Chapter 264 The hunt for entities begin Part 2
On the top of the roof of the tallest building in the city, the Celes tower, Sam scanned the lost city with his all seeing trait. It wasn't strange for hunters to ask for permission to do something like that as traits related to sight weren't that rare and there were several other hunters doing the exact same thing, though among all of them Sam was the only one able to see anything and everything.
His gleaming yellow eyes didn't miss the slightest movement and noe he was a heavenly rank hunter he was skilled enough to focus properly on whatever he wanted, even at that insurmountable distance. Instead of discouraged by his presence, they all looked at him with admiration.
From the minute he acquired his trait, Sam became some sort of minor celebrity, but he didn't act cocky in front of people and always played down his achievements which made him seem like a humble person. Most people in his position would have most likely start dating models or buying expensive things to flaunt their wealth and social standing, but Sam wasn't like that.
He was seen as a very down to earth hunter that raised from anonymity, one that focused on performing the task at hand and saved people in the process.
Of course, the only reason why Sam played down his achievements was so they wouldn't pester him about joining hunting parties because he was deathly afraid of cryptids and he knew the achievements pinned on him were highly exaggerated.
Sam thought back at the memory of the time he saw all the cryptids that lurked in the lost city for the first time and cringed at how afraid he used to be. It could be said that he was now the kind of hunter people thought he was, except if they knew how he conspired against the Celes company and the army he would most likely be shunned by everyone.
"Any luck today, Mister Lightbringer?" Asked one of the hunters that surrounded Sam.
"Nah, I'm getting bored already, I don't know how do you guys do it."
"It's easier with music, but what makes it better is the pay. If I was forced to go hunting I'd probably shit my pants at night."
Most hunters who stood watch from that place were trying to spot big threats like the wandering nightmare Sam saw when he first acquired his trait, though the only thing they could do was to sound the alarm and probably give the citizens a few minutes to evacuate.
But that wasn't what Sam was doing, he was trying to find entity level cryptids for Uriel to hunt, but by the time Uriel reached the location the cryptid was long gone.
As days progressed, Sam was starting to get impatient but it was actually Uriel doing the heavy lifting.
"Sam, can you hear me?"
"Loud and clear." He said while pressing his headphone closer, not just to hear better but also to let everyone know he was busy.
"I'm heading back to the city."
"Can't you wait just a bit longer? I think I'm on to something." Sam said without taking his eyes from a specific part of the lost city. When he started reminiscing about his first experiences as a hunter he subconsciously started to scan the path they followed and realized something. "Hey, you said eclipses are entity level cryptids right?"
"I can only speak about the one I killed." Uriel replied.
"I think it'd be a good Idea to check that place."
"Uhm, no. We know there's probably an eclipse in there, but they are parasitic entities and we don't know who's the one affected.
If it was any other cryptid dealing with it should be easy, but with an eclipse one must consider how strong the host is and also that other cryptids in the vicinity will also come out once it gets dark." Luna spoke from the library with a huge pile of books in front of her. Experience new tales on My Virtual Library Empire
"I know it's dangerous, but I think I can do it. After all, I'm still an ascended and I won't draw too much attention towards me, if things go south I can still hide like we did that time."
"And how did that work for us? Medusa almost died." Luna's tone of voice was usually so plain it was as though she was reading a grocery list, but both Sam and Uriel knew how she felt about it. In spite of her apparent uncaring attitude, she did care about her friends.
"What other options do we have? We're wasting our time, if we keep playing it safe we won't ever get the entity flux orbs."
"I know I'm a failure, but I'm doing my best!" Sam shouted without caring for the presence of all the other hunters.
"Who do you think he's talking to?"
"Probably his boss, that Raider guy must be pretty strict."
Were some of the few comments that those who were eavesdropping let out, but one of the hunters among them wasn't even paying attention to them. His nickname was Tracker and it fitted him perfectly.
His kinetic vision allowed him to notice even the slightest movement at a distance and although he couldn't see what was going on, with the help of some binoculars and sometimes even telescopes, he was able to do his job properly.
Because of his trait worked, most of the things he detected were meaningless movements, but not this time.
"There's a group of hunters running away from a cryptid!" He shouted as he marked the location on his cellphone. He didn't know how many hunters were there, nor did he know their condition, but he was certain they were in trouble.
Sam looked at the map and found the place within seconds, but what he saw left him in shock.
"Head west, ten blocks then two blocks south, you should hurry." Sam whispered.
"On my way." Uriel replied as he started sprinting.
