Duoluo Dalu: Path to Godhood

Chapter 26: Farewell, Su Yuntao

After leaving the academy, the first place Fang Ling went to was the Spirit Hall sub-branch in Nuoding City.

Three years had passed since he last came here.

Looking at the familiar tall domed building in front of him, he recalled Su Yuntao's crucial help during the early stage of his cultivation. A warm feeling still filled his heart.

The gatekeepers hadn't changed, still the same two from when he awakened his spirit three years ago.

Although their single-legged appearance felt vaguely familiar, duty was duty, and they still stopped Fang Ling.

"Hey, kid, this is the Spirit Hall. You can't just wander in."

"Hello, I'm a graduate from Nuoding Academy. I'm here for a spirit master evaluation."

Fang Ling summoned his scythe spirit, and the shining yellow spirit ring immediately caught attention.

The guards' eyes focused, full of envy. "I see. Then go ahead, head to the reception hall on the second floor and look for Master Su Yuntao."

"Thank you." Fang Ling nodded and entered.

Sunlight filtered through crystal windows, casting brilliant beams onto golden murals etched with various spirit symbols.

The golden glow gave the hall a luxurious yet ancient and solemn atmosphere.

Even after three years, Fang Ling still couldn't help but marvel at the grandeur of the domed ceiling.

He ascended to the second floor and gently knocked on the door of the reception hall.

"Come in," came the slightly authoritative voice of a young man.

Fang Ling pushed open the door.

It was a bright office. Behind a large desk sat a dignified young man in a neat Spirit Hall uniform.

The standard three-sword insignia showed he was a Grand Spirit Master-level battle spirit master.

"And you are?" Su Yuntao looked puzzled. He had long forgotten the boy, after all, it was just a casual act of kindness. Who would remember a child with innate level one spirit power?

Fang Ling understood this and didn't mind.

"Master Su Yuntao, I'm here for my spirit master evaluation. And… you once helped me when I lost my leg, do you remember?"

He lifted his left leg slightly to show the prosthetic.

"Lost a leg?" Su Yuntao was momentarily stunned. A flash of recognition passed over his handsome face. "You're that beggar boy from three years ago?"

"What was your innate spirit power level again?"

"One."

"One? You've already become a spirit master in just three years? That's unusually fast."

Su Yuntao was surprised and glad to see his casual help had allowed a hopeless child to climb out of despair.

But this cultivation speed seemed suspicious.

He looked Fang Ling up and down, full of doubt.

"Of course, I worked very hard."

Fang Ling could guess what Su Yuntao was thinking and immediately presented a certificate from the Angel Legion.

"Here. I once defeated a fallen spirit master and encountered members of the Angel Legion's Demon Hunt Unit. They verified everything."

"Seven years old, level six, scythe spirit, defeated a one-ring fallen spirit master?"

Su Yuntao scanned the certificate, his face full of disbelief, his voice shooting up an octave.

He had only heard of the Angel Legion's Demon Hunt Unit, never seen them.

But this golden certificate clearly bore Fang Ling's name, academy, cultivation, time, and location. The special golden ink shimmered under sunlight, making it impossible to fake.

The more Su Yuntao thought, the more outrageous it seemed.

"You...?"

"Ah!"

The two stared at each other for a moment. Su Yuntao felt a sense of satisfaction and couldn't help but sigh emotionally.

"Who would've thought a talent would come from someone I helped so casually!"

He himself had innate level three spirit power, but even then, his cultivation had never advanced this quickly.

He hadn't fought in years and now felt like even fighting someone at the same level would be tough, let alone defeating a stronger one.

That was unthinkable!

Fang Ling smiled brightly.

"Hehe, I remember what you did for me. When I make it big one day, I'll be sure to repay you."

"I didn't help you for any reward. If anything, the fact that you defeated a fallen spirit master is repayment enough."

Su Yuntao shook his head and stood up, kindly patting Fang Ling's shoulder.

"Come with me. I'll handle your spirit master evaluation."

