Chapter 27: DSMW [27]
[Kaima Seth, LP: 3600 → 1800]
Kaima's Life Points plummeted, falling below half.
Irene and Aisha exchanged stunned glances, eyes wide with surprise.
"No way—Kevin's actually got the upper hand?"
"He might do it. Kevin might actually win!"
This forceful Special Summon of Red-Eyes Black Dragon via Ancient Rules was proof of Kevin's growth—earned through defeat and struggle.
"Turn end!"
Having seized the initiative, Kevin ended his turn.
"How's that?!" he shouted, pointing forward. "If this were a 2000 LP Duel, I'd have already won. Brother—can't you admit it now?!"
"Hmph." Kaima merely narrowed her long lashes and snorted coldly.
"First off, this isn't a 2000 LP Duel. Second, why would you ever assume that winning under a 2000 LP format would mean you could beat me?"
Kaima drew a card from the Elves' Eyes.
With barely a glance at it, she made a move that stunned the entire arena.
Shwip—!
Kaima tossed her entire hand into the air. Five cards fluttered like scattered petals before hitting the ground.
Then she turned around and walked away from the Duel Arena.
"What are you doing? Trying to run?!" Kevin called out.
"Run? Don't be absurd. The Duel's already over. I only needed one card to defeat you."
Without looking back, Kaima left only her silver coat and a trail of stunned silence.
At that moment, the face-down card she had set earlier flipped open.
As a Quick-Play Spell bearing three white dragons on its artwork activated, the entire Duel Arena shook violently.
[Rage with Eyes of Blue]
A Quick-Play Spell exclusively for Blue-Eyes White Dragon.
No one but Kaima knew its exact effect.
But the glittering prismatic finish of the card's surface confirmed it—a high-tier A-rank Spell Card.
Crafting it required 400 Magic Points. Supporting the legendary Blue-Eyes, this card could only be terrifying.
[The turn this card is activated, you cannot Summon or Special Summon monsters except "Blue-Eyes White Dragon".
Banish this card, and as many cards as possible from your hand, field, and GY, face-down, and if you do, Special Summon up to 3 copies of "Blue-Eyes White Dragon" from your Deck.]
At the cost of banishing all her cards face-down, Kaima could summon as many Blue-Eyes from the Deck as possible.
Now it was clear why she discarded her entire hand just moments ago.
Those five cards were already removed from the Duel, face-down.
In their place came the legend of the White Dragon—an imperial presence that utterly eclipsed the Black Dragon.
"This is what a true monster looks like! Triple summon—Blue-Eyes White Dragon!"
[Blue-Eyes White Dragon] Level 8│LIGHT│Dragon│3000 ATK (x3)
Three White Dragons soared above, their destructive might capable of crushing time and space itself. The Red-Eyes Black Dragon that had ruled the previous turn was now completely outclassed.
Aisha gasped. "Whoa whoa whoa—Kaima's got three Blue-Eyes?! I thought, like Kevin, she only had one!"
After all, the rumor Aisha had heard was that Kevin's brother—the Seth heir—had summoned a Blue-Eyes White Dragon during the first-year midterm.
But Aisha only knew the beginning of the story.
As one of Fusion Academy's Twin Pillars, Kaima Seth had summoned her second Blue-Eyes during the first-year finals.
And just last week, in the second-year midterms, she summoned the third.
Three times she had fully mastered the academy's advanced summoning rituals—Kaima had summoned all three Blue-Eyes.
Combined with her crafted A-rank Spell [Rage with Eyes of Blue], Kaima Seth's current power level was no longer in the same dimension as the rest of the academy.
Even against her own brother—the first-year No.1 Duelist, wielder of the Red-Eyes—Kaima saw no difference.
Just as she had declared, to defeat Kevin, all she needed was one card.
In fact, if she had wanted to, Kaima could have summoned all three Blue-Eyes on her first turn.
If she had, Kevin wouldn't have even touched her LP.
"The struggle ends here, my foolish brother."
Still turned away, Kaima raised her hand and snapped her fingers. A crisp signal to the three roaring dragons behind her.
"Shatter that simple, childish dream—Blue-Eyes White Dragon. Burst Stream of Destruction!"
The trio of dragons obeyed. Their monstrous jaws opened wide as they charged up a blast of pure, devastating light energy.
"Triple volley!!!"
BOOM. BOOM. BOOM!
Three Burst Streams of Destruction bombarded the field in sequence—obliterating Red-Eyes Black Dragon, Dunames Dark Witch, and Kevin himself.
[Kevin, LP: 4000 → 3400 → 2200]
"AAAAAAGHHHH—!"
[Kevin, LP: 2200 → 0]
The legendary clash between Black Dragon and White Dragon ended with Blue-Eyes' overwhelming victory.
After this, it would be hard to ever place the two on equal footing again—the gap was simply too vast.
"Oof, Kevin got wrecked." Irene winced sympathetically at the field.
Having taken three consecutive blasts of white-hot destruction, Kevin knelt on one knee. Wisps of smoke rose from his singed uniform.
Why? He had tried so hard… yet he still couldn't even touch her.
Watching Kaima walk away with cold indifference, Kevin was struck by a despair deeper than he'd ever known.
He had believed that coming to this academy might change something.
But now it seemed he hadn't changed a thing.
"Kevin…" In that moment, Aisha understood his feelings more than anyone.
She could relate.
She'd always assumed that someone like Kevin Seth—the elite son of a duke—was nothing like her, the dropout from a fallen family.
That said, every family had its silent burdens. Even the top student, Kevin, carried pain just like hers.
No matter how hard you try, there's no reward. Like Miles said… wandering alone on a boundless sea of uncertainty.
