Duoluo Dalu: Path to Godhood

Chapter 24: Testing

Most of the characters were illegible, but those four were enough to trigger a few thoughts in Fang Ling's mind.

Special skill?

He already had one, Battle Maniac LvMAX, which made training skills much more efficient.

So where did this new one come from?

It seemed to have appeared after he absorbed the soul ring. Could it be that he had some undiscovered innate talent?

Or was it brought on by this particular soul ring?

Fang Ling couldn't figure it out, nor could he interfere with the panel changes, so he simply stopped thinking about it.

As always, the answer would become clear with future level-ups.

Everyone else was resting, and Fang Ling was starting to feel a bit tired too.

The Soul Beast Forest had rough conditions, it was impossible to get a good night's sleep.

But the carriage from Notting Academy was high-class, with great shock absorption and sound insulation. The seats were padded, which made him drowsy.

Soon, he drifted into a light sleep.

By the time they returned to the academy, it was already the afternoon of the following day.

Fang Ling was back in Dorm Seven. The place felt different now.

Maybe it was because graduation was near, it gave him a faint sense of nostalgia.

The three years he had spent at Notting Academy had been the most fulfilling since coming to this world.

He studied, slaughtered pigs to earn points, trained in scythe techniques and movement skills.

He also cooked for Xiao Wu and the others.

Every day was packed from dawn till dusk, and in the end, he had laid a solid foundation for the future.

How could Fang Ling not feel emotional?

It was early winter. The weather wasn't freezing, but it was cold enough to need extra layers.

Young soul masters weren't like seasoned ones who could wear summer clothes year-round, even showing off their long white legs in the dead of winter.

They were stronger than ordinary people who couldn't cultivate, but still limited.

Tang San wasn't in Dorm Seven, and Xiao Wu was, as usual, asleep.

She wore a calm smile under her blanket, sleeping soundly.

She was getting lazier by the day.

Rather than being a hundred-thousand-year Soft-Boned Rabbit, she looked more like a hundred-thousand-year pig.

Eat, sleep, repeat.

Rabbits don't hibernate, where did she even pick up this habit?

"Xiao Wu-jie," Fang Ling whispered by her ear.

But without the familiar scent of blood, the rabbit girl seemed a bit out of sorts, twitching her nose on instinct.

Of course, she smelled nothing.

"Dinner's ready!" Fang Ling suddenly shouted.

"Where? Where?"

Xiao Wu sat up in a panic, still groggy.

Seeing who it was, she rubbed her eyes.

"You're back from hunting soul beasts, Fang Ling? What's for dinner today?"

She suddenly paused and asked, "Oh... are you graduating soon?"

"Yeah." Fang Ling nodded gently.

"Still a little time left, though. Once I sort out the intermediate soul master academy stuff, it'll be time to leave."

Xiao Wu remembered what Tang San had told Fang Ling a few days ago. She opened her mouth...

But couldn't find the words to say a proper goodbye.

"Well... happy graduation?"

Fang Ling chuckled. "Thanks."

"So, Xiao Wu-jie, what do you want to eat today?"

"Uh... braised pig's trotters?"

"Sure!"

Ten days slipped by quietly.

As the school year drew to a close, the academy grounds became noticeably emptier.

Only the teachers continued working diligently, and Tang San was still forging metal as usual.

Fang Ling no longer attended classes.

Over those ten days, he trained all day in the grove and finally adapted to his drastically enhanced reflexes.

He also probed around, and through Tang San, managed to get some information from Yu Xiaogang about the usual amplification effects of absorbing a Star-Nosed Mole.

Turns out, his guess had been spot-on: the boost was typically between 10% and 20%.

He told Tang San it gave him a 20% boost.

Telling him it was just 10% would insult Tang San's intelligence, the lie would fall apart quickly.

In reality, though, Fang Ling had gained an unprecedented 30%.

When combined with his special skill, that effect doubled, a whopping 60% boost!

That was three times the standard amount.

His combat power had increased dramatically, not just a little, but a massive leap.

If he encountered a one-ring fallen soul master like he did over a year ago, he could now behead them head-on.

No need to run first, use the environment, and then rely on underhanded egg-smashing sneak attacks to win.

His other special skill, "Digestion Lv2," was also fully tested.

One meal could keep him full for an entire day.

His efficiency in absorbing energy from food had doubled.

Not only could one meal equal three, but Digestion Lv2 also allowed him to gain more energy by eating more food.

He could even eat some strange things, like tree bark, or soil rich in humus.

Uh... don't ask how he tested that.

He didn't go so far as to try anything _worse_.

Digestion Lv2 was a great skill.

In theory, as long as he ate well and had ample energy, his injuries would heal faster too.

But Fang Ling wasn't a masochist, he wasn't going to stab himself just to see how fast he'd recover.

Still, the skill had its downside.

If he didn't burn off the extra energy through training, the surplus would be stored as fat.

In short, he was more prone to gaining weight.

The Star-Nosed Mole's chubby appearance was likely due to this.

It ate a lot and moved little, no wonder it was fat.

But that wasn't a problem. Eating more meant better growth and more effective training.

Gain weight?

Just train it off!

Fang Ling had been very busy these days, running around non-stop.

Aside from gathering ingredients for a final farewell meal, he was also searching for a suitable intermediate academy.

His requirements weren't high.

First, the school had to offer systematic training in melee combat or weapon usage.

His skill-based training had hit a bottleneck. Despite constant practice every day...

Even with the Battle Maniac skill, he wasn't making any progress.

His Scythe Technique and Movement skills remained stuck at Level 1, it felt like all his efforts were wasted.

Normally, not seeing any improvement despite hard work would make anyone feel defeated.

But Fang Ling didn't care, he trained daily, unaffected.

Still, this wasn't sustainable. He needed change.

The breakthrough would surely be found at an intermediate academy.

His second requirement: the city (or nearby cities) had to have a large Soul Arena.

Only with a major arena could he participate in legal life-and-death battles, level up quickly, and evolve his martial soul efficiently.

Yes, his martial soul.

He had 4 points saved up.

In the past few days, he used two, one to raise his level to Soul Master (Level 12), and the other to test the plus icon next to the Martial Soul field.

He hadn't forgotten the panel description:

His scythe martial soul was just a farming tool , not very sharp or durable.

It worked for now, but if he encountered powerful martial souls in the future, like the Soul-Breaking Spear, the Seven-Kill Sword, or the Clear Sky Hammer, it might easily be destroyed.

So, the martial soul had to evolve.

It was critical to figure out how many points were needed for that.

After adding one point, the panel didn't change much, except that a new indicator (10%) appeared.

That made things pretty clear, something would happen once it reached 100%.

But since gaining points wasn't easy, leveling up remained his top priority.

He saved that last point, even though the plus signs next to his soul ring and martial soul were tempting.

He resisted.
