Dropped into Naruto, Breaking the World Apart

Chapter 134: Chapter 21: Time Travel

Time Travelers.

Tsunade and the demon both heard that term loud and clear.

When it comes to "transmigrators," they usually fall into two categories:

① Those who cross over into another world.

② Those who travel to the past or future of their current world.

The former is more about spatial displacement, the latter, temporal.

Shizune appeared to be the latter type.

Tsunade glanced at Itō Hidenaka. Her expression suddenly darkened. Shizune had just revealed a massive secret, and he didn't stop her. As someone now in the know, would they silence her to tie up loose ends?

She instinctively looked at the demon, hoping her fellow countryman could back her up here.

The demon did not disappoint.

Shizune and Itō Hidenaka, mid-conversation, suddenly sensed something was off. Their bodies began to blur, fading from reality as if being disconnected from the world. Tsunade experienced the same thing. Her heart was in chaos, but outwardly, she remained calm as a monk in meditation.

At first, Itō Hidenaka stayed composed, looking at the demon with a smirk that wasn't quite a smile.

"I'd advise you to stop while you can. I may not be a GM, but my authority isn't far off…"

Before he could finish, his expression shifted. His power was gone.

He'd become an ordinary person. The recall command he'd secretly issued had completely failed.

Despite the fear creeping in, his gaze toward the demon grew even more feverish—tinged with excitement.

A rare specimen, indeed~

"I'll ask. You answer," the demon said gently.

None of the three believed for a second that his tone was truly gentle.

Tsunade remained relatively composed. She figured she and the demon were on the same side. Itō Hidenaka had good mental discipline. Only Shizune was visibly nervous, nodding hastily the moment the demon spoke. Though she came from wealth, she wasn't stupid. When you're kidnapped, mouthing off is the fastest route to disaster.

The demon's first question was for Itō Hidenaka:

"Your identity?"

Itō replied, "I'm a historical researcher."

Tsunade's jaw dropped.

"Doesn't seem like it at all. I heard everything you two just said. What kind of historian calls someone a 'client'?"

Shizune interjected, "I can vouch for him. He's not lying. He really does research history."

There was a slight sneer in her voice, whether she realized it or not. With her level of intelligence, she couldn't fathom why anyone would waste their time on history.

There were plenty of real-world problems in the now. The future was uncertain and fast approaching. Why bother digging into primitive societies from tens of thousands of years ago? If it weren't on the exam, she wouldn't even bother skimming recent history. Ancient history? Forget it.

Shizune's attitude toward historians wasn't unique. Plenty of people scoffed at so-called academic experts. "Learn from the past," "Draw lessons from history"—all nonsense. Society moves forward. Science and civilization evolve. But human nature? That never changes.

Shizune, being somewhat well-connected, had seen behind the curtain. Many so-called scholars spent most of their time buried in old records. If they were lucky, they'd go dig up a grave somewhere and write a paper about it. Aside from milking research funds, they were essentially useless.

To be fair, Itō Hidenaka was the real deal. He wasn't scamming for grants. He had just found… a more profitable angle.

"Time travel pays quite well," he said frankly. "It more than makes up for the lack of research funding. Rich kids have more money than they know what to do with. Why not let them support the noble cause of academic research? They get a thrill, I get the funding. It's a win-win."

Even NASA lets billionaires go on space vacations these days.

Shizune was just another rich girl who went back in time for fun. But unlike most transmigrated heroines, she wasn't there to fall in love or build some over-the-top harem. Her goal was to conquer kingdoms, hold power in her grasp, ascend to immortality, and be revered as a deity.

She flicked some dust off her hair, then turned to the demon and Tsunade.

"I have pretty high moral standards, actually. I'm not like those other time travelers who mess around with ancient people's lives. You know—building harems, breaking up couples, forcibly pairing others—it's disturbingly common."

"I just want to experience what it's like to become immortal and be worshipped. That's all!"

Shizune was now calm and composed, articulating herself like a sage. A far cry from the raging banshee she had been minutes ago.

Tsunade nodded in agreement.

"If you travel to the past, where there are no familiar laws, no friends, no nation you belong to… you're relying entirely on your own self-discipline. It's way too easy for your moral compass to slip."

To a time traveler, the people around them were just "ancient folk," "foreigners," or "NPCs." It was hard to see them as equals. Killing them barely registered. Toying with their fates? Just another Tuesday.

Itō Hidenaka gave an awkward laugh.

"Relax, we do put certain restrictions on time travelers. Besides, there are surveillance systems everywhere. Most people wouldn't dare do anything outrageous under all that scrutiny."

"You said most people," Shizune immediately shot back. "There's always some lunatic out there."

Historical figures had their own fanatics and haters. The things those people did were often beyond comprehension.

Shizune recalled how live-action "films" starring actual historical figures had once gone viral. Someone—God knows who—forced ancient people to star in full-blown adult films, filmed in high definition, and sold for profit.

Of course, no one would dare target famous heroes. But notorious figures like Uchiha Madara or Shimura Danzō? Fair game. No matter how brutal the content, there were always people cheering it on.

Protests came in waves from those who cared about basic decency, but sales kept rising.

Tsunade's expression darkened slightly as she listened. She thought of her own experience starring in some infamous R18 fan fantasies.

"You can actually travel to the past? The ninja world has developed to that extent? That's… pretty amazing."

She used to think ninjutsu was just fireballs and flashy eyes. But time travel? That was on a whole other level.

Then again, maybe it wasn't so far-fetched. Even Boruto had tech to travel through space-time. A few hundred years down the line, chakra-based science might evolve into something completely absurd.

As the conversation went on, things became strangely harmonious. Gossip had that magical power—it could temporarily make people forget their differences.

Itō Hidenaka asked casually, "Almost forgot—you two are transmigrators. What world did you come from? Dragon Ball? One Piece?"

At that, Shizune was visibly shaken.

"Transmigrators from another world? No wonder you broke through my defense!"
