Chapter 234 Mysterious disappearances on campus Part 1
Now that Mister Scofield didn't work at the library anymore, Uriel didn't want to spend as much time there as he did in the past. Besides, he had spent so much time of his life reading it was now time to do things he couldn't in the past.
Managing his social media accounts along with his Vlog was a nice distraction, but he also made some time to visit some of his acquaintances. That lead him to inviting Amy, the second year student who helped him when he was lost and didn't know how to approach his professors, out for coffee.
"Hey!" Amy waved her hand at Uriel as soon as she laid eyes on him.
"Hi Amy, hope you don't mind I already ordered." He said casually, something unthinkable for his shy past self.
"Not at all, thanks for inviting me." She took a seat in front of him and they began chatting amicably.
The ambiance of the coffee shop was pleasant and comfortable for a nice conversation, though what Uriel enjoyed the most was trying out different kinds of coffee to figure out which he liked the most. Before meeting Jon he had always preferred tea over coffee in a silly attempt to have something in common with his personal idol, but all that was in the past.
In the table next to them, four students were talking loudly and without realizing it, both Uriel and Amy started paying attention to their conversation.
"I'm telling you, I saw it! It was huge and hairy, the scariest cryptid you could ever imagine!" Continue reading at My Virtual Library Empire
"Pffft, yeah right." His friend scoffed at the flustered student.
"I swear it on the flag, I only escaped because of my trait."
"Stop it, you're scaring the girls."
The group stood up leaving the anxious student all by himself, staring at his coffee without even taking a sip.
"What was all that about?"
"Have you not seen the news? It's been happening for a while now, some students have been going missing. I know you may be thinking that they may have gone to the slums at night, but that's not the case. Most of the disappearances took place on campus."
Uriel wouldn't care much about strangers disappearing, though he did worry something might happen to his friends.
"Any clues on the culprit?"
"That's the strangest part, some people claim it's a cryptid. So far no one has seen anything happen directly, but there's a lot of rumors about a creature being at the crime scene after."
While Amy told him what she knew about the disappearances, Uriel discretely used his phone from inside his trait.
Uriel: Luna, do you want to investigate what's going on with the missing students?
Luna: No.
'That went well.' As expected, Luna refused to take part on the investigation. Maybe if Uriel mentioned the possibility of encountering any rare cryptids she would have been more interested, but lately Luna had been working hard at Lamar's class and she had been pulling a lot of all nighters to keep her grades up.
Since Uriel was already top of his class and none of the combat specializations was related to archaeology in any form, he could afford to spend his time more freely. But that left him with no one to help him.
"Amy, I know this may sound weird and you're free to say no, but tonight..."
"Yes!" She hurriedly replied, cutting him short.
"Nice! Let's meet up here at closing time then."
Now that he had someone to back him up during the investigation, Uriel headed towards his room to investigate the disappearances. Thankfully, all he needed was his phone and wifi to get all the information he needed.
Most of the news were related to the Mapple corporation investing heavily in their city, there were also some news about the Celes company fruitful business and almost buried in the bottom, there were a few articles about the disappearances.
Most of the people missing were students, though there were some staff members and even people completely unrelated to college. The distribution tilted heavily towards the female being the most common, but there were also not few cases of men.
If anything, the only thing all the disappearances had in common was that they happened on campus during night, but other than that there were no leads to follow.
Uriel tried contacting some of the victims' families, but no one replied to his messages. He needed more information, but he didn't know how to proceed. He thought about asking Nika to help him, but she was still busy trying to get funds to win the race against the two other factions.
Fortunately, he reminded that Luna once told him that she always investigated on the forums because the news always kept most of the information a secret. He made an account and logged in, then he typed into the search bar trying different keywords and combinations to find anything that could be of help.
Most threads were about student's opinion about the disappearances and possessed little to no new information. Uriel tried and failed to cross reference some of the information, but it was pointless.
"This is just too unreliable. I need some way to separate the chaff from the wheat, but even if I had that kind of time it's too much work." He muttered while thinking that maybe he shouldn't have asked Amy to help him without making a plan beforehand but then he realized there was a nickname repeating itself over and over.
In most of the threads related to the missing students there was a user asking questions and never provided a theory or his own opinions. Uriel recognized the professional tone in his posts and realized he wasn't the only one who turned to the forums to investigate.
Instead of contacting him, he decided to check on his profile and compile all the information he found but after reading through his posts he couldn't believe the conclusion at which his brain arrived.
"It's a lycantrope!"
