Chapter 235 Mysterious disappearances on campus Part 2
Uriel arrived fashionably late at the coffee shop, just a few minutes after closing time and found Amy was already waiting for him. She was wearing a skirt, with a white blouse and a red jacket on top that made her look both classy and casual at the same time, the perfect outfit for any occasion, provided it was a date.
"Are you sure you want to wear that? It's going to get sweaty and messy."
"Wha- what? I never thought you'd be so straightforward. I don't dislike it but," She said blushingly. "it'd be my first time and I didn't know what to wear."
"I've done this a couple times and I can assure you, your clothes will end up all dirty and ragged." He said completely unaware of the misunderstood.
"I- I don't know if I'm ready for that level of excitement, maybe we should start slow."
"I did all the slow boring part on my own this evening, now it's time for action."
Amy blushed red hot after her own dirty thoughts were, unwittingly, stoked by Uriel. She didn't know if she was ready to go all in, but at the same time she didn't want to let go of the opportunity. Such awkward thoughts almost lead her to collapse on the spot, but Uriel turned his back on her and started walking.
"Where are you going?"
"Nowhere in particular."
Amy tried to think of anything to make conversation, but Uriel seemed distracted when, in truth, he was extremely focused.
After checking on the forum he found a few things that piqued his interest. The one responsible for the disappearances, at least according to the very few sightings, was a huge creature with silvery fur and a pronounced snout.
The description by itself could mean all sorts of creatures or even traits, but what interested Uriel the most was that it was only spotted whenever there was a full moon and as fate would have it, today was such an occasion.
After walking aimlessly for about an hour, Amy started realizing that she might have misunderstood Uriel's intentions, though she was still embarrassed to ask. Instead, the one who broke the silence was him.

"Can I ask you a personal question?"
"S-sure."
"What can you tell me about your trait?"
"My trait, huh. Don't tell me you're one of those weirdos who get off with animal features because if that's the case..."
"No, I do know someone like that. I would introduce him to you but he's married." Uriel chuckled.
"Why do you ask then?"
"I want to know if your senses become heightened, particularly the smell."
"Many people think that hearing is the strongest sense in the feline species, but the truth is that it is the smell so I guess my smell is stronger than the average ascended. Though, I can't pick up the scent of a particular individual.
For example, I can tell there's a person at a distance, but I won't know who that person is, unless they're wearing perfume." After the long silence, Amy was talking nonstop.
"What about cryptids?"
"That's tricky, there's some I can sometimes sense but most of the time I can only pick up their smell if I've encountered that species before. Otherwise it's too confusing. Am I looking for something in particular?"
"A dog, more like a wolf but also a human."
"Don't tell me..." Amy's eyes widened in shock as she realized that she, unknowingly, had agreed to participate on a hunt. Hunting within city walls was extremely rare because cryptids had to break through the wall in order to enter the city, what's more, all of those events only occurred in the slums.
"Yes, I think it's a werewolf."
"You're messing with me, right? Werewolves don't exist."
"Really? You've seen black dogs, skinwalkers and all sorts of giant creatures, but a lycantrope is too much?"
"It's not that. A big wolf, maybe some sort of chimera or something like that I can believe, but a werewolf implies they're part human."
"So?"
"So you're saying we're not hunting a cryptid, but a person with a shapeshifting trait, someone like me. Tell me, what do you plan on doing to the person if you find them?"
"Kill it."
"It? I take offense in you referring to a person like an animal. I can't believe I agreed to go on a date with a jerk like you, I was even thinking on... nevermind." She stomped her feet. She was always either stern or upbeat and it was the first time Uriel saw her so upset.
"Calm down, I never said it was a person. I think it's a cryptid."
"Inside city walls? That's impossible, there's strong hunters at the walls all year around and breaches are too noticeable to be missed."
"Could you please just try to pick up the scent?" Uriel found himself missing Luna and her enhanced sense of smell. As cold and stubborn as she was, she never acted up during hunts and always performed her tasks without complaints. 'Now that I think about it, she's never shown her trait, maybe it's similar to Amy's and Miss Dragonfang's.' Uriel thoughts were cut short by Amy.
"Why would I help you? You brought me here under false pretenses."
"I did no such thing! You didn't ask, if anything, you didn't even let me explain before agreeing to come. Besides, it's not like I'm asking too much. Think about the victims." Uriel ended up playing the emotional card, he didn't care much about the victims but he knew he 'had to'.
"Fine, but you'll owe me big time!" Amy morphed her body, though the change wasn't noticeable because she just focused on enhancing her sense of smell. She altered the receptors on her nose and also added a Jacobson's organ, a feline organ which allowed her to pick up particles in the air with ease.
She then started smelling the air in short sniffs and it wasn't long until she picked up a familiar scent, but it wasn't quite what she expected.
"This is weird, I think the guy from the coffee shop is nearby."
