you anger the wrong person. Be sure you never forget the lessons of history, or well mythology...'

He nodded subtly. 'I know myths all too well.'

Kevin recoiled, now clear eyes brimming with shock startling the others. " You're a Seer?"

They all called out. "What?"

Kevin shook his head. "I should have guessed, you were touched by the Divine, and survived. It awakened your brother's latent powers, but for you... it awakened a potential for the sight. It scarred your flesh, but opened doors in your soul." He smiled. "You're a Seer, you heard me AND could respond to my projection in a loud, forceful way."

Bryce actually started to laugh. "AWESOME! I told you, you were special Xander! I wonder what your limits are, like, what can a Seer do that an Oracle can't?"

Kevin nodded. "Seers, their powers are self contained. They are usually awakened by other things, magic of force, but they are from that person. They are not reliant on a god. Your powers are your own, they are a direct tap into the Whispers of the Worlds. My powers come from my bloodline, my ancestors are all Oracles, I can hear what their spirits know. Your powers come from you. A prophet's tap line is a god or a spirit, and are influenced by that... but you, you have the keys to the world, you just need to learn to find the doors and open them up... and figure out what doors you can even unlock. To be honest, in a lot of ways, you really hit the jackpot."

Staggering back, Xander held a hand over his chest. "How do I control it?"

"Focus, meditation and training... but I am kind of worried. You see, the gods tend to curse Seers. Chiron's daughter was turned into a horse, Cassandra was cursed to never be believed, and Phineas was blinded and more. Be very, very careful for what you tell others. Your powers are not inheritely bound, and the gods cannot take them away... you have to be exceedingly strict with your warnings, less you be cursed." His eyes were wide, fearful, worried.

The warning hit home for Xander, lover of all those myths.

"I won't ever forget... so... should I report my apparent talents?" He asked, hesitant.

"I will, don't worry." Kevin told him. "Aubrey, show them to dinner please... classes start tomorrow." And then he was gone, leaving them with a stunned Aubrey.

The Legacy nodded slowly. "That was... interesting... anyway, you're closets already have clothes, and your schedules will probably be here soon. There is no uniform, they don't want you to forget how to blend in back home. Actually, dinner is probably in like ten minutes, let's go, you can sit with me for our first meal."

And then they went off, none ofthem entirely sure of what to say given the change in news.

'I asked to be special but at what cost will it come at? I really do need to be careful about what I wish for.'
