Dungeon Raider System

Chapter 873: The family business Part 3

"Admit it, you forgot about her and you only came for this paper." Said Nika trying to hold her laughter as she waved the incident report filled by the village chief. It would have been easy for him to lie, if not for Nika being with him all day everyday and knowing him like she knew herself. Probably even better.

"I may have gotten a bit sidetracked with all the hunting I've been doing lately," Uriel admitted through gritted teeth. "but we couldn't leave the only evidence that we killed a horror level cryptid behind."

"So, that cute girl is not the person you wanted me to meet? and here I was hoping you would give me grandchildren soon." Dana asked after seemingly appearing from thin air.

"It's not polite to eavesdrop on people," Uriel grunted. "and Alice is just a friend."

"Geez, you're so grumpy. It's really a shame she's not your girlfriend, though, she's really pretty." Dana scoffed.

"She's not even on the top five on the betting pool." Nika butted in.

"They're betting about who becomes his girlfriend?"

"Sure, also, you already met one of his ex girlfriends, Medusa." Nika shared more than Uriel would have liked, but that at least got Dana off of his shoulder and annoy Medusa.

The Pegasus departed in a matter of minutes and they then headed to the megacity of Berlin which was actually the only megacity in all of germany.

Contrary to America where the distance between population nodes was always too large, everything was packed together in Europe which meant that one megacity was able to hold all the population of an entire country such as was Germany's case.

However, just like in Spain, there were also several villages and towns, though that was made possible only for the large amount of holy rank hunters that would sometimes even fight each other for the chance to cull cryptid population.

It worked wonders to keep the wilderness safe as Uriel confirmed during his mostly safe travels throughout Europe, but some of the nastiest and most cunning cryptids remained in hiding no matter how many hunters passed by. Especially if the ones doing the culling were of the holy rank which made them noticeable from a great distance even to beast level cryptids.

Berlin megacity was dedicated mostly to agricultural produce which came as a surprise to Uriel the first time he visited since before the arrival Germany had little farming space at all, but he would later find out that the reason they turned to farming was due to the kind of cryptid that attacked the country.

Rather than leave scorched earth in its wake, the cryptids that destroyed modern cities in germany during the arrival left behind a kind of dirt that resembled bog and was incredible fertile which, after things settled down, the locals exploited to produce food.

From potatoes and wheat to even hops and other specialized crops, the megacity of Berlin produced in vast quantities and were among the top exporters in the world. Rather than having desk jobs, lots of hunters turned to farming and used their traits to make the process even more efficient than any machine could.

After receiving clearance from the city to land in their airport, the Pegasus entered the city's perimeter causing Dana a great deal of anxiety and she stopped pestering Medusa for details about her past relationship with Uriel to rush once more to the landing bay. This time, though, before she managed to utter a single question Uriel was the first one to speak.

"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."

"That was Roosevelt!" Jon appeared, also seemingly out of nowhere though his presence was foretold by the stench of alcohol.

Dana looked around expecting someone to come and greet them, but what happened instead was the crew starting to unload the scrap they got throughout the month they spent hunting and salvaging throughout Europe.

"Quoting Roosevelt is a bit too much when you're just here to shop for groceries." Jon said a bit disappointed.

"What do you mean?" Dana asked.

"Berlin is good for one thing and one thing only, producing food. By the way, if Uriel ever wants to make a stop in Amsterdam you should stop him by all means. After the arrival the place got way worse, or way better depending on your taste..." Jon pondered the last bit out loud.

"And you know this how?" Dana squinted her purple eyes at Jon, but Uriel literally saved Jon's life by cutting that moment short with an explanation.

"Sure, this place is good only for that. But that also means they're hurting for all sorts of materials. Even something as simple as buying scrap from Spain and selling it here would net us a decent profit. But given that we do the salvaging part on our own it's essentially free which multiplies our profits. Rather than trading, we're getting rid of a by product."

"If scrap is the by product, does that mean your product is flux orbs?" Jon asked.

"Not really, no." Uriel said, then as soon as he finished speaking neon lights appeared in the zeppelin in the form of a single word that brought an immense amount of joy to the holy rank hunter.

"A museum!? This ship has a museum!?" Jon stuttered as the cargo bay opened revealing a carefully curated collection of art pieces, old equipment and even some artifacts that had all sorts of power.

"It was always my dream to visit a museum, but that turned out to be a disappointment. It was a big hit, but then I realized my collection was already big enough to make one myself." Uriel could not be any more proud of his achievement and the same feeling extended to Jon, though it also caused the latter a sense of regret. Jon not being a significant part of Uriel's life meant that his achievements were only his'.

"This is something else, seriously." Jon managed to say through his clenched throat.

The Dugeon Raider's arrival had been long announced and there was a huge line of people who wanted to get in already which got Jon confused. A traveling museum was the most ingenious cultural event he could imagine, but culture was never a big hit with the crowds which filled him with questions.

"How did you get so many people to come? Are you forcing them somehow? Also, how come people from the slums can afford to come too?" Jon shot his questions in rapid fire.

"The answer to all of those questions is the same, it's free." Uriel said.

"You really are forcing them," Dana pondered out loud then explained her reasoning. "Jon warned me not to trust you in general, but more specifically when you seemed too generous."

"I would like to get offended by that, but even I have to admit that's a pretty accurate assessment." Uriel said to Jon.

"So, what's the catch?" Jon asked.

"Sometimes, to look at the bigger picture you need to take some distance." Uriel said as he literally took distance from the museum.

After following him, they were able to see the full picture. People made a line that went from the landing zone they rented to outside the airport, but only a bunch of people were allowed to enter the museum at a time. This meant the waiting time was long and that allowed the Dungeon Raiders to sell them snacks and drinks at an exorbitant price, though they also gave free water and synthetic food to those who could not afford.

This meant that pretty much all the slum dwellers in the city wanted to go to Uriel's museum, even if only to make the line and get free food. This served the purpose of making the wait even longer and allow the crew to sell more to those who could afford it. But more importantly, even people who were not particularly interested in the idea of a museum would show up just out of curiosity holding the thought that something so popular must be worth the wait.

"So, you hunt, salvage, trade and have this traveling museum. All while maximizing profit," Dana nodded, then continued. "So, where is the person we're going to meet!?"

"You'll meet her, but first..."

"Ah-ha! So it is a girl!" Dana said excitedly.

"Yes, but you'll have to promise you won't harm her, reap her, curse her, or whatever it is you gods do when you don't like someone."

"Fine, let's get this over with soon." Dana begrudgingly accepted.

"Oh, I don't know if she'll show up. I just heard she was in the city and figured a traveling museum would be the perfect way to lure her in because..." Uriel's words were cut short by the flash of a picture being taken with an old bridge camera from a distance.

Looking at the source, Uriel saw precisely the person he wanted her mother to meet. Emma Sage, the last surviving member of the Sage family.