He led Fang Ling down the hallway toward the place where Fang Ling had first awakened his spirit.

Those three towering iron doors were still shut.

This time, he pushed open the one on the left.

Inside was a large room, about 200 square meters.

The giant floor-to-ceiling windows provided ample light.

Five black stones, each the size of a fist, were embedded into the surrounding walls, identical to those used during spirit awakenings.

As soon as Fang Ling entered, he felt a unique sensation.

His spirit power seemed to pulse rhythmically, apparently in resonance with the black stones on the wall.

Su Yuntao moved quickly. He picked up a yellow crystal ball from the table and handed it to Fang Ling.

"Inject your spirit power into it."

Fang Ling nodded and channeled his spirit power into the crystal ball.

It lit up with a dim yellow glow. Not particularly strong, but clearly visible.

"Twelve?" Su Yuntao raised his eyebrows.

Jumping straight to level twelve after obtaining a spirit ring wasn't common.

"I went to get my spirit ring with the headmaster about twenty days ago. I was level eleven back then. Not long after we returned, I broke through."

Fang Ling happily shared his made-up story of how he advanced.

Though not entirely false.

Using attribute points to level up was still cultivation.

His spirit power did increase, after all.

The spirit power granted by his system's panel was pure, condensed, and without flaws, there was no risk of unstable foundations.

As the saying went: "If it comes from the system, it must be top quality."

After receiving his badge and money, Fang Ling once again thanked Su Yuntao. He borrowed a detailed map of Nuoding City's surrounding areas from the Spirit Hall archives, then made his way to the butcher shop.

It was now afternoon.

At this time, the butcher should still have meat left.

When he reached the shop, he saw the man busy at work.

He was humming a tune while helping customers cut meat.

Fang Ling didn't interrupt and simply stood quietly nearby.

When the butcher finished, he finally noticed Fang Ling.

He wiped his sweat, then cleaned the grease off his hands and smiled.

"Fang kid? Back to visit again?"

"Fatty, I'm not here to hang out."

"Huh?" The butcher was confused.

Fang Ling felt a bit emotional and forced a smile.

"I've become a spirit master. I'm leaving Nuoding City for a mid-level spirit master academy."

"What? Where to?" The butcher asked instinctively.

"Silves Kingdom."

That far?

The butcher's mouth dropped open. He had a feeling this day would come, but still didn't expect it so soon.

"Let's go have a big farewell meal with Grandpa Liu and the others?"

"Let's go."

It wasn't a true repayment, but a farewell meal was necessary.

The slaughterhouse was messy and smelly, but it provided the resources that kickstarted Fang Ling's path.

Grandpa Liu and the others had treated him kindly. He couldn't leave without saying goodbye.

"Eat up, everyone, enjoy!"

Fang Ling ordered several banquet tables. They used water instead of wine, celebrating together.

"A toast to Fang kid becoming a spirit master!"

"Cheers!"

"A toast to the birth of a genius!"

"Cheers!"

Fang Ling was already a spirit master, a person far above ordinary folk.

Yet he hadn't forgotten those who had supported him in his time of need.

After the excitement faded, the next morning quietly arrived.

Since he had already left the academy, Fang Ling didn't return there. Instead, he spent the night at Grandpa Liu's house.

He was now sitting on the doorstep, quietly gazing at the sky.

Watching the clouds shift, watching the wind move the clouds, his eyes glimmered.

Grandpa Liu walked over with his smoking pipe and sat beside him.

"You're leaving today?"

"Yeah, it's time." Fang Ling's voice was heavy.

"Take care, Fang Ling. You're going to be someone important in the world of spirit masters."

"You were a beggar, born free. Don't be tied down, just move forward boldly!"

"Haha, of course!"

Fang Ling's voice choked up slightly. At last, the pride of a transmigrator welled up in his heart.

With deep conviction, he made a vow to the world.

"Since I've come to this world, I will become the strongest spirit master!"

"I will stand at the peak of this world!"
