Chapter 10: Marriage proposal

Will

"Brother, you better calm down. Our father won't be happy if he finds out you attacked him before we even checked everything out first. Got it? This is serious and important! So calm down!" For a few moments, Riser had grabbed me by the collar, but no real blows followed.

Despite his teeth grinding fiercely and his desire to destroy the miserable human who kept provoking him, a high-class demon of the nobility.

Sona and Ravel made sure he didn't cross the line.

"You only bark but don't bite, right, little doggy?" I said provoking. He then squeezed harder, his eyes bursting with rage, but Ravel wouldn't let him and simply forced him to back off by pulling him back."Say 'woof woof' for me." I laughed hard.

"You better hope that token is real, otherwise I'll show you who really barks but doesn't bite. Hmph!" He crossed his arms and frowned, not daring to say another word.

I laughed provocatively, but soon a punch came down in my head, silencing me. "Hey!" Sona looked at me piercingly, stopping me from continuing.

Honestly, her gaze said more than a thousand words, all of which terrified me.

"I apologize for this one, he has a very foul mouth and doesn't know when to stop. I hope it doesn't bother you." I frowned at her, what authority did she have to apologize for me?

"Don't worry, I understand. Riser isn't easy to deal with either, after all." Ravel accompanied her speech with a few friendly laughs. They seemed like good friends for a few moments before the Token was placed on the table and seriousness returned.

Ravel and Riser took turns analyzing the stone, trying to ensure its validity in every way possible. Their expressions grew more and more complicated as time went on, and Riser kept snorting, his foot tapping anxiously on the floor.

I have no doubt that if it weren't for the two of them, he would try to kill me and then lie about the token, just to deny me the taste of victory.

"Well?" I asked them both. Ravel was more straightforward and sighed lightly as he calmed his breathing, preparing to begin a calculated speech. "It's real..."

"And what does that mean?" Sona coughed lightly and began a brief explanation on her part.

"You see, this relic belongs to an ancient and powerful family, the Phenex. From the looks of it, it was given many centuries ago as a form of contact, protection, and/or to collect a debt from one of its members. And they are the Phenex." Ravel seemed lost in thought, looking at me somewhat confused, but then seemed to have found some certainty. She soon took over the conversation.

"As Riser himself said, there is a long story that our father told us about this Token, a very long one indeed..." She coughed gently a few times and continued.

"According to the story, a relative many, many generations ago..." She's lying, it was probably her father. "ended up getting hurt by some enemies and was rescued in a village in the countryside, where he met a woman who saved him and introduced him to the people, and he soon fell in love..." Classic story. "With the village."

I frowned at this point, waiting for a clearer explanation, but Ravel seemed to be struggling with herself and some strange thoughts, her face growing redder and redder.

"Apparently, this village in the countryside had lost its men in some previous battles, and the women hadn't been having male children there for many years. This resulted in a very dense population of women with a wide range of ages, from the youngest to the oldest." Wait...

"According to the story, these women were not only extremely beautiful and well-endowed, but they could do all kinds of work day and night tirelessly and unstoppably." I'm speechless...

"Basically, they let him stay in the village until he recovered and even a little longer if he wanted to. They did all the manual labor such as cooking and cleaning and even took care of him personally during that time. He just had to rest and help them with their birth rate problem." You old rascal...

"He doesn't know if he solved it... *cough cough... because they had a lot of difficulty with these issues, even after a long time there… And after he recovered, he left a token behind in case the first woman wanted a reward for it, he was even willing to marry her.He even returned a few times later." She then, unable to contain her nervousness any longer, ended the story and looked at me.

"Basically, it's a debt of life... and a little more... that allowed our clan to continue to exist. You may even be a distant relative. In fact, judging by your appearance, I have no doubt that you are." She looked at me determinedly. My abnormal appearance could easily be explained by this.

A mutation after constant dilution of devil blood.

A genetic reaction.

"So, you can collect your debt now if you want, but your protection and some assistance are already guaranteed by our clan as a sign of respect." We stared at each other in silence for a few moments until Revel gave in and looked away shyly.

I coughed and looked at Sona.

"What's the right way to collect on these things?" I didn't want to be bold with such a heavy issue, I wasn't even a descendant of that village, let alone a long-lost relative of the two.

It had just been a stroke of luck…

Not that I wouldn't let them make up a favorable story for me. I wouldn't ruin their fun.

"Considering the situation, you can ask for a lot, I doubt they'll mind, as Ravel said, it's a debt for saving someone from death... *cough... and still giving him some good moments in the process." She quickly composed herself and continued.

"Since the original proposal was a marriage, you could simply marry Ravel and effectively become a Phenex. You would essentially have to give up your original family name, which might be a bit bad for you, but you would receive a very powerful new one." I made a great effort not to let my jaw drop.

"Or you could just stay away from my sister, but ask for recognition of paternity and still be part of the clan as a lesser member." Riser also offered a suggestion.

"I don't like the lesser part..." I turned to face Ravel, who was still looking at me with shy eyes.

The first option doesn't seem bad…

and it even seemed like the right choice because of the looks on Sona and Riser's faces, and of course, Ravel's shy face.

But why do I feel like something is wrong?
